The shift column in my 2002 Dodge Durango will not go into gear. I have to giggle it several times to go into drive or reverse.
Pulled out into traffic and vehicle went into "limp mode". Was able to slowly move to the side of the road but almost got hit. This is not the first time this vehicle has done this. This is the third time it has been in the shop for this problem.
I was driving in the pouring rain and all of a sudden my Durango started skipping and had a hesitation when giving the gas then stalled suddenly. Had to pump gas to restart and continued stalling as soon as it restarted. Per shop, 2004-2005 have defective cowl on windshield with huge gap. Water is just pouring onto motor causing misfire. This is a known issue and Dodge refuses to recall. I have contacted my local Dodge dealer who has ordered the part however part has been back ordered for over a month. This is a very dangerous situation. Not only is the vehicle stalling suddenly but once it stalls I lose my power steering and bearly make it to the side of the road. Since this started, I still feel a hesitation/skip in the motor when driving in dry condition. Something needs to be done here. Why isn't Dodge being held responsible for these dangerous issues?.
The bolts used on the manifold are defective and break off into the head of the engine causing damage. Due to this, the manifold is not tight and secure and causes exhaust fumes to be released.
I was driving on the highway at about 55 miles per hour when all of a sudden my vehicle just shut down. No steering or brakes. After waiting about 15 minutes it fires right back up. This has happened numerous times since then when temperatures outside get above 78 degrees. Today it stalled as I was waiting to turn left at a very busy intersection and had to be pushed while cars are still trying to pass and go around me. I had my sister and our 5 kids in the car. This is very dangerous and I have read on different websites numerous complaints of this same thing happening. Somebody could be seriously injured when you lose brakes and steering at high rates of speed.
While driving a burning odor could be detected from inside the cabin. So I pulled over to check the engine and and no immediate problem could be seen. After driving for two blocks I notice that the odor was getting stronger and smoke was coming from the engine. I pulled over once more open the hood. Upon further inspection I notice flame at the fire wall within seconds the whole engine covered in flames.
Vehicle stalls with no check engine light, when slowing or in slow moving traffic sometimes while turning.
2005 Dodge Durango limited, 5. 7l hemi v8 stalls while backing up. First time it happened the truck started right back up immediately. The second time on 11/28/11, it took 3 times to restart the vehicle. This has only happened while in reverse. Apparently this is a common problem with the hemis and there is a TSB #0802404 to "reflash" the engine and update the software. The forums state that this is a fix for some vehicles, but not all. I am scared to be in this car with my kids now-what if we stall on the highway and get into a wreck? please fix this issue! our safety is my number one concern, and should be yours as well, Dodge!.
While at idle or taking off slowly the truck will stall out-I have found if I run my a/c even when its cold out side it does better-but somthing is wrong---even when driving at highway speeds rpms go up and down--even when cruise is on gas milage very bad---feels like somthing holding truck back---not smooth engine driving. No check engine light--no codes .
I just purchased a 2005 Dodge Durango. When you fill the fuel tank it overflows fuel out the filler neck spilling down the side of the vehicle and on the ground.
2005 Dodge Durango 5. 7 liter hemi. On freeway, engine started "pulling" and "missing" and shut off. 75 mph freeway speed, extremely dangerous situation. Had a car load of kids. Was able to put car in neutral, and start the engine (doesnt start immediately). Ran fine for about 50 miles afterwards. Happens about every 50 miles of driving. Has been going on for 6 months. Gives no codes as to what it can be. Cleaned throttle, worked a for about a week, then problem continued today. Its getting harder to get it started once it gives out. Egr replaced ($500. 00), battery (200. 00), spark plugs (150. 00), replaced fuel pump last week (220. 00 with labor). . . I'm basically tired of this!!!!!!! checked Dodge forum and there is a lot of people having the same problem. No accidents have occured as of yet, but whats to say someone isnt going to be killed by this happening! please, please, please look into this problem. I'm all out of ideas, as are the Dodge dealers and mechanics I've dealt with. For your sake, this needs to be taken care of before the lawsuits start coming.
