1 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2025

I was in a blizzard a few days ago on the freeway & got caught in a ditch, but thankfully got out. I wasn’t going that fast & couldn’t due to not being able to see through the snow well so I can drive safely. In order not to crash because there were semi trucks around, I had to whip the steering wheel along with the weight of the car on the snow in order not to crash due to the car being big & it was sliding pretty heavy & somehow a couple things went out of wack after turning my steering wheel. Definitely a scary experience. It is very hard to turn out of no where, as well it’s rare at times when it turns just a little smoothly. Also, once when first pulling off, it makes a consecutive clicking noise coming from or by the tires. When I give it acceleration while turning, as well, it makes that clicking sound. Then there’s just something about the engine or the drive train that sounds off. I’m still learning as I go about fixing what needs to be done.

3 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2021

While driving lights on dash all flash, windshield wipers come on, horn won’t work, windows won’t work, headlights will turn off, speedometer drops to zero. Problem started a year ago. Took it to Dodge and 2 independent auto repair places, with no fix. We were without the car for 4 months while waiting to see if anyone could find a fix-as far as we were told there was none. Car drove fine for a couple of months with some “minor” issues-lights flash speedometer drops- pull over turn car off- everything ok. Today full electric failure! everything stated above happened at once, in addition to feeling like I could not accelerate.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2020

I was driving my car one afternoon after work and all of a sudden all the lights on my dashboard lit up. I turned the car off rested for a minute then restarted it and proceeded to the oil change place to get my car an oil change thinking that would do the trick. Fast forward to Friday off this same week my car all of a sudden stopped working. The car lights blink for a second off the car comes on but otherwise it had not fully started in 2 days.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2019

My 2011 Dodge Durango engine shut off while driving. The first two times it happened exiting the same exit on a right sharp turn at the same part of the turn. The steering wheel locked and I had to force all my weight to turn it and pull off to the shoulder avoiding getting hit from behind and the side. Dodge dealer claimed nothing was wrong but wanted to keep car to investigate. I filed a complaint and opened a case number with Chrysler corporation. There was a recall with first owner for this happening and it was supposively fixed, I believe the problem was not entirely fixed. I avoided that exit thinking I temporarily took care of the problem. Third time my engine shut off while driving was on a left hand turn. No one was behind us so we avoided being rear ended. Car was placed in neutral and manually restarted. I called Chrysler again using same case number from before but I was told theres nothing that can be done because the warranty expired. 4th and 5th time my engine shut off while driving happened today , first was at a stop in traffic, no turn. I press gas and realized my engine was off while electrical stays on, so my air conditioner and radio weren't effected. And last I turned right into a drive way at work, engine turned off, steering wheel locked. I had to place in park and restart my car. There is a defect with this vehicle that Chrysler needs to fix. The first two times happened on a freeway exit. I may not be so lucky next time. This is our family car that my children ride in and Chrysler doesnt want to help with problem. I don't mind pitching in to help problem. I tried trading in to Dodge but didnt have down payment for new one.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2019

This problem has happened multiple times already not everyday but I would say at least 4-5 times a year. We are driving just normal down the highway and vehicle shuts off we have no steering lose all power have to come to a stop and restart vehicle. The most recent time this has happened luckily we were at a stop light and engine just shut off. We have taken it to a mechanic put his scan tool on it nothing came up. Battery is brand new has been tested alternator test good. Mechanic suggested computer problem. This is a safety hazard Dodge needs to look into.

7 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2019

2014 recall on this vehicle 14v-530 p54 was addressed according to Chrysler, but we keep on having the same problem with car shutting off while driving subsequently shutting off power steering assist making steering almost impossible, we have been in real dangerous situations twice now, Chrysler does not further want to address this issue.

8 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2011 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that there was a premature leak due to the power steering lines that had fractured. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the power steering lines needed to be replaced. The dealer (bob brady auto mall, 4025 e boyd rd, decatur, IL 62521, (217) 876-3800) was contacted to order the part. The manufacturer issued one TSB for the eps, but there was no steering recall. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was not available.

9 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2017

When driving my car the alternator failed and started smoking without warning. The car lost all power luckily I was able to cost to safely and get off the road. My problem is I seen a recall for this very issue but my VIN was not in the recall. This is completely unacceptable as my failure was exactly what the recall is for. Not only did my alternator short out and almost catch fire it fried my pcm. Now it sits in the shop and is costing me almost $1500 to fix. How is it ok for them to only recall some cars and mine has the exact same safety recall but my VIN is not covered.

