Air Bag Light On problems of the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan - part 2

The clockspring assembly failed . The airbag light stayed on, the horn failed to work, and the cruise control would not work. I read a report in the newspaper on March 20, 2001 stating the NHTSA was looking at this problem in 96-2000 chyr. Vans. The vehicle was repaired at my expense.

While driving the air bag light could come and stay on for while. Horn did not work, stopped working without prior warning. Also, cruise control did not work.

Dealer replaced airbag and clockspring after I reported that the airbag light was on.

Airbag light came on, dealer replaced clockspring assembly.

Air bag light on dash has come on. Horn has failed to operate, and cruise control no longer works. Dealer informed consumer that clock spring assembly would need to be replaced. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

Vehicle's air bag failed on 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan. In April 2001 the vehicles air bag light illuminated and remained on. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who indicated that the air bag failed. The dealer replaced the air bag along with the clockspring. The consumer paid $842. 92 for the replacement. In January 2001 the consumer received a recall notice related to the clockspring assembly. The manufacturer was contacted and reimbursed the consumer $152. Which they deemed was enough to cover the clockspring assembly. The consumer contested the amount of the reimbursement but has not heard from the manufacturer regarding the matter.

Airbag light was on, horn and cruise control stopped working. Dealer replaced clock spring assembly.

Air bag light illuminates on and off while driving, dealer has replaced clockspring three times and the airbag module twice, consumer is afraid to drive vehicle.

Consumer was driving at approximately 25 to 40 mph when clock spring caused loss of cruise control/ horn, and airbag light was illuminated. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

Airbag light is on, dealer found clock spring assembly needed to be replaced. Consumer states that he had to make 3 different trips to the dealer due to the first 2 trips did not resolve the problem. Brakes failed. Collapsing gas tank. Door locks inoperable.

Electrical problems with the airbag light coming on/ horn failure and cruise control failure.

1996 Dodge caravan has the very common Dodge oil leak. . . Airbag light on also. . Horn does not work.

Service engine light on for the 4th time since July 2000. Airbag light just bee fixed, now door is stuck open and has to be closed from inside. Windshield wipers come on of their own accord. Get it sorted Dodge.

I saw an atricle in the paper, my airbag light was intermittent for several months now always on my stopped working 1 1/2 month ago I haven't checked my cruise control but I will know.

Fuel leakage from top of fuel tank. Dealer / manufacturer notified, and informed consumer no recall on that part, and any repairs would be at consumer's expense. Please feel free to provide and further details on this matter . The vehicle is experiencing fuel odor inside the vehicle especially at fill up, the consumer believes this may be related to recall work performed several months prior, the dealer noticed leak at the top of the tank but stated that it was not related to prior recall repair (o-ring replacement), fule filter was replaced, air bag light is on. Nlm.

Air bag light stays on, clockspring has been replaced.

Horn will not work at times, and air bag light will stay on. A spring came out from the inside of the steering column.

While driving air bags light will come on unexpectedly and stay on. Technician told consumer to find out information about it.

Front windshield wipers turn on every time vehicle makes a turn. Air bag light stays on, which does not allow you to use the horn. Ongoing transmission problems and in rainy weather-water leaks in from what appears to be the rear window seal.

Once van is started, the airbag light stays on plus the horn and cruise control will not work. I have not taken it to a dealer yet. I have posted this problem on the Chrysler internet newsgroup website and it appears that many other minivan owners are having or had the same problem. The fix for the problem seems to be to replace the clock spring. Will NHTSA force Chrysler to do a recall on this problem? thanks.

Windshield wipers still engage by themselves originally repaired 05/99. Transmission went out at30904 miles. Airbag light came on and horn stopped working had to replace click spring. Car stall while driving said it needed tune-up. When using ac or driving in rain and making a turn steering gets stiff and cannot control. Interior lights flash dealer could not duplicate. Power door locks lock and unlock by themselves. Had to replace axle due to it being bent when new transmission was put in. Had to get new tires because axle threw off balance. Keep replacing batteries. Drove car for 10 minutes and fan came on and stayed on after car was turned off.

Wiring system is suspect, airbag light seems to be symptom but not sure is car is safe.

Air bag light now stays on. Cruise control no longer works as does horn. Will need to replace the clock spring in the steering wheel.