I went out on Sunday morning 8/21/2011 after having had my 2004 Dodge Durango 5. 7l hemi ,that I had parked since Friday. My husband turned the key and there was a click. Tried again and more clicks. Third try was a loud series of clanking and clicking. Had the vehicle hauled to the Dodge dealership in harrison ar. They informed me the motor had blown a rod. Repair would be $5000. 00. I had been by the dealership a month before and inquired about sudden engine dying while driving. My vehicle hass done this seversl times while at any speed with steering loss. Very scary. I have also fulfilled the earlier recall of having the rewiring of all the vehicle. Was very displeased with the service and times it malfunctioned after having the recall serviced. Please inform the proper personel and inform me of further action to take.
I was driving down the road, and the vehicle just shutdown. I check my gauges, and noticed that a "no bus" code was showing, and that the fuel tank indicated there was no fuel. Another driver behind me assisted me in pushing the vehicle out of the road, because the vehicle would not restart. After sitting there for 20 -30 minutes, trying to restart the vehicle, it finally started. The fuel gauge showed almost a full tank of fuel and everything seemed to be fine. Before I could make it home, it shutdown on me again. This is an ongoing problem, my vehicle has shutdown on me six more times, and now it is parked in my driveway. I have been very lucky, and I am not going to push my luck by driving this vehicle. I have heard about problems with the new front suspension on this model Durango, and yes, I replaced the ball joints on my vehicle which would give me a couple more years before having to replace them again. Is Toyota the only auto maker stepping up being responsible for their product? comon man !!!!!!.
While driving the vehicle, it just shuts down. It will shut down while at a stop light and while driving any speed (happened to us while going 55mph). The vehicle shuts down, locking the steering wheel and turning off the brakes. This will happen about once a day, but can be worse. I took it to the dealership and they don't have any answer for me. They are just guessing as to the problem. So far nothing fixed on the vehicle has been the problem. If this problem occurs during a turn or bend in the road (with the steering wheel locked up) there will be an accident. Many people drive this vehicle due to the fact that it can fit the whole family, so when there is an accident it there will most likely be a death/injury.
Passenger entry assist grab bar. This entry assist allows front passenger to place hand inside bar and grip with closed hand to get into the passenger seat. This bar completely broke away from vehicle as passenger attempted to use it to get into the front passenger seat. Dodge dealer states that this is not covered under our warranty. This failure could have been disastrous if passenger had not been able to catch her balance before falling backward on our concrete driveway.
I have been on several site and people who own Dodge Durango are have the same problem. I had the car diagnosed they said it was the O2 sensor and the Durango has 4 so I had them replaced. The problem stopped for about 2 months then started again said its missing because I need a tune up got the tune up still doing it. Then its still bucking shutting off while your driving hesitating when you back up and pull off. So I had it diagnosed again said the coil need to be replaced. Replaced that check engine line still on still bucking shutting off when when your driving hesitating when you back up and pull off. Had it diagnosed again said its the pcm but it can mask itself as the map sensor, tps, crank or cam positioning sensor. Dodge knows this is a ongoing problem and refuses to do anything about because of there shotty workmanship no matter how many times you replace it you still end up have the same problem down the line and its very expensive. Its not right that Dodge or shall we same damien Chrysler want rememdy the problem. The crazy thing is the wiring harness is affected to and the parts alone for that is 1180 pcm 400 and thats used and you have to get it rebuilt which causing a problem because it can still be defective.
I own a 1999 Dodge Durango it started stalling out and stopped running at random times. My wife almost got rearended aat a traffic light. It stalled out on me on railroad tracks. If I get out and wiggle the wires to the ecm/pcm it starts back up. When it stalls out or dies no bus reads on the odometer.
