The head lights go out while driving. No warning signs, you lose all headlights. If the switch is turned on and off several times they will come back on. My lights went off while I was driving down a county highway going 55 mph. There were no street lights. It happened a total of 4 times on my 40 minute drive home through the country. Very scary!.
Headlight switch shut off lights while driving. Now will leave lights on while in the off position and they will turn off but sound will beep as if they are on. This is a major safety issue and should be recalled!!.
Headlights went out while driving at night. Had to fiddle with the on off switch repeatedly to get them to come back on. Could not get issue to replicate.
My headlights will go out completely while I am driving. They also flash off and on while I am driving. They flash at other drivers as if I am signaling them to pull out in front of me, one time almost causing an accident in front of my daughters school. I also have incidents where I cant turn them on at all, or can't turn them off when I park and shut off my car. I will park my car and shut off the lights and when I open the door, the door chime will ring as if I have left them on. They turn themselves on in the middle of the day while I am driving even though the switch in in the off position. My parking lights and dash lights flash by themselves (at random) at all hours of the day and night. We have already replaced the headlight switch and it did not correct the problem.
The headlights would not turn on. The parking lights would come on, but not the headlamps. Turning the switch/dial turned them off, and turned on parking lights, but nothing else. The switch would turn all the way, but nothing. Then the parking lights wouldn't go off at all. Then I got the headlights to come on after messing with the switch for a while. The headlights came on the next day. It seems to be an intermittent problem. . . There are a lot of posts about this problem online. There should be a recall. This is very unsafe.
I got in the vehicle at night. Turned on headlights and they would not come on. Played with switch and they flashed on. Driving down the road they went out and I had to pull over and play with the switch to get them to come back on. They are now, 2 weeks later, at the point that I cannot drive at night. They will not stay on, flash on then go off within a few seconds. After doing research I have found this to be a very common problem with this make and model. Very dangerous!.
The headlights went out by themselves during night highway driving at ~64mph! this was an extremely dangerous situation as I had my wife and 3 children in the van. Completely unacceptable. I had to pull off the highway during heavy traffic, and cycle the headlight switch 6-10 times to get the headlights to illuminate again. Even after that, they would intermittently go out/come on for the duration of out trip home. This is a serious vehicle safety issue.
Headlights will randomly decide not to come on, or go off after car has been running. Parking lights, brake lights and directionals con't to work. Turning the lamp switch on and off a few times does not work. This has happen approximately 4 or 5 times over the last two months. Most recently on June 29 @ 10pm, had been driving on the highway with no incident. Off the highway stopped at a convenience store, after turning car back on and driving a few feet, on an unlit road the headlights went off, had to pull off to the side and shut car off and then restart, this is the only way they seem to come back on, the switch is not effective.
Sometimes, my headlights won't turn on when I start the vehicle (the dashboards lights are still on when this happens). I usually solve the problem by switching the light switch on and off. The problem not only is fixed that way, but it goes away for months at a time and is quite random and mysterious. I am just concerned about the lights frying or suddenly turning off while the car is moving because I work evenings and often commute on the highway. Not only that, but after doing some research it appears quite a few people have this problem. It seems to be a known, mysterious glitch with Dodge caravans from the same year. I get regular oil changes, always pass inspections, and the mechanics never find major issues with the battery, engine, or the headlights themselves. And they usually tell you that the car needs to be present in their shop while the problem is happening, which due to the random, intermittent nature of the problem is nigh impossible to do. It's a very strange problem, but there must be some cause if so many people driving similar cars have had similar complaints.
2005 Dodge Grand Caravan headlight switch will not turn the lights on. You have to keep turning the switch to make it turn on. As you are going down the road at night the lights will flash or they will just turn off.
My head lights turned off on me after night fall. I had to continually turn them on and off several times before they began to work again. Then as I headed home, they flashed on and off. The brights will not stay on either. If I need to run with the brights on when the regular head lights donâ??t work, I have to continually hold the brights in the forward on position. If they headlight work properly, then the bright work properly as well. My fog lamp go on and off all by themselves and I flicker and flash all down the road. The Chrysler dealership here said it is a common problem and in their experience it is the switch at $100 just for the part. Labor is more. If it is so common, then where is the recall? I have had so many problems with this van since I purchased it. Sticking gas pedal, shuttering breaks, and the abs light. All these were huge repair cost out of my pocket. I recently put over $4000 in repair to this van. Right now I cannot afford a $100 part plus labor. Recall please!.
Headlights only work sporadically. At times, they won't turn on at all (running lights and rear lights still work) and it often takes several tries to get them turned on. Holding the lever activates the high beams, which still work. Early this morning, they simply failed while I was driving down a busy road in the dark. Extremely unsafe. Research indicates a recurring problem with the switch as my exact issue has been detailed by many, many individuals. As big as a safety issue as this is, it's hard to imagine how this hasn't spawned a recall.
The headlights will go on and off at any time. This happens while driving or while parked for the night. I have replaced the headlight switch on three occasions, first only the switch, next the switch and battery, and then finally the switch and alternator. Each repair lasts for a few months then the problem returns. This is a very unsafe condition as it happens at night driving. As this is an intermittent issue I cannot get a true diagnosis.
