Dodge Durango rt has developed the evap system failure. After stopping to refuel the gas tank the engine will not restart till after several attempts and even after restarting it idles erratic and sputters even to point of a miss and shuts off. Then it will restart and slowly clear up, and operate normal till the next refuel. I've had it into several repair shops and dealerships only to have to purchase parts and pay for repair and experience the issue again. Considering it's fuel vapor related and could cause a explosive or flash fire event in the dry summer season possibly if the vapors become a large enough volume under the hood or in a closed space.
Fuel pump and wiring issues.
Try to pump gas and it keeps stopping and it takes a literal 30 to 40 minutes to fill the tank. I have read that the capless system can do this.
Fuel filler neck broke off where you fill up gas tank, leaving it unprotected.
Reporting of same issue* intermittent failure to start/stopping occurring again. Fuel pump and tipm was replaced and issue is still occurring about 8 months later. 2011-2013 Durangos had a recall for this issue. I believe the 2014s should be included as well. This is very dangerous and a safety hazard should vehicle stalls and unable to start.
I am having starting issues, combined with stalling when it full power or even partial. I reviewed the recalls that were listed for this era vehicle. And it lines up with the fuel relay or fuse I can't remember which one it was that was happening on similar makes models and this year. I believe this should be involved in that recall, but it's not showing that it is.
Fuel pump relay not working.
Car is having issues periodically when cranking, it will sometimes take 2-3 seconds from push the "start" button until the car cranks over. From talking to my garage and doing additional research on NHTSA, I understand that this was a problem that the 2011-2013 my Durangos were recalled under, however it appears this is a problem for my 2014 at least also. I called the dealer who almost immediately acknowledge the issue but on a look-up on my VIN did state that this had not been recalled yet for the 2014s. I would note the issue more frequently occurs when cold but it's not consistent. Given that there are other complaints on the NHTSA. Gov website and Dodge enthusiast sites for this also, I'd strongly suggest that NHTSA get Chrysler/Dodge/stellantis to issue a formal recall for this ASAP!.
I had significant oil leaks in my driveway for the last few months. I noticed my check engine light was on at 105,000 miles. I took it to a mechanic to get serviced. They replaced transmission fluid (purchased at Dodge dealership) and serviced any other areas. I received the vehicle back and noticed it was still leaking a great amount. I took it back to the mechanic thinking the issue was not solved. The mechanic then advised me that there is an oil leak next to the oil cooler and when parked at an incline, it begins to leak profusely. He said this is very common with Dodge Durango's and reached out to the dealership to inquire about recalls. They indicated there is no current recall. This is very disappointing. I have seldom driven the car since the pandemic and have upkeep the maintenance on the vehicle. I am the second owner and purchased the vehicle in 2016.
Intermittent no start condition/start and shut off at any time which started after vehicle taken to dealer to complete trans cooler condenser/motor mounts/radio replacement. Can happen at cold start or after vehicle has been driven. This has happened 6 times in a course of almost 3 months. Vehicle taken to scott robinson Dodge in torrance, CA 3 times for this issue and they are unable to properly diagnose and repair. Had me replace battery and starter. Condition still exists. Dealer is playing guessing games with the repairs needed for my vehicle. I asked dealer to check fuses and wires to tipm. I believe my vehicle is being affected by the NHTSA campaign number: 19v813000 and others which affected 2011-2013 Durangos. Other 2014 Durango owners have complained of a similar experience. A random no start/stall condition is very concerning since that increases my chances of a stall, crash and being stranded. Multiple times I have had my children in the car scared because the vehicle will not start. If the dealer is unable to diagnose and complete repairs, then who can?? I have young children and this is my only mode of transportation. I am without a vehicle and no loaner given by the dealer. If it weren't for covid, I'd really be out of luck with no other means of transportation. Chrysler needs review and expand the current recalls to include 2014 models or maybe a new issue needs to be identified and brought to light. Vehicle issue started 09/05/20 and has continued since. SUV taken to dealer 10/09/20, 10/21/20 & 11/04/20 for issue. They also advised on my 10/21/20 visit that my exhaust manifold bolts are broken which is causing a ticking noise at start up. This was never diagnosed at previous visits and noise has been there. I have attached a more comprehensive report.
