In the winter of 2020 I had to use my 4wd lock in my Durango. It never come out of 4wd lock. As a former ase technician and auto center manager I have to say Dodge has a mess on their hands. 1st off its ridiculous to stop the flow of technical information to the owners of Chrysler vehicles due to globalization!? I have been working on this vehicle for months as my patience allows. All testing and troubleshooting place the issue back into electrical issues within these Durangos. This is a dangerous problem so many people own older Dodge & Chrysler products affected by this transfer case problem, recall it and get it done! now it has to go to a Chrysler dealer to have the codes cleared by a Dodge scanner. Issue with that is the local Dodge dealer in the village I live is not known for honesty. I took my Durango there when I had issues with security system. I was told it would need a $1000. Computer to start, then maybe another $1000. I took it home put a security module in it, been driving it since. Hold Chrysler accountable, do something for these thousands of people who own nice looking nice running Dodge products they can't drive due to transfer case issues, and its not just one issue, there are several issues & components in that system that are troublesome!!.
While driving the vehicle it will randomly shut off and lock the steering wheel. It has happened on several occasions but luckily I have been am to restart the vehicle and get it out of the road before being hit.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving at different speeds, the vehicle shut off. The check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was pulled to the side and was restarted. The contact also stated that while filling up the fuel tank, the pump clicked off at about half tank without filling up. The contact stated that when she attempted to continue filling up the tank, the nozzle splashed out fuel. The failures recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the haddad Dodge ram dealer (661-241-8095, located at 3000 harris rd, bakersfield, CA 93313) where some unknown recalls, including NHTSA campaign number: 16v352000 (air bags) and NHTSA campaign number: 15v313000 (air bags) were repaired. The contact stated that the technician did not reveal the recall parts that there were replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure recurred and the air bags light illuminated occasionally after the recall repairs. The contact stated that the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not provided. Fe.
Tl - the contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. The contact stated the 4wd will engage intermittently and will not disconnect after she pressed the 4wd button, the check engine and the service 4wd warning indicators illuminated and remained on. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and stated the actuator had failed and it was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000. Jc.
Awd 5. 7 hemi, the 4lo blinking while driving on both highway and city street and when I unlock my doors you could hear something engauging when the vehical was off. The 4lo light flashes and you can hear it switch under the car even when it is off. When, I unlock my doors you can hear it again.
While driving my Durango will just shut off (it doesn't run rough or sputter, it just shuts off) leaving me with no power steering or braking. I will coast to the side of the road, put it in park, then try to start it again. Most times it will start right up and other times it may take 2 - 5 minutes. This will happen about once or twice a month for the past couple of years. Otherwise it runs fine before and after it shuts off on me. One oddity that I notice is that all the gauges seem to work fine except the speedometer drops to 0 even through I am still coasting along. The engine light does not come on during this. This is very dangerous as I have almost hit other cars before since I loose my steering and braking abilities.
Heavy rain when wipers are on vehicle shut off while driving. Wind sheild wipers.
I am experiencing a problem with the engine cutting off in full drive situations, all of sudden my check engine light pops up and that's my pre warning that my truck is getting ready to turn off. It is hesitant sometimes and waits till I am complete stop or sometimes it totally shuts down while driving in traffic. Very scary.
The traction light and service 4wd lights stay on, you can hear the 4wd kicking in and out when the car is sitting the driveway. Dodge acts like they have no idea what is causing this problem. You can google the symptoms and everybody that has a 04 to 06 Dodge is having the same issue. This should be something covered under a recall, there is to many people having the same issues.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 50 mph, the rpms increased to 3,000 as if the vehicle downshifted. The 4lo warning indicator illuminated. The contact continued to drive the vehicle and the "service 4wd warning indicator illuminated as well as the stability control warning indicator. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 151,000.
Durango is shifting into 4 lo by its self. It is trying to shift into 4 lo while driving down the road making the 4 lo light flash and causing a whining sound. If you stop while it is doing this it will shift into 4 lo by its self and you can not make it shift back.
While driving, my vehicle is switching into 4-lock on its own. The light comes on and all wheels start turning together. Has one time made it so it wouldn't move. Had to turn off and restart vehicle. Has happened when I was driving slowly on city street. Happened another time, 4-lock lights flashing and moaning sound of tires moving at same time. Did shut off on its own.
As I braked to park the Durango, the engine abruptly stalled. Not sure why it stalled, but I know there was a problem with the 2004-2005 Durangos where the engine would stall during sharp turns while braking.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. While turning at approximately 5 mph, the all wheel drive failed and the wheels seized. The service all wheel drive warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 112,000. The VIN was unavailable.