My Dodge Durango 2005, shuts off periodically while driving. This is extremely dangerous when I have to drive this crap with my kids in it. Dodge is aware of this problem and just wants to brush everyone off. Saying they found no evidence of a problem, well we all cant be wrong. I will tell everyone I know not to ever buy a dogge. At least fix this problem Dodge, because right now your reputation is really bad. I am surprised Dodge doesnt have a lawsuite yet. This problem will kill someone.
2005 Dodge Durango stalls while driving without warning. Had the Dodge dealership service center in local area diagnose it, and they reflashed the pcm and gave it a tune-up. There aren't any codes coming up during diagnostics. $400 and an hour later it was still stalling. It stalls on average three times a day without warning, sometimes while stopping or turning. It is extremely dangerous and I don't want my children in the vehicle; however, I need to drive to get to work.
1999 Dodge Durango 5. 9l:, vehicle dies when letting off the accelerator. Have replaced the idle air control valve, cam and crankshaft sensors, computer control relay fuel pump relay and the cap and rotor along with the distrubutor. Still stalls mostley in the afternoons temputre makes no differience. Last time stalled in busy intersection almost got hit by a speeding car.
Engine stalls w/o warning or.
I have a 2005 Dodge Durango when filling up with gas the pump will kick off and gas with shoot out all over.
Gas no longer automatically shuts off. Gas spills out everytime I refuel. I have to guess when I should stop the fueling but sometimes I miscalculate and it all over my shoes and the ground. Fire hazard in the wait.
This has been an ongoing issue with our Durango. The first time it happened was about one month after I bought it used with approx 60k miles on it. It is totally at random. I'm always able to pop it into neutral and start it back up again as if nothing ever happened. The biggest problem with this is not only that the engine totally shuts off(as if that isn't a huge issue initself), but that the power steering/power brakes go out as well making the possibility of an accident a huge issue. It has always had a stutter when driving. After taking it to the dealer, being told they couldn't replicate the problem or pull any codes. In order for them to find the problem I would have to pay them to locate their defect. At this point Dodge needs to resolve this since I am not the only one experiencing this huge safety issue. I urge everyone to also submit this problem to the NHTSA.
When refueling the car fuel would spew from the filler neck just before it was full. Contacted Dodge and they want me to pay $200. 00 to replace the fuel tank. So far I have refused to pay, but I really need to get this fixed, it is a hazard.
2005 Dodge Durango 5. 7 engine stalls @ low speeds. This is twice in 2 months. There has been no accidents. This vehicle was bought used and the carfax report indicated no problems. This vehicle has 85,000 mile. Please help!!!.
Sudden accleration when putting car in gear in drive or reverse on my 2006 Dodge Durango. I had a 2004 Durango that gave me the same problem years ago and when I brought it into the dealer to check it out was told they could find nothing wrong with the car. They said at that time that because the gas pedal and brake are so close together that I probably had my foot on the gas pedal at the same time as I was braking to put the car in gear and that this caused the acclearation. I thought that might be the case until it happened on my 2006 model at least 7 times since I've had it. What is my recourse?.
I have a 03 Dodge Durango with about 98,000 miles. I was taking my child to school and the oil pressure dropped to zero. I had it pulled to a shop. They have pulled the motor, checked it and the oil pump and pick-up tube. Everything looks good. They do not know what is wrong. I have been doing some research and everyone I have spoke to, say this has been a major issue with this motor. There is a lot of complaints on the internet with people in the same situation. We pay a lot of money for these vehicles and I don't know why something cant be done or why they cannot find something wrong. It is hard to continue to make your payments, not being able to drive the vehicle and then being told they don't know what it is but a new motor will be about $5000-$6000. 00. I don't understand and don't know what to do!.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph on normal road conditions. The opposing vehicle informed the driver flames were erupting from the vehicle. The driver pulled over to the side of the road and exited the vehicle. Immediately, the vehicle fully engulfed into flames. The fire department was called to the scene. There were no personal injuries. The vehicle was completely destroyed. The insurance company was notified of the incident. The cause of failure has not been determined at this time. The contact had concern of the safety risk involved. The failure and current mileages were 60,000. Js.