When coming to a stop at about 5 mph with your foot off the gas pedal and your foot on the brake. The engine is still sending gas and not idling still engaging. If you move the shifter to neutral the car will jump.
On July 8, 2019, from a stop, light acceleration, the vehicle started hesitating as if it was misfiring or not getting fuel, up and down shifting, hard up shifting and the vehicle would not accelerate. The check engine light started flashing maybe 10 times then stayed off. Cut the vehicle off and restarted and ran as if no problems occured. Contacted dealership to scan the vehicle, they found no engine codes stored in the computer and stated to drive it until the check engine light comes on and stays on, then to bring it in for diagnostics.
The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact coasted the vehicle to the shoulder. After attempting three times to restart the vehicle, it finally started and was driven to the contact's residence. The contact stated that the failure began approximately two and a half months ago. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for a diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Durango. While driving 35 mph, the check engine warning and shift to park warning indicators illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle slowed independently and stalled. There was also an abnormal fuel odor present. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after parking the vehicle for ten minutes. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 61,000.
Push the gas petal and wouldn't go anywhere, engine light on. Was stationary.
Vehicle shuts down while on freeway. Dealer was unable to locate problem. It happened again over the next 6 month's several times. New vehicle was at dealership many times. Dodge sent out a corporate machanic saying there was apinch in the fuel line. This happened again a year later, same fix at dealership. And two years later, I am having the same problem, car does not start anyone this time.
Upon leaving the dealership after a brand new car purchase a strong gasoline odor filled the cabin with the a/c or heat turned on. Upon exiting the car a strong gasoline odor was present around the hood and left front fender. The odor has rendered vehicle unusable to transport infant and toddler. Dodge service has had the vehicle for over 2 days with no resolution.
I often attempt to accelerate at slower speeds generally between 20-30mph to pass another vehicle etc. . . The response after pushing the gas is very delayed sometimes as if the vehicle hesitates.
As in another customer report, I also often move over to the left lane to attempt to accelerate to pass another vehicle (in treacherous freeway traffic or eventual oncoming vehicles in two lane traffic- dangerous). . . The response after pushing the gas is very delayed sometimes as if the pedal is stuck. Even when the pedal is pressed completely to to floor, the vehicle does not engage in acceleration for multiple seconds. When the vehicle does engage it reacts to where the pedal is at the time. If the pedal is at the floor it shoots to rmps up very rapidly.
Purchased vehicle 31 December 2013. Actually got vehicle about six days later. On 22 January 2014, I put the vehicle in park at the end of my driveway so I could check the mail. While walking back to the vehicle form the mailbox, the vehicle starting backing up a hill on its own. I had to run next to the vehicle, hanging partially inside the cab, to attempt to shut off vehicle. Vehicle would not shut off. I had to push down emergency brake with my hand in order to get vehicle to stop. Vehicle also has used active braking feature and the active braking alarm has sounded to inform me that I was too close to a vehicle, though there was no vehicle in site (this has happened 3 times). Vehicle randomly starts on it own. Vehicle also remote starts on its own. Sometimes the vehicle states it is not in park when it clearly is in park. Vehicle has went from park to drive on one occasion as well. The vehicle back hatch opened on its own while driving down the highway. My belongings fell out all in road. My husband was driving the vehicle at the time. Vehicle fails to accelerate correctly when I press the gas pedal intermittently, sometimes from a stop but usually from a slow speed. This causes other drivers to come close to rear ending me because I am going slower than the speed of traffic (because my foot is depressing the gas petal but the vehicle is not reacting). Chrysler has sent an inspector to inspect the vehicle, and he found nothing. This vehicle has serious safety issues. I reported them 3 weeks after purchasing vehicle, but Chrysler will not buy back vehicle. They have implemented safety features on the 2015 for some of these exact same issues, yet deny the issues existing.