My 2006 Durango will shift into four wheel drive automatically without warning. Sometimes this occurs when unlocking the vehicle when not running, using the remote to unlock the door. I feel that this is a life and death safety issue and should be resolved by the manufacturer. I have seem many other complaints of this happening.
My vehicle kicks in and out of 4wd whether it is parked or being drove. The vehicle has done this for the past 2 years and the dealership says they have no idea why this is happening. I know when you look up the issues that I am having online, they are a lot of people having this same issue. Dodge should have to fix this problem, it is should obviously be a recall problem, there customers should not be responsible for this.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. While operating the vehicle, the power train erroneously switched to the 4 wheel drive low position and the traction control and 4 wheel drive sensor lights illuminated. While stuck in the 4 wheel drive position, the vehicle became very difficult to steer and failed to accelerate normally. When refueling the vehicle, fuel would spew out of the filler neck. The cause of the failures was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,000.
After buying the vehicle in 2009, it began shutting off when I decelerated for stops or turns. No engine light warning. In 2009, took it to the dealership 4 times. No help. Issues have continued. Took to dealership in 2010 3-4 times for same issue. Seems to shut off more in winter than summer but is very random. In 2011, more exploratory work was completed at dealership. Is there a lemon law? in 2012, I had someone else tinker on it. Still no assistance. The issues are less annoying now and becoming dangerous as it now shuts off at any time, at any speed, in any weather. I've tried new brakes, couple of new batteries, new computer chip, complete visual overall with computer assistance at dealership. Once when check engine light came on, o'reily's computer said that the sensor box had moisture in it. Dealership found no such evidence. All maintenance like oil changes are up-to-date. In 2013 in addition to the shutting off, there is a bumping when the brakes are applied and no one can contribute that issue to anything either! no help. Scared to drive but no $$ get a new one. I feel abandoned with a lemon.
While driving down the highway, without any warning, my 2006 Dodge Durango stalled out. I still had radio and power steering, so I pulled over to the side of the road. I restarted my Durango, the check engine light was on, but was able to continue without any further issues. The same type of issue happens sporadically, regardless of weather or speed. There are times, after sitting at a light or stop sign, when you press the gas to go the gears are slow to engage and actually start moving. Sometimes the Durango shifts roughly as you accelerate or decelerate. As time has gone on the problem has become more persistent. I finally took my Durango in to our mechanic and he replaced the egr valve and the throttle position sensor. Within 2 weeks of these parts being replaced, my Durango again began stalling out. I did have the Durango stall out twice, back to back, losing all power in the vehicle, including power steering. I managed to get home and called the mechanic. This time he replaced the throttle control module. The Durango is still stalling out and sometimes very slow to engage gears when starting off from a stopped position. This problem was supposedly address in the 2004-2005 models and corrected. I am afraid to drive my Durango as it is not reliable; this is an accident waiting to happen. Clearly the problem has not been fixed.
Unfortunately have had problems with the Durango from the first week of purchase in 2006. The current issue and is very scary while driving is the 4 lo light will quickly flash rapidly for several flashes and then stops. The car will hesitate and seems to become engaged in 4 lo all on its own. It also makes a noise when unlocking vehicle that sounds like something under the vehicle is moving. It has be doing this more frequently. Concerned for my safety and there is no warning or control. Also when this occurs the steering is affected. In a parking lot recently I was almost rear ended because I was trying to make a sharp left turn and the vehicle just locked up completely and even when trying to accelerate it would not move. I have had many times taken this vehicle to the dealership for "instrument panel" recalls. It really seems that this car has serious safety concerns as this again seems to be electrical in nature and potentially could be fatal if driving and having complete lose of control. I have been concerned about this and also noted that many other Durango owners have the same problem. I would like for Dodge to be responsible for all of the issues with this vehicle and the repeated recalls and repairs that do not seem to help this vehicle. This is a serious issue and hope that a recall will be done before there are increased accidents or worse due to the poor quality and safety of these vehicles.
My 2006 Dodge Durango has an innumerable amount of issues like a cracked passenger side exhaust manifold from a bad bolt and electrical problems where the radio and overhead light only work when it feels like it - but the biggest problem is this transmission. This morning I put the car in reverse to leave the driveway and as I shifted to go into drive, the transmission completely locked up. It wouldn't go into drive, reverse or even neutral. The wheels locked up completely like it was stuck in park. The car sat in the road until I could get a tow truck to take it to a certified transmission repair shop. Last week I had taken it to a different certified transmission repair shop to check a transmission code that came up under a general p-007 code when the engine light came on. No transmission codes were present in the big computer in the shop. . . The guy told me the transmission was fine. This morning there was no engine light on at all. Since we bought the truck the transmission and electrical have acted a little flaky but this is dangerous, very dangerous.
