On 8/24/19 the alternator failed while driving (in motion!!) and the car stopped in the middle of the road shortly after the battery light came on. The battery had just been replaced new that same day. We could not move the car or restart the vehicle to move it and just purchased used on the 21 August 2019, issue that you can not get the car into neutral to move the car. Or that there is no a secondary power source so that if the power fails you can still operate the gears and move the car out of the way. The care makes a clanking noise like if the gears were not moving and the car jolted forward and just stopped. Really? then couldn't move it thank god it didn't happen on the freeway. Saw that there is a recall on this Durango for the alternator suddenly failing that exactly what happen but there is no record of that being fixed or being an issue on this model why?.
Car alert low voltage came on and then car would not start. When jumping the car, the car would turn off when cables came off. Was told alternator is bad. I googled and found out their was a recall for alternators but not my 2014 model. I believe mine should have been included because the description fits my issue as well and the vehicle is the same year, make and model. Dealership would not honor recall when should the info. On line.
T36 recall for the alternator directly impacts the performance of the powertrain computer model and requires replacement.
I purchased my Dodge Durango brand new in 2014 and never had an issue with it. It is currently in great condition except that I recently took it in for an oil change on 3/9/19. It sat in my driveway until my wife drove it to work the following Monday morning. On her way home from work she started to smell an overwhelming burning electrical smell. I drove it back into the dealership where the oil change took place and they outright lied to me telling me it was a plastic bag burning on the catalytic converter. They could not prove it when I asked them to show me. I scheduled an appointment with another dealership for this Tuesday. So I did some research to see if anyone has had the issue and the internet is full of these vehicles having the same problem. I noticed that in a fe instances the issue was dud to a recall on the alternator. When I entered my VIN number in the NHTSA site, it does not come up as a vehicle that needs the recall completed. Why would my 2014 Dodge Durango be part of that recall? VIN 1c4rdjag2ec438733 and also if this is not the issue why would I and so many others have the issue.
Alternator recall was not completed by Dodge service but was documented that it was changed and later gave issues that could have been very dangerous. Details are in file attached.
For 2 years we had issues with worn inner walls in front & steering shake. We brought it in with extended warranty along with video of noise from self diagnostic. Our concerns were dismissed by dealership & another automotive shop informed me that both front hubs were bad. Called dealership again & same dismissal. We changed both hubs at our own expense and problem fixed. Bushing was making horrendous noise and also dismissed by dealership. Changed that on our own expense and issue solved. Alternator was supposedly changed due to recall by dealership & after inspecting it, we have both agreed that the alternator hasn't been touched. Bolts show no signs of any type of torque and alternator is dusty and dirty as is the rest of the components in engine bay which also lead us to the conclusion. This vehicle was and I believe still is unsafe due to recall concerns and the local dealership absolutely refuses to acknowledge any wrong doing. I will be seeking further action against them and hope this doesn't continue to happen to others.
Alternator is not staying charged. Had to be jumped more than once because I will get somewhere and the car won't start. Mechanic tested and found the alternator is not fully charging. Getting very frustrated that I have a vehicle that is only 3 years old already having problems! if there is a recall why is my VIN number not included???? its apparent that this has been a problem with the make, model and year of my vehicle!.
The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 25 mph, all the warning indicators began flashing. The vehicle was parked, turned off, and would not restart. The vehicle was towed to tire one in grand fork, south dakota where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and drained the battery. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
This is a complaint concerning the length of time it has taken so far to get the alternator recall (NHTSA 14v-634 repaired by our dealership, brewbaker motors in montgomery, al. We received the recall notice shortly after the 1st of the year. We were told for at least 2 months that the parts were on backorder. I called again in may and was told they would be getting both parts in in about 2 weeks. The parts manager did call me around the 1st week in June to set the appointment. We had 2 recalled parts, airbag and the alternator. We took the car in, left it overnight, picked it up the next day and only the airbag part had been replaced. When questioned they said the alternator part was not in (after the service manager said both parts were in), and they would call me when they were in. After not hearing from them I called on 07/23/2015 and was told the part was in but it would be the end of August before they could get to the repair of my car. I do not think this is a reasonable amount of time for a repair that could potentially shut down my vehicle while driving, or start an electrical fire under the hood. What do you think?.