10 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2017

On Thursday, June 8, 2017 I had just exited a major freeway and was coming up to a red light when all of the sudden my a/c started blowing hot air. As I made my left turn to head home all of the lights on my dash came on (saying service park assist, driver seatbelt unbuckled, abs, and many others) as I crossed 3 lanes of traffic to get off the road and in to a parking lot I lost all power to my vehicle. I parked in the parking lot and turned off the vehicle, opened my hood and it was full of smoke and you could smell the electrical burn from a fire. My vehicle was impossible to get loaded on to a tow truck because in the process of getting it into neutral to load, the wipers began going off, along with all of the dash lights and the smoke began again and started to fill the passenger compartment. By the time we got it home to drop it off there was no power to the vehicle at all.

11 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2017

Faulty vehicle 180 amp alternator caused a very dangerous situation for me and my passenger and other vehicles driving behind me that required a sheriff to keep other vehicles from wrecking while trying control the vehicle while driving. The dashboard and all eletrical functions started going haywire all at the same time when driving on a very winding curvy busy back road, lost steering controll, all message center lights flashing and wipers going all at the same time hot air blowing through ac vents, then vehicle abruptly stops while smoking acting as it seemed to be over heated or something burning. Had to manually get doors unlocked to get out of vehicle quickly before another vehicle would hit us. Vehicle key stayed stuck in the ignition and vehicle could not be started or placed in reverse or neutral to push the vehicle to safety to make sure other drivers would not crash where the vehicle abruptly stopped, this happend while vehicle was running with no warning signs prior to happening. How can Dodge only recall 2011 160 amp alternators and not the 2011 180 amp alternators that are clearly putting the customers and others lives in danger for the same issues. This needs to be recalled and repaired. This faulty alternator issue is causing damage to all 2011 Dodge Durango and costing drivers to almost be in serious accidents and lots of money for repairs. When purchasing vehicles we are trusting that they are safe.

12 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2017

While driving, all warning lights suddenly came on dashboard. Vehicle then stopped in the middle of the highway. Something overheated, because I could smell something burning under the hood. I could not get the vehicle to start again or even put it in neutral. I had to call a tow truck. There is a p60 recall for this type vehicle that describes exactly what is going on with mine. The recall as of now is for alternator with 160 amps and I have 180 amps. This too needs to be added to the recall because of safety issues.

13 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2016

The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Durango. While driving 15 mph, the air conditioning blew hot air and the instrument panel lighting went haywire. The vehicle started to lose power and acceleration. The contact pulled over, and turned off and restarted the vehicle. To ensure that the vehicle was fine, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal to allow the engine to rev. Afterwards, the contact was able to drive the vehicle without failure and there were no warning lights illuminated. However, after driving a few miles longer, the power steering and power brakes failed. Shortly after, the vehicle lost all power. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home where it had not been able to start. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.

14 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2016

While on the highway I a check battery light appeared on my dash, I planned on checking into it at the upcoming gas station which was about 3 miles away, as I approached the offramp to the gas station all kinds of check engine lights and abs and you name it started showing in my dash followed by the wipers and next thing you know the car dies out. Lucky for me there was no vehicle in front of me because I could not steer or brake because it was very hard or locked, I managed to pull over just before the gas station and sensed the smell of burned wire, I noticed I was not completely off the road so I tried putting vehicle in neutral but it was locked in park, also my key was stuck in the ignition. Local mechanic changed the battery first and still had the check battery light on so he reccomended a new alternator as well which I bought immediately, 900. 00 later here I sit with new alternator and baterry but still the same problem with vehicle stalling and check battery light on. Dealer says my vehicle is not in the p60 recall even though I have/had the same 160 amp alternator as the recalled vehicles. This is a serious issue which can become deadly if not fixed ASAP. Im sure of one thing, never in my life will me or my family buy a Dodge again.

15 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2016

The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Durango. While driving 40 mph, the instrument panel lights illuminated on and off. The vehicle hesitated to accelerate and, when making left and right turns, the steering seized. The contact coasted over to a main road. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 57,045.

17 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

At random times the engine will just shut down and I have no power steering at all. It has happened over 15 times now generally when I come to a full stop and also when I am taking a right hand turn at slow speeds.

18 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2012

The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Durango. The contact stated when the vehicle reached 70 mph the front end began to shake. During a road force balance test the dealer stated the failure was a characteristic of the vehicle. An independent mechanic performed an alignment which reduced the shaking, but did not correct the problem. The contact stated the problem was due to the all wheel drive feature. The failure mileage was 10,000 and the current mileage was 22,000.

19 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2011

When ignition on, sitting in vehicle listening to fm radio station, overhead rear electric hatch button was pressed and hatch opened. Just after opening rear hatch, passenger door was opened. Immediately after door opened, radio and dome light shut off for 2 seconds and came back on to 530am. A few seconds later, smelled electrical smoke. Minute or two later, saw glowing wire under floor carpet between firewall and front passenger seat. Eventually turned into fire totaling vehicle. In the period approx. 2 months to this, power steering went out for 3-5 seconds 3 times and radio went off for 2-3 seconds about 5 times. Vehicle completely stock, all services performed by dealership.
