Parking Brake Problems of Dodge Durango

When using the parking brake on a hill, there does not seem to be much tension when pressing the pedal to the floor. When releasing the brake, it does release, however the "brake" dash light stays on even after repeated pullings of the brake release handle. The brake does engage/disengage, as I've tested it on level ground.

I was driving this vehicle when I heard a clunk noise, this has been preceded by 2-3 months of a high pitched squeaking noise that the mechanics could find no cause for. After the clunk the vehicle made a whomping rhythmic noise while I drove home. The next morning when I started it to drive to the repair shop it shifted in gear but would go nowhere. It appeared the rear brakes were locked. It wa stowed to the repair shop and the mechanics report that the parking brake on the left side has broken and resulted in jamming and breaking other components. Mechanic also reports the right side appears to be broken as well but has not done the same amt of damage.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. While attempting to exit a parking space, the vehicle would not shift out of the park gear. The contact exited the vehicle and noticed that the brake cable failed. The contact took the vehicle to the mechanic and they stated that the transmission valve failed. The VIN and number of cylinders were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 68,433.

When going to release the emergency brake, the handle broke off from the cable, was not able to release the brake.

I went to release the emergency brake on my car and the handle broke loose from the brake mechanism. The handle which is hinged to the dash board remained hanging from the dash board.
