36 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2019

The driver headrest active head restraint safety device deployed without warning during normal driving. There was no impact, etc. , that would cause the device to deploy. The device errantly deployed. The headrest came in sharp and sudden contact with the rear of my head while in motion on a city street, not turning. Through online research I noted that this seems to be a common issue.

37 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2018

The passenger headrest active head restraint safety device deployed without warning during normal driving. There was no impact, etc. , that would cause the device to deploy. The device errantly deployed. Had a passenger been in the vehicle this could have resulted in serious injury. The vehicle was in motion on a city street. Through online research I noted that this seems to be a common issue.

38 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2018

As I was driving to my son's football game, my headrest deployed and violently hit me in the back of the head. I hadn't hit anything or a pothole. I lost control of the car momentarily, but thankfully was not around other vehicles and was only going about 30 mph. It sounded like my airbag had deployed, but after looking around to find what happened, I noticed my passenger side headrest was out and so I felt behind my head and sure enough it had deployed as well. I ended up going to the er because of a head injury as I was disoriented and dizzy and had light sensitivity. I have been diagnosed with whiplash and have had headaches everyday since the accident. I am also seeing a chiropractor because my back is all messed up as well.

39 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2018

While stopped with the vehicle in park after just coming off of the interstate at a truck stop, the passenger side active headrest popped. No damage had occurred to the vehicle, no large bumps or curbs were hit. Luckily we were stopped and no injury occurred. Unfortunately this is a huge expense to fix at a dealership (over $700 just for the part plus shop hours making it about a $1000 expense not covered by warranty!) this is a huge safety concern - 1. If we are now in a collision prior to repair will our airbags deploy as this is part of the whole system (and the one is already sprung so could damage occur because of that) 2. If we had been driving and it were to deploy and hit someone it the back of the head it could easily cause an accident causing injury or even death to occupants and to occupants of other vehicles! this could be extremely dangerous!.

40 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2018

While driving at approx. 40 miles per hour, the drivers side head rest exploded causing my head to move slam forward. I though someone had hit me from behind but looked and there was no one there. Pulled over to the side of the road to find the head rest apart. I contacted a local dealer and they asked if I ran into a curb, hit a large bump or was involved in an accident and was sorry to hear that happened. After research on the internet, there are several reports of these headrest exploding randomly on several Dodge models specifically the Durango. My vehicle is a 2014 with 29k miles on it, never in an accident and barely driven.

41 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2018

While the vehicle was parked in a parking lot the driver side head rest airbag deployed. The vehicle was taken to a Chrysler dealership. The dealership confirmed no impact event occurred and the bag just deployed. Dealer also said it was not a warranty covered item and would not replace/repair at not cost. On the day the bag deployed it was a hot sunny day.

42 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2018

Air bag system light on and dealer says wiring harness for airbag needs replacement. Issue is non available and no idea of when they would get it as all are on back order with no get well date.

43 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

Same defect stated by numerous drivers. Air bag system service light illuminating and disabling air bag system intermittently. Dodge dealer says my vehicle is not part of recall. Same air bag system, same failure, but not part of recall p67? occurs while in motion, not in motion, random times. All types of driving.

44 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2017

My wife was driving the vehicle when there was an exploding sound immediately followed by hit to the back of her head. She is currently in a lot of pain from her neck and has a nice headache to accompany it. The vehicle was in motion when the headrest deployed on it own.

45 Air Bag problem

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,900.

46 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2016

The passenger side active headrest restraint mechanism activated while driving down a straight city street. There was no impact/collision involved. Vehicle only had driver at the time so no passenger was injured however the event caused significant driver distraction and could have led to a collision. If a passenger was present, serious head, neck, and/or upper back injury could have occurred. Vehicle was taking to dealership for repairs. Dealership noted that both retaining brackets were broken. Chrysler is paying for the repair. This complaint is for notification to the NHTSA for follow-up investigation to ensure this is not a manufacturing defect and safety issue for other drivers.

50 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2014

I was in a collision that involved a significant amount of damage to the front end of my vehicle with over $11000 in damages and no airbag deployed. I was the only occupant in the vehicle so didn't expect passenger airbag to deploy. I know that there is a recall on other vehicles airbags but did not see my vehicle on the current listing of recalls. I would like to ensure this isn't a recurring issue with this make model vehicle or find information on how to get mine tested.