As I was exiting a highway, my 2006 Dodge Durango suddenly stalled out. The engine light came on after it stalled. I lost control of steering and was unable to brake. I nearly crashed into the car in front of me, and was barely able to turn the steering wheel enough to run into the curb to stop my vehicle! I was not able to re-start it and had to be towed. While waiting for police to arrive, I was nearly rear-ended multiple times. It was towed to a shop and the mechanic was able to start it up with no problem the next morning. He checked everything, and ran all diagnostic tests - all came back showing no problems. There is clearly a problem - and there are man, many, many complaints about it all over the internet. If I had been on the highway when this happened, I could have been in a very serious accident and could have been killed, or killed someone else, since I lost complete control of the vehicle and was unable to steer or brake. Is it going to take a fatality before this is recalled and fixed?????? I am scared to death to drive it now!.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the instrument panel lighting would flash intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the technician stated that the front control module would need to be replaced. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph when the rpm reading increased and the vehicle became hesitant upon acceleration. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the engine warning light illuminated. The instrument panel lighting also illuminated while the engine was shut off and the vehicle was unoccupied. The fuel and temperature gauge reading began fluctuating, the horn began to sound independently and the exterior lighting illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician reset the check engine light but the light continued to illuminate. The technician stated that the power train module would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure continued after the replacement of the part. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine light. The failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis but they were unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000. Kmj.
My car at 65 miles on the highway car just turned off. No warning or notice. Car came to a crawl. I was lucky to get to the side of the highway. One there the car lights came on the check engine, red bolt lights and the oil light. After a few minutes I started car and it stalled then started but was a rocky start. I shut it off and restarted. The car worked fine. Then 3 months later the car did the same time. This when I placed it in the shop they said it was the transmission. So $1400 dollars later and 5 days I picked up my car and 3 miles away from shop the car did the same thing again. I took it back they did a test the codes where coming back as a weird codes. They did not have a clear answer so they did a throttle clean. Car worked fine. Next 3 months. I went out of state in June 2013 when my car stopped again my car was left in this state waiting on computer board that was out of stock until August 2013 when I picked up my car they placed the new system in it along with a wireless key. As soon as I crossed state line it stopped again. As you can see these issue are unsolvable or no want to take responsible for issue. I still have issue but I cant express it all in this some amount of time.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle restarted as normal. The failure recurred twenty five times. In addition, the vehicle jerked sporadically while driving. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 107,000. Jb.
Exhaust started ticking and upon investigating found 2 rear manifold bolts broken off allowing exhaust fumes to leak into engine compartment. Talked to Dodge dealer and found it is a very common problem and very expensive to repair.
The vehicle started out by shifting on its own when the vehicle would be stopped. Then it began shifting on its own even when it was turned off. It would shift into 4 lo or 4 high totally on its own when stopped. Then from there it started shifting into 4 lo or high while driving and it would sound like somebody had hit the vehicle from behind and it would shove the vehicle forward as though it had been hit but all because it was shifting on its own. I took it to our mechanic a couple of times but it would not repeat itself while he had it and he had not heard of such a thing before, so I continued to drive it. Sometimes it would not reverse without giving it a lot of gas and sometimes it would not turn when I needed it to, perhaps because it was in 4lo or hi. And occasionally it would jump forward with no warning or control making screeching sounds from the tires. Then one day I was sitting in traffic and it shifted itself into 4 lo and thrusted the car forward several feet and luckily I was far enough back from the vehicle in front of me that I didn't hit it. However at that point it would barely drive so I slowly got it off the side of the road and then it would not shift out of 4 lo the entire day, so I had to eventually have it towed to my mechanic. By the time it got there it drove fine again and he could not find the problem. But while parked in his lot, it began to change gears, on its own, and while turned off. He did some research and found that other owners of 2006 Dodge Durangos had reported similar problems and he called to let us know that it was a manufacturers defect that he could not repair it and to file a report on it and that it was extremely unsafe to drive. He said it was shifting itself into other gears whether the vehicle was off or on and to make sure that we left it in park as it could put itself into neutral and still roll even while off. I called the manufacturer who offered no help at this time. This is my only way to work at this time.
