V51 recall cause problems with power control module. Poor fuel economy trouble starting/ restarting engine not receiving power.
Dealership still cannot pinpoint exactly what is wrong but the car does not start. One time it’ll start and the next it won’t. It’s actually left me stranded in the cold because that seems to be the only time it won’t start. It’s happened to many other Grand Caravan owners too. No mechanic I’ve taken it to can solve the problem I’ve spent so much money replacing parts on this car.
The tipm failed which caused a loss of power to the vehicle and power to the fuel pump. I was driving at approximately 60 mph when the vehicle lost all power and the steering wheel felt locked. I was unable to turn the steering wheel as the Dodge Grand Caravan came to a quick stop as if it was out of gas. Luckily I reacted quickly and was able to avoid an accident. After approximately 10 minutes of trying to restart the vehicle and drive to a safe location the vehicle restarted. This happened again when I was driving and came to a red light at a major intersection and the vehicle stalled out as if out of gas and the steering locked. I again tried to restart the vehicle intermittently for 15 minutes; after which it finally restarted, and I was able to drive and get out of the intersection without an accident. I was lucky that this didn't cause an accident. The other times the defective tipm and power to the fuel pump caused the vehicle to fail to start and left me stranded. I have had the vehicle diagnosed and the tipm repair price is quite expensive. The vehicle did not have any check engine or warning lights before this occurred. I have read many similar complaints of this occurring with others driving Dodge/Chrysler vehicles. I feel that there is evidence that the tipm and the fuel pump on the 2011 Dodge caravan are safety concerns. Every experienced mechanic I have spoken with is aware of the common issue with the tipm, and power to the fuel pump and vehicle. Although I avoided an accident there is a concern for everyone's safety.
The tipm fuel pump relay is stuck causing the fuel pump to stay on even when the vehicle is turned off and the key is not in the ignition switch. This problem is, its dangerous if I was ever to be in an accident and fuel pump will stay on according to the mechanic. Also my car battery is drained after an hour making it undrivable until I call a tow or get a jump start. It was inspected by a mechanic and the vehicle is available for inspection. No warning lamps were on or previous symptoms before 4/30/21. Only the sound of a running fuel pump when the car is completely off. Mechanic states car is known to have this issue. Recalls were made for other Dodge vehicles with same part number but they failed to include the this model.
Car starts intermittently especially when in colder conditions takes 3 to 4 starts , hard to start , put in neutral and starts right away ,car feels like it’s going to stall out when accelerating at times.
The accelerator pedal sticks in full throttle and forces the car to speed forward. Brakes barely overcome the acceleration and the engine will accelerate from a complete stop. Super dangerous and there are a number of threads on vehicle forums that describe the situation.
This vehicle always fails to start in the colder weather. After a review of this condition. It has been found that the fuel pump relay does not send proper signal. This relay is a part of the totally integrated power module (tipm). When it fails to operate, the vehicle will experience long crank times. With its ignition switch style, as soon as you turn the key, the vehicle will continue to crank unless you manually turn the switch all the way back to the off position. This condition will cause the starter motor to overheat or burn up. Eventually the vehicle may start then die. Fuel delivery is too inconsistent when colder weather arises. You can't just replace a plug-in-style replacement fuel pump relay since it is a part of the whole tipm. This vehicle has not yet died in traffic or on the highway thank god. There is never any cel illumination or any stored fault codes. It started doing this the first winter I bought it. This is my second year and it's only just fall and it is acting up again. This is a known issue among these tipms that are on more than just this vehicle but many other Dodge/chryslers with this same tipm. Someone needs to take accountability for a faulty product that needs redesigned before these issues continue to affect the consumers that trust in their product. I hope that this issue is addressed and resolved before others continue to complain about vehicle faults, or even worse experience any catastrophic conditions resulting in death of consumers based on this faulty tipm, that controls most aspects of the whole vehicle.
Vehicle shakes, dash lights flash on an off, doesn't want to accelerate, check engine light flashes occasionally. Mechanic has run diagnostic tests, the only code the vehicle is showing is oil pressure.
The fuel pump relay failed. This is a very common problem with caravans, and is very expensive to fix. The grand cherokee and durango have the same design, and there is a recall on those models. The caravan should have a recall declared as well. Thank you.
Purchased van no problem mechanic gave great review following week wouldnt start mechanic said tipm is bad we had tipm rep[laced already 3 times and now its bad again this time I was with my family when van completly shut off on highway doing 70 miles a hour we have to carry a jumper battery pack with us to start van I called crysler and they informed me there is no problems with my vans tipm well thats funny google has over 45 thousand articles about these problems and nobody does anything about it till people die.
The gas pump stays activated after the car is turned off; as a consequence it has drained the car battery twice.
Vehicle will turn over but not start and other times it will finally start but then will die right away. We have tried everything under the stars to fix it and its getting to the point that we don't know what to do. Our battery and alternator are good everything else works just fine. The vehicle is always parked on flat surface.
Van will bog down and then just shut off. Will also take 5-6 times before it will restart. The electrical goes haywire randomly. Found out the tipm is bad and there was a recall on other vehicles doing the same exact thing during the same years.