I have owned this vehicle for approximately four years now. It has a persistent and very unsettling problem of stalling for no apparent reason with no corresponding warning lights etc. It just dies and the power steering and brakes fail resulting in significant loss of steering and braking effectiveness. This problem has occurred intermittently with no pattern of origin evident several times over the past few years. On several occasions, it has occurred while pulling out into busy traffic lanes across intersections. I have been able to put it into neutral and immediately restart it to avoid a collision. I have utilized fuel cleaners and changed the spark plugs etc. In a effort to resolve the issue. It happened again today at low speed in a parking lot fortunately. . Just died without warning. I researched this online and found that this is a common engine problem complaint with the Durango. Today, this occurred with over 3/4 tank of fresh fuel in the tank. . Read more...
My 2002 Dodge Durango shuts off while driving, this happens everytime I drive this verhicle, therefore will not take it on any highways or were there is alot of traffic, once it shuts off I have no steering or brakes and have been very close to being in accidents. This is going to kill someone and I hope and pray to god this is not what it is going to take for Dodge to do a recall. It is just totally unbelievable that Dodge would not look into this and risk a lawsuit from somebody being seriously being injured or even killed. I have had my vehicle to a Dodge dealer, to several other mechanics and noone can tell me what the problem is. Please help!!!.
Vehicle is a 2006 Dodge Durango ltd 4wd vehicle's engine dies at low speeds either while turning or braking. Has occurred on multiple occasions. Engine always starts up again after occurrence. When this occurs the engine light will come on and will stay on for a period of time (time has varied from hours to days) but will then go off. The first time this occurred I brought it to a firestone dealership who check the car, checked the error on the computer and turned off the engine light. Since the warning error was not specific nothing more was done. Since that time, it has occurred on at least two more occasions and has nearly caused wrecks because of the problem.
I bought it in March 2008 with approx 75,000 miles. After a couple months it started to get loud and the air wouldn't be as hot when not in motion. Every time you start it up or accelerate it sounds like loud exhaust. I took it in to be read on computer and said it was my clutch fan. I have now purchased three in the past two months and the problem will not go away. I was told today to try buying one that goes in a different direction but no difference. Problem still exists and computer still reads no other problem.
My 99 Durango while driving just looses all power and shuts down I have replaced the battery, air idle processor. The stepper motor and a new alternator. My vehicle still will not stay running, I have children and need to get then to and from school, I feel very unsafe because I do not know when this is going to shut down. I have read alot of other complaints with the same problem with the same year vehicle on auto beef. Com. This is obviously a manufacturer defect and Dodge needs to take responsibility before this ends up in very serious accidents possible death.
Driver's side carpet mat hook broken, and manufacturer (Dodge) doesn't have replacements. This causes mat to get under pedals.
While maneuvering in icy conditions the cruise control because of its design on the steering wheel, inadvertently engaged resulting in a crash. It seems that wearing gloves contributes to the problem.
Because of it's proximity to the steering wheel, the cruise control engaged inadvertently while maneuvering in icy conditions causing the vehicle to spin wildly out of control resulting in a collision.
