Conventional Parking Brake problems of the 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan

Four problems related to conventional parking brake have been reported for the 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Conventional Parking Brake problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2001

Emergency brake intermittently disengages. The van almost ran me over when the brake disengaged while I was winching the boat on the trailer, very dangerous design!!!.

2 Conventional Parking Brake problem

Failure Date: 01/08/1999

The right rear park brake does not engage. Problem found 8 Jan 99. Suspect loose or damaged park brake assy within the brake drum. Assy makes noise when applying tension on the parking brake cable. Left rear park brake functions properly. Normal brake operation (brake pedal) tested good, equal force on left and right brakes. Problem isolated to the right rear park brake assy.

3 Conventional Parking Brake problem

Failure Date: 12/07/1998

Parking brake pedal releases spontaniously when parked on a forward incline.

4 Conventional Parking Brake problem

Failure Date: 09/20/1998

Each time the emergency brake is applied, it releases on its own. The brake was rarely used, and therefore it doesn't seem like it should be defective.
