Several repairs for sensor labor: check and advise the check engine light is on and the vehicle wants to stall when accelerating. Vehicle loses engine power but has not stalled completely (low/reverse solenoid circuit. Test and replaced transmission solenoid assembly; cost: $819. 65, prior to that $1200. 00, $546. 00. Son was driving vehicle, turned on front a/c noticed it was not working but the back a/c was functioning, turned off front a/c. After he had turned off the a/c noticed smoke and fire through vent - pulled into a parking lot , ran into walgreen's to get water to put out fire, went back in a 2nd time bought more water by then car was in flames - fire department called by store manager when they arrived they were able to put fire out - car interior completely destroyed - windows, front & back windshields all gone - thankfully son is okay. Vehicle had approximately 119,500.
Ignition cuts out while driving even at freeway speeds. Dodge dealer had it happen while driving with computer hooked up and couldn't fix it.
Durango stalls without warning while driving. Starts back up. No check engine light comes on. Rpm's rev up and down while idiling. Had computer flashed, but that didn't fix issue. Still stalls.
The vehicle will shut off without any warning. No warning lights or anything, the vehicle just stalls in the middle of traffic, brakes or power steering doesn't work when vehicle shuts down. This can cause a very serious accident or death to myself and others around me. Help! this happened several times and when I take it to the shop they can't find anything wrong with because no error codes come up.
The sunroof shattered today at 0945 while driving 60 miles per hour on i5 southbound at milepost 114. I heard a loud bang and then the glass shattering.
The Durango goes into 4 wheel lock for no apparent reason. The four wheel lock light keeps going on and off and clicking. The auto won't go anywhere untill I shift it back and forth - reverse - forward - when I first try to back it up there is a noice under the hood that sounds like a chain rattling. This has happened several times and I have had to the dealership at least 5 times. They can't seem to find anything wrong with it.
1] engine stalls out during stops, turning, and reversing. 2] igniton will not turn to on position occasionally.
I am constantly having to watch as I fill my tank on this car, because their is no way of nowing when the gas will spill out onto my car. The constant overflow has effected the paint near the gas tank as well as run under the body of this car. This is an issue which no one wants to address but I hope soon it will be resolved. It is a hazard to the owner and those who are near us when we attempt to fill our car.
After buying the vehicle in 2009, it began shutting off when I decelerated for stops or turns. No engine light warning. In 2009, took it to the dealership 4 times. No help. Issues have continued. Took to dealership in 2010 3-4 times for same issue. Seems to shut off more in winter than summer but is very random. In 2011, more exploratory work was completed at dealership. Is there a lemon law? in 2012, I had someone else tinker on it. Still no assistance. The issues are less annoying now and becoming dangerous as it now shuts off at any time, at any speed, in any weather. I've tried new brakes, couple of new batteries, new computer chip, complete visual overall with computer assistance at dealership. Once when check engine light came on, o'reily's computer said that the sensor box had moisture in it. Dealership found no such evidence. All maintenance like oil changes are up-to-date. In 2013 in addition to the shutting off, there is a bumping when the brakes are applied and no one can contribute that issue to anything either! no help. Scared to drive but no $$ get a new one. I feel abandoned with a lemon.
1996 Dodge Durango. I have 2006 Dodge Durango limited 5. 7 liter hemi - I bought used car salesman it in December 2012. In February of 214 we started having a problem with the engine cutting off while driving after reading several different internet forums I discovered the engine failure with my Dodge Durango was a common problem. Like others I have taken it in to our mechanic's because the check engine light had come on. We always got oil changes and regular maintenance done at our mechanic's because we thought they would know the car best and be able to inform us of any important recalls or possible problems. I asked him about the problem, he in turned told me that he knew about the Dodge Durango engine failure problem. He also said Dodge knows about it, but there has been no recall for this problem. I am afraid that someone is going to get killed on the road because the engine turns off at any time. It is a same that Dodge is pulling the same thing as general motors has done. Pleaase lets fix this before someone does get killed. So I am here with my 2006 Dodge Durango parked in my drive just waiting for recall. It is getting closer because yesterday they just recalled the 2005,2006,2007 Jeep because Chrysler said on Tuesday that it was recalling an undisclosed number of older Jeep s. U. V. S to correct an ignition-related stalling problem similar to the deadly flaw that has consumed general motors this year. How also owns Dodge so I know they know about the Dodges problems. At this point my senator richard blumenthal office can not do a thing, because I have not been hurt or killed as of yet. It feels like.
Unfortunately have had problems with the Durango from the first week of purchase in 2006. The current issue and is very scary while driving is the 4 lo light will quickly flash rapidly for several flashes and then stops. The car will hesitate and seems to become engaged in 4 lo all on its own. It also makes a noise when unlocking vehicle that sounds like something under the vehicle is moving. It has be doing this more frequently. Concerned for my safety and there is no warning or control. Also when this occurs the steering is affected. In a parking lot recently I was almost rear ended because I was trying to make a sharp left turn and the vehicle just locked up completely and even when trying to accelerate it would not move. I have had many times taken this vehicle to the dealership for "instrument panel" recalls. It really seems that this car has serious safety concerns as this again seems to be electrical in nature and potentially could be fatal if driving and having complete lose of control. I have been concerned about this and also noted that many other Durango owners have the same problem. I would like for Dodge to be responsible for all of the issues with this vehicle and the repeated recalls and repairs that do not seem to help this vehicle. This is a serious issue and hope that a recall will be done before there are increased accidents or worse due to the poor quality and safety of these vehicles.