2005 Dodge Durango loss of steering and braking control with low speed mountain driving. This was a rental SUV in awd. I am an experienced winter driver with 35+ years of no accidents. Day one. . . No problems. Day two. . . Remote driving on two lane plowed centered road. . . Almost hit two elk on the road in the darkness. Day three. . . About 1 inch of new snow with no apparent traction/control problems (checked hard braking/skidding on the road without problems). The road had not been traveled that morning. I was driving about 20 mph looking for elk on the long gradual downhill (nearly flat), with right turn at the bottom of the hill. When I turned the wheel to enter the turn, the vehicle went straight (no load on the front wheels). Tried braking without sensation of abs pulsing and no change to trajectory. We were heading straight into a guardrail with a steep embankment/cliff. Turned the wheel to the right stop and gave it some gas. The Durango began to change heading and slid along the guardrail instead of going through it and over the cliff. The rental agent told me about another 2005 Durango with 4 (executives) men that drove through a guardrail and down a 60' cliff in March 2005. Originally, the agent thought it was speed related, but then began to wonder after my incident. The thing that doesn't make sense is that there was absolutely no warning that I had lost control in a slow moving vehicle. . . There was no stability/control feedback to the driver. If the road was icy under the snow, there was no sensation of it to the driver. If it was entirely the road, wouldn't you expect others to follow you into/through the guardrails? I see a trend. . . At least two 2005 Durango's in one year driving downhill on two lane snow covered roads losing control and going straight into guardrails without warning. I suspect a latent stability and control problem in Durangos.
When I open a single window, the entire truck shakes. The front doors shake enough to see a gap. There is so much cabin pressure it feels as if your head is about to explode. It is impossible to ride with window down. The shaking has caused the front left door to have severe wind noise when windows are closed.
Recall campaign' issued for 2002 Dodge Durango, parts not available.
I was contacted in July by Chrysler who said that my 04 Dodge Durango slt had a "hot bake paint problem. " the female rep. Asked if I had noticed any paint fading or other problems. I told her "no, not yet. " I was instructed to bring the truck back to USA Dodge also known as mack Dodge and return it for another truck. The same lease agreement still in effect, the new truck would have to be msrp to msrp. I asked why they just would not repaint it and put us in a loaner, she said, "sir wouldn't you like a new truck !" I said, "yes !", already having about 5,000 miles I would be starting the mileage clock to zero. Then I asked how do I know that the new truck I pick out won't have the same problem. I was told they would run the VIN to make sure. Well I was not able to find another truck msrp to msrp even after checking a few dealerships. The truck gave us problems in the past, stall, no start, no stored codes etc. They even blamed it on the key fob once. After what's been on the news I am glad they bought me out of the truck. I pray to god that my wife & 3 kids never got hurt and I will pray that no one else does either.
Dodge Durango.
Chrysler used inferior steel in the front brake rotors on 2002 Dodge Durangos causing premature failure and a serious safety hazard. I have the brake rotors for proof. The steel flakes off leaving large pits and causes severe braking problems.
I just had $3000 in transmission work done on my 99 Dodge Durango. Now you don't need to depress brake to shift from park to reverse or drive. I have owned this car nearly 4 years and never noticed this before so I assume something was disconnected during repair. When we call repair shop they say brake shift interlock was not a feature on 99 Durango. I feel this is a huge safety issue that needs to be addressed. It is an accident waiting to happen. What can be done?.
The axle broke while driving at 55 mph and as a result the driver was not able to control the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for analysis. The main bolt attachment to the suspension was replaced because it sheared off.
2001 Dodge Durango, had routine visit to firestone tire to get new tires for the vehicle. The mechanic advised us that the vehicle needed both upper front ball joints, upper control arm remove and replace, control upper one side also lower control arm remove and replace ball joint, lower, both. He advised that on such a new vehicle this is a very uncommon occurence. He said he was unable to get the parts to repair, if he could he gave estimate to us $968. 78 vehicle has not had an accident since its diagnosis.
On 7/26/03 my daughter and I had been driving for aprox. 30 miles and while maintaining a speed of 60-65mph the engine started to "rev" itself and would make sudden back & forth jerk motions. It would jump forward then stall. The brake pedal completely locked and would not move even when I stood on it. While still at aprox. 60 mph I was able to slow and eventually stop the truck by putting it in neutral and coasting as it eventually lost speed and stopped. An extremely dangerous situation (not the first) courtesy of Dodge. In addition I have problems stopping the truck without it slidingwhen I am forced to come to a sudden stop. The truck skids or slides a few feet before it completely stops. This continues even with new tires. This situation almost caused a serious accident involving small children crossing the road.
