Conventional Parking Brake problems of the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan

Two problems related to conventional parking brake have been reported for the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Conventional Parking Brake problem

Failure Date: 03/10/1999

The parking brake will not set (lock in place). The teeth on the gear are so small the catch will no longer catch in the teeth. The catch apparently has worn slightly. This leaves an inadequate protrusion on the catch to lock into the gear mechanism. The danger is the possibility of the vehicle leaving its parking space. We live on a hill. We also park in other less than level parking spaces. This vehicle no longer has a parking brake. The design appears inadequate.

2 Conventional Parking Brake problem

Failure Date: 11/01/1998

The cable and ratchet mechanism failure caused emergency brakes to fail. Yh.
