Tail Light Switch problems of the 2015 Dodge Durango - part 1

Rear racetrack tail lights keep filling up with water from rain, carwashes and melting snow and now has damaged lighting in one area and it's inevitable that other areas will soon be damaged.

Durango lift gate racetrack taillight is out, entire tail light is blown and brake is not functioning on it nor license plate light.

Tail middle light get water inside when it rains. Now my light is completely out with water inside the light.

Rear tail light (racetrack light) portion burned out. It was improperly sealed and allowed water runoff to collect inside bottom part. This causes the racetrack light to burnout. This is a hazard that if not fixed and tail lights go out while driving, could cause an accident and seriously injure people.

Tail light collects water while in motion on any road or stationary. Lights short out which can be hazardous when driving in the rain or at night.

Rear tail light (racetrack light) was improperly sealed and allows water runoff to collect inside bottom part of racetrack lighting. This causes the racetrack light to burnout and eventually stop working entirely. This is a hazard that if not fixed and tail lights go out while driving, could cause an accident and seriously injure people. This is the most common and worst issue with newer Durango's and because of poor design unknown to purchaser, should not come out of pocket. Most dealerships are charging anywheres from $1000-$1300 to fix. A google search will show this issue with nearly every Durango with �racetrack� lighting and should be fixed before it causes accidents if it hasn't already. Please help us!.

Water has collected in rear tailgate lights which has caused lights to malfunction including license plate lights.

The rear deck lid tail lights fill with water eventually shorting out the lights and impacting the ability for other drivers to see the vehicle from the rear. Over time this may lead to other electrical problems as it is never good to have water accumulating in the tail lights. The backup camera is also shared in this component. This appears to be a known issue that fca Dodge appears to be ignoring. The only solution offered is to replace the component with another which includes the backup camera for $1000.

Exterior tail lights and bar collect water which burns out the leds. No way to replace individual led need to replace the bar which is over $1000. 00. Is a night time hazard since the lights are burnt out and progressively getting worse. Started as small black spot in bottom corner and is now spreading. Spoke to Dodge and it's not covered! started when car had less then 40k miles on it.

The tailgate light gets filled up with water creating a short and burning our led lights in the tail light. This is a known issue and the dealership charges over $1000 for the light and the time spend replacing it. Fcu should pay for the faulty design and replace all the tailgate lights for free.

The liftgate tail light assembly allows water to seep inside, pooling in the lighting assembly. This led to the rear lights shorting out and failing completely. After researching, this is a common problem that Dodge continues to ignore; only offering to install a new assembly for the bargain price of $1200-1600 so that I will be visible from the rear to other drivers on the roadway.

Exterior tail light's interior gets flooded with water every time it rains. There is nothing abnormal about my vehicle, this is the second Dodge Durango I have owned (2015+) with the same exact issue.

The led back tail lights are not properly sealed, so water can leak into them and short out the lights, and cause electrical shortage. Have tried to work with the dealership, and the Chrysler corp. , but since the vehicle is a 2015 model it is out of warranty. I feel this was a bad seal right out of the factory.

Noted reoccurring problem with liftgate tail light. Liftgate taillight will all eat water into the light itself and therefore burned out. Problem occurs on both sides as well. Picture only shows one side.

Driving at night, car passes me and aggressively honked/pointed behind me. Pulled over and noticed my rear lights were completely out. Messed with the light switch to see if it made a difference, it did not. Next day I see water pooled on both sides of the tailgate lighting assembly. Did research and learned to remove bolts to drain water from the assembly. Some functionality returned but right lower side remains out.

The tailgate light on the lift gate collects water when it rains or is being washed. I need to lift the gate to let the excess water drips out. The light is discolored in the lower left and lower right side.

The tailgate lighting is taking in water, because it has filled with water my led lights have gone out on the bottom right portion of the strip. When I took my Durango to the dealership for them to fix 2 recalls I asked if this was a problem they saw a lot, they said that it is a problem that gets brought to them pretty often.

Seal on the center tail light �racetrack lighting� is ineffective. The light fills up with water, does not drain, and stops functioning. Dealer is aware of it being a common problem, but is still charging over $1,200 to repair.

I noticed that there is a crack or opening in the race track light of the Dodge Durango trucks from 2015 and above. I have a Dodge Durango like my wife, my neighbor, and my mothers neighbor. All of us have an opening at the top of our racetrack lights where the light is not completely seal and the opening is enough to allow water to get in and settle into the light. This is an issue as it can cause a shortage in the race track light. For myself it has already accured with mine opening being on the rear passenger side and my wife being on the rear driver side. This is an issue as even my neighbor who has a brand new Durango had this issue. I've only had my vehicle for a year and half and purchased it beyond the 36k warranty. This is a issue in which can cause a shortage of the tail lights, which causes the owner to be responsible for a defective tail light coming from the manufacture. I've seen many compliant and forums of owners dealing with this issue and it has been a leading cause for owners to have to pay over $1,000 to get this issue fixed. I spoke with the dealer and the manufacturer of Dodge in which neither of them can speak on the matter to fix or remedy the issue. This shortage can be a fire and safety hazard as owners driving that have water leaking into their race track light can then end up have the tail lights go out due to an issue of a defective item from the manufacturer in which the owner has no control over this matter and wouldn't think to even look at it until something is actually wrong. The big issue is that I'm shipping my vehicle to germany soon and this is an issue in which I don't want my vehicle unable to be processed due to a defective item from the manufacturer.

Center rear tail light assembly has short on right side. Several led bulbs no longer light up affecting vehicle visibility. There is no visible damage to the lens.

In March of 2019 a policeman in my hometown stopped me and told me my taillight on my 2015 Dodge Durango was out. On further examination the policeman and I discovered that part of my tail light was not lit up and that my tail light has water in it. We can see the moisture and the water line. I took it to the service department where I bought vehicle. They examined my vehicle and told me that it was a bad design and that water was indeed in my taillight. They further told me that the extended warranty that I purchased when I bought vehicle would not cover it because it was water intrusion. They said it would cost $1,300. 00 approx. To replace taillight. Ive been researching for the last 3 weeks and found a forum that had 100's of complaints on 2015 Dodge Durangos that have the same issue that I have. One complaint even stated that while she drove her car she could smell burning . I'm very concerned that this could indeed start a fire. I have my grandchildren with me 75% of the time when I am driving this vehicle that in itself is very distressing for me.

39,000 miles. Left front turn signal with corrosion on bulb causing it not to function. Multiple led bulbs burned out and replaced. Now rear tail light assembly leds burning out. All very early in life of the vehicle.

Rear hatch tail light got water inside of it. Rain water. Poor seal. Now part of light is not working. The dealership quoted approximately $1200. 00 to replace. Another $200. 00 labor. Can't just replace a bulb. Have to replace the whole assembly. I am learning this is a common issue with Durango's that have this light. This is a manufacture flaw with these light assemblies. They should be recalled!.