Upon first purchasing at a dealership the purchase was as a used vehicle, so no warranty is or was in place. A few months later when filling the tank at a gas station the first incident of propulsion of gasoline forcing out of the tank, first happened. Then a couple of times when trying to start the vehicle the motor would not start. Using an obd to check codes there was no error codes but still ended up clearing it anyways which allowed the vehicle to start (which means its the computer). Now, the front passenger window is down and will not go back up, checked the motor and the motor for the window is fine, but checking the switch it would only unlock door, not allow lock and absolutely no window control at all from either the passenger door switch or driver side switch. When looking at the switches turns out that the circuit boards are not soldered. The only way to get any of the problems fixed for anyone now would be for a recall, because the year being 2014 no warranty will cover any problems that I or anyone else is facing!.
Approximately during summer of 2013, upon starting engine, the ignition would "stick" when key was turned forward. Durango would have to be turned off and key taken out of ignition switch to try it again. Then, upon shifting into reverse and backing up, the vehicle would come to an abrupt halt and be immovable for a time, usually until putting into park and re-starting vehicle. This is when the malfunction indicator light came on. We had to have vehicle towed at which time the wheels were locked in place, causing black skid marks from its point of tow to tow truck. The auto shop replaced the emergency brake which was "stuck or locked in position". Malfunction indicator light went off temporarily. It came back on again in August, 2014. Took to auto shop to diagnose. After 677. 74 dollars in repairs, light still remains on.
When filling fuel tank, when tank is full, gas will spill out filler neck. The spilled gas splashes everywhere, and has been on the body below the filler neck enough times that it has caused the paint to lift, and a rust hole to form in the fender. No other rust on vehicle.
Literally every singe time I fill the vehicle up, gasoline erupts from the tank, sprays everywhere, probably sprays a full yard away from the vehicle. The fuel spray has rusted out the fender below the fuel door.
My car at 65 miles on the highway car just turned off. No warning or notice. Car came to a crawl. I was lucky to get to the side of the highway. One there the car lights came on the check engine, red bolt lights and the oil light. After a few minutes I started car and it stalled then started but was a rocky start. I shut it off and restarted. The car worked fine. Then 3 months later the car did the same time. This when I placed it in the shop they said it was the transmission. So $1400 dollars later and 5 days I picked up my car and 3 miles away from shop the car did the same thing again. I took it back they did a test the codes where coming back as a weird codes. They did not have a clear answer so they did a throttle clean. Car worked fine. Next 3 months. I went out of state in June 2013 when my car stopped again my car was left in this state waiting on computer board that was out of stock until August 2013 when I picked up my car they placed the new system in it along with a wireless key. As soon as I crossed state line it stopped again. As you can see these issue are unsolvable or no want to take responsible for issue. I still have issue but I cant express it all in this some amount of time.
Vehicle was purchased used in April of 2012 and the fuel overflow was noticed immediately upon purchase. Seller informed that it was a national problem with all Durango vehicles and there was no fix. In the meantime, the fuel overflows at each refill and has caused me to immediately wash down the area (while fueling) to prevent fire and additional corrosion.
This Durango had spewed gas during fill up ever since purchased 11/2006, so I just tried to be careful when filling. April 2012, I had some rust fixed around the rear wheel area on the gas tank side. Did not really think too much about it at the time. 1/29/14 I had an inlet check valve replaced at the dealership due to notification from Chrysler and they said this could be a safety issue. Thought then that this defect is probably what caused my rust issue but I had had that fixed so did not think anything about it. . . . Until it started to rust again in the same area. This is a without a doubt caused by the faulty inlet check valve. I believe Chrysler intentionally did not notify their clients until the 100,000 mile rust warranty was up. They will not stand behind the resulting damage from the faulty inlet check valve.
Fuel tank overflows during fill up. I just receive a recall on this issue on 2/01/2013. I bought this car new on March of 2006. I don't know when this problem starts but notice the problem and blame the gas station for their pump not working properly. This problem has caused me a lot of problem because of gasoline shooting out of a tank to spill all over me (loss of clothes, shoes and rash on my arm, hand, foot and legs). Now my car where the fuel tanks is located caused the paint to rust ($600 to fix) and my bumper to discolored and because I rotate my tires most of my log nuts($200) has to be replaced. I cannot quantify how much gasoline I loss during that period. I have called them regarding compensation for this matter and was told that they will fix the problem which they did but not compensate me.
Vehicle ran hot on this date, follwing the next day itshowed no problem. For the past 2 year at a stand still for about 5-10 minutes vehicle gage monitor is going up showing signs of running hot. I would imediately shut the engine off for about 1 minute. Then crank back up. The gage would go down back to normal status. If I come to another stop at a stop light it will go up again. Took vehicle to the shop several times to get it checked, accessor finds nothing wrong with it. It's a funny thing winter months my SUV would never run hot. Here in south carolina it is getting hot and the problem has now started again. I have had 3 to 4 incidents with my vehicle running hot 2015 and is sure more are to come. As usual I shut the engine off to make the gage go back to normal. And yes the running hot light does come on. We just don't understand what is going on. I would like to know if there are others having the same problem and what should I do to fix it.
