We were traveling thru a reduced speed area on a 4 lane highway at 50 mph when the vehicle went into what is known by me now as a "death wobble". I managed to keep it on the highway and pull off onto the left shoulder. I found the left tie rod had come apart so there was essentially no steering control. Luckily we had to slow down in the area as we were traveling at 70 mph a couple minutes earlier and had traveled thru quite a number of 2 lane construction zones with heavy traffic. Local Dodge dealers said there was no recall but this week I received a recall notice for this very problem on my 2003 Dodge 2500 truck. We know another couple this happened to from our town as well. I incurred a lot of expense over this and luckily there was no injuries but believe this is a wider problem than is realized.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that there was an abnormal noise from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who advised that the tie rods were failing on both the front driver and passenger sides. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted and advised that there was no warranty on the tires. The failure and current mileage was 41,000.