I purchased a 2002 Dodge Durango slt in may of 2002. When I purchased it I asked if it has a recycle air option and was told it did, and was showed what it was. It worked fine in hot or warm weather, but does not work when it is very cold. That feature is very important to me, and feel that they are misleading customers when they say it has recycle air, but don't then tell you that it doesn't work when the weather is cold. Is there anything that I can do about this. I'm stuck buying this car for 6 more years. I probably would not have purchased the vehicle, had I known the recycle air did not work all the time. I previously had a Honda and a Mitsubishi that worked just fine in any kind of weather. I should have been told that, "it does not work when it is cold!".
Gear shift moves into gear without depressing the brake pedal. Gear shift lever sticks out past steering wheel in front of ac and radio controls and is easly knocked into gear.
Car caught fire while driving. Dt.
Please invesitgate the oil pumps on the 1999 Dodge Durango. Ours has gone out 2 times over the past 2 1/2 months. The dealer is trying to blame this on sludge in the engine from not changing the oil, but that is not true. We do have our oil changed. They also tried to state that we were really low on oil. My husband had just put a quart of oil in the engine the day before. I went to carsurvey. Com and found several listings of this same problem with the 1999 Dodge Durango. . . The oil pressure suddenly drops to zero. Some reports state they even threw their rods when it happened. Others have had bearing wear. We were on the interstate when our oil pressure suddenly dropped to zero when this happened the first time. We had to stop and continue putting oil in the engine about every 100 miles so we could make it home from vactation. It's like the oil was disappearing, but there was no visible leak. No leak in our driveway when we got home either. The dealer replaced the oil pump after we got home in October. Three weeks later the oil pressure would start at zero when I initially turned on the car in the morning, the check engine light would ding, and then the oil pressure would go up to normal. I thought it was due to cold weather. Last Thursday, I went two blocks and the oil pressure dropped to zero 4 times while I was driving. I immediately returned the car home and my husband had it towed to the dealer because we are afraid to drive it. The dealer is replacing the pump again. I read on carsurvey. Com that someone was told this was a problem with some gasket being too small for the oil pan by the dealer. They asked why there had not been a recall to fix this and there was no reasonable answer given. Please help. There appears to be a bigger problem that is being shuffled under the table.
No description given.
Oil gauge was not operating. Dealer notified, and still unwilling to assist in this matter. Problem has been repaired.
The cup holders in the front are very dangrous cause they will not hold a large cup shen you come to a stop. The drink goes flying at low speeds to the passanger or driver floor causeing driver to react with one hand to recover it , leaving the other on the steering wheel and causing you to jurk it and change lanes and possibel accident it has happened several times and one can not control your reaction. . Very dangerous but a very simple fix!!*k.
I'd like to provide more information via e-mail, crystler is not taking this seriously and I feel I need to be heard. I don't feel safe at all in that vehicle. Please respond to josh@bibliostat. Com and I will send you my full description of the accident and pictures promptly. Thanks. No,safety defect listed in the summary.
I forgot to mention in my list of complaints from thur. 02/10/00, about the paint on the vehicle. There are spots that have appeared on the hood and some on the side . One spot has white showing, the vehicle is black. The spots looks like splatters or some like spider vains. We asked the service deptment the last time tit was being fixed at tomkinson Dodge what it was or what causedit. They said it was bird droppings that caused it and that the color black will do that. We don't beleive this, because our vehicles have alway been parked in the same area and none have ever developed spots from bird droppings. I don't beleive anything was written down about this. We asked a friend, who has a body shop what he thought it was, which he said it looks like the clear coat was that was not applied properly. We feel that it should be repainted at no cost. No safety defect listed within summary.