Headlights either will not turn on or go out while driving. Parking and tail lights not effected. Flipping switch on and off will sometimes work. Updated ivoq 10/19/11.
Driving down the road. Headlights went off and could not get them to come back on by turning on the headlight switch. How can I be expected to drive in the dark without headlights?.
Low beam headlamps intermittently don't work. When this occurs, the high-beams will work only by holding back the stalk. Turning the headlight switch on and off a few times seems to fix the problem temporarily.
The headlights switched themselves off while I was driving after dark. Ever since then, the headlights and/or parking lights go on and off intermittently by themselves.
2005 Dodge Grand Caravan has problem with headlights turning on. When I turn the switch, the headlights will not come on. Parking lights do come on. I can have the engine running and have the high beams on, but the low beams do not work. I have replaced the bulbs, and the headlight switch is next - many complaints on many websites about this problem.
While driving, headlights turn off on my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. The problem can be fixed by turning headlight switch off and on several times. A google search tells me that this is a very common issue with 2005 models. I have examined the headlight switch and I feel the issue is due to the design of the switch.
Randomly, head lights do not turn on, have to turn the switch on & off multiple times to get them to come on eventually. Also, on days when having problems with headlights turning on, after you get them to turn on they shut off as you are driving down the road. We have not fixed them, Chrysler dealership told me it could be the switch or the electrical components, they didn't know?!!!!!.
Since purchase, the headlights have randomly stopped working. The dealer couldnt replicate the action. At this point, the headlights were not turning off unless the switch was wiggled. Now the headlights work sporadically, and the parking lights will not go off when switch is in off position. They do however go off over time. We will try replacing light switch to see if this resolves the problem. This is a concern for us with teenage drivers using the vehicle!.
Intermittent problem of headlights not turning on when operating headlight switch or shutting off on their own while driving.
When driving at night, the headlights will come on and off and flash for no apparent reason. Lights will completely turn off and then when you turn the switch on and off again, the lights work again on and off. You will be driving down a dark road and the lights will just turn off. This happened last year for a few days or so and then worked fine for a few months then started turning off again. This is a very dangerous situation. I believe this has been reported by more people having the same issue. We have three children that ride in the van and my wife also drives every night delivering the newspaper.
Headlights on 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan will not always turn on it will sometimes require turning the switch on and off repeatedly. Headlights randomly will turn off while driving.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the headlights would fail sporadically. The contact would often have to continuously engage the headlight switch to get the lights to illuminate. The contact had to utilize the high beam headlights. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The VIN was not available. The current mileage was 103,000.
Headlights went out at night while driving. Turning the headlight switch a few times and they came back on. Next day, headlights would not come on, after turning the headlight switch a few times they came on. All lights work correctly except for headlights. Holding back on high beam switch and lights will stay on "high", however, release high-beam switch and lights go out.
My headlights won't come on sometimes. I have to repeatedly turn the headlight switch off & on (sometimes dozens of times) until they will finally come on. Also the headlight have went off by themselves several times while driving down the road, and came back on within a few seconds. This problems has been happening for about the last 2 yrs, but getting worse & worse.
The headlights do not operate as expected. Sometimes they do not illuminate when the switch is rotated to headlight position, sometimes the headlights flicker while driving, sometimes the headlights shut off automatically while driving. The problem has been intermittent since about 6 months after the vehicle was purchased but frequency has increased drastically in the last 3 month. Now the operation of headlights has become completely unreliable yet difficult to troubleshoot because failure cannot be reproduced on demand (I. E. Headlights function properly when at dealership).
Headlights intermittently fail to illuminate when rotary switch is placed in on position. Multiple rotation of the switch from off to on position is required to get headlights to illuminate. In some cases, 20+ tries were required. I am afraid that complete failure may happen and make vehicle undriveable if it occurs at night. Online forums indicate that this is a fairly common problem.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the headlights would shut off intermittingly without warning. In addition, the contact would attempt to turn on the lights several times before illuminating. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who advised the contact that the switch would possibly need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 80,000. Updated 02/09/lj updated 02/28/11.
Headlight switch not working.
Intermittent headlight function with 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. My headlights turned off by themselves on 2 separate occasions last night while driving in the dark. I had to cycle the headlight switch a few times to get them to work. This is a very dangerous situation. Internet research revealed many complaints about this exact issue.
Headlights will not turn on and have turned off (on their own) while driving. This has happened before and I had to mess with the switch repeatedly on multiple occasions before the lights would come back on. Also, the door locks stop locking/unlocking and we have to pull the fuse, then put it back in for them to work again. Vehicle is a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan sxt.
2005 Dodge Grand Caravan has problem with headlights turning on. It has happened 2 times this week. When I turn the switch, the headlights will not come on. Parking lights do come on. But an hour later when I turn the switch, the headlights come on.
2005 Dodge Grand Caravan headlights intermitently will not turn on or turn off while driving down the road resulting in loss of visibility. May cases of this can be found on internet and my own dealership service center indicated is a known issue with switch ($100+ for new switch). Feel this is a safety issue and should be required recall.