When you put the key in it it just cranks and cranks and cranks but never starts. When it first started it was just occasionally but now it wont start at all so it just sits in the driveway. I'm a grandmother raising her grandchildren be nice to have a vehicle to take the babies to their appts. But obviously Dodge doesn't care because they are aware of this problem and dont want to make the part available to us to fix it so we spend the money for these vehicle to set in our driveways. I purchased the van on a Friday and within a week it started hit and miss starting and by the second week in is now parked in my driveway. This is crazy Dodge you need to make this right or at least make the part available for us to purchase so we can fix our vehicles.
My Dodge Grand Caravan is hard to start. Sometimes it cranks for minutes without starting, like it's out of gas. Then it will start and run fine. Sometimes it starts, but chugs and dies right away. This has happened several times in the month of October 2019 but it was worse on 10/27/19. Other 2011 models have had recalls for the tipm, the Grand Caravan has not.
Intermittent starting problems, will just keep cranking and not turn over. Problem continues to happen more often over time.
When you place key in ignition car will not turn over. There is a constant clicking sound , but car will not start. After numerous attempts car will only start if you take car out of park, then shift into reverse and then back into park. Once this has been done then car will start.
When driving, the van will start shaking and shut down. This has happened while in park too. Also, when van won't start, we open up the fuse box and sometimes just by putting your hand on the fuse box the electrical system will "start-up" then we can cycle the van on. This has happened while parked outside the bank and while at a red light in traffic.
First thing I noticed was the tire pressure gauges come off and on randomly even though the pressure is correct. Sometimes, my vans sliding doors when they should be opening, start closing before the door is even open completely and without anyone hitting the button to close (my 3 year old fingers were smashed in the door due to this. Luckily, xrays revealed none were broken, but I am left with an expensive hospital bill)). When I go from reverse to drive, sometimes it feels as though I'm being jerked forward because the shift is so hard. Lastly, my van started not wanting to start in the mornings. After testing battery and replacing spark plugs, the problem continued to get worse. It's like it wants to start but can't get gas so it dies. Repeatedly trying got it to start, but then it quit. I was able to get it to start one more time and drove to mechanic. They informed me it's a faulty tipm module, and it now won't even continue to run once it's started. So they informed me they cannot fix it because only a dealership can reprogram it, and that because it's the module it's not safe to drive even if I could get it to start to take it to the dealership because it can die in the middle of driving it leading to dangerous situations. So now I'll have to pay to tow it. I just purchased the van 3 months ago because I needed room for my 4th child and wanted a safe, reliable vehicle. Now I have a car payment and a vehicle with only a little over 80,000 miles that isn't reliable and is sitting because I don't have the money to repair what should have never been placed in the vehicle to begin with given it was defective before installation. Please help people like me by holding the manufacturer accountable for falsely reporting a safe vehicle when they knew it had a defective part that can only be fixed by a dealership since it has to be programmed.
Stationary fails to start. Engine cranks but does not start. Does not store an error code.
Difficult to start. Once started dies. If power is maintained and you get moving, will die when power is reduced. If on road and let off power to slow down, it dies. Bad news if in a traffic situation, especially at night. No check engine light as a warning. Then one day it will start to act normal. . . . . Then the "will not start routine" starts all over again. Took to shop. No indicators on diagnostics. Problem would not duplicate at shop.
The tipm in our van has failed, it is a known and common issue for Chrysler and they refuse to acknowledge the issue or do anything to fix the issue. It causes multiple electrical system failures and ultimately renders the engine useless at random times when the relay fails. My car will no longer start due to the failure of this part, and the known issues with it.
While driving, my van would suddenly accelerate. It did this multiple times then it wouldn't start. After researching other complaints on this make and model we tried the fuel relay bypass. It fixed the problem for a while be eventually it stopped working. The fuel relay is the problem and needs to be recalled because there isn't a way to permanently fix the problem at this time. Dodge issued recalls for the durango and Jeep grand cherokee for the same issue.
I have been having problems with starting my vehicle. It wants to start but will not kick over. I have to call a tow truck and they bring it to Dodge and they continue to tell me there is nothing wrong. It starts again. This has been going on for months an finaly Dodge said it was my alternator. It was replaced and after a week the same thing has happened. It has done it a few other times but will start after a few times. The vehicle is parked.
My 2011 caravan started having problems starting , first it would act like it was going to start but then it wouldn't thinking it just wasn't getting enough power I went and had the battery checked and went ahead and replaced the battery. Problem not fixed it acted like it wasn't getting fuel from the line so I went to get the fuel filter changed no help there either. Was told to have the tcim checked because that's what everyone said that has been having the same issue. Turns out it is the tcim and Dodge is not fixing the problem. . . It has now began to stall out while driving down the hwy and has made it very dangerous to pull the van to a safe place off the hwy. This problem has been reported several times to Dodge with no luck . There's evan a 2017 Dodge caravan that is having the same problem. . .
The vehicle stopped in the middle of the road as I was driving, the vehicle took a while to start at times. The vehicle would not start.
My van won't start up in the first attempt it start up I the second attempt it all happen when I pump gas from arco station.
Car would not start but wiper blades would turn on, took to dealership. Totally integrated power module (tipm) found to be defective. $1500 repair, part is not in stock and not under warranty. Car was parked. There was a lawsuit filed but settlement did not include Dodge caravans but there are numerous complaints about the same issue.
The eco fuel button is stuck and is making my check engine light go on and off. Also the switch for the air/heat turns on by itself, it's a safety hazard knowing that this happens randomly. Both of these things happen anytime the car is on. Continues to happen driving or not.
Van stalls and sometimes will not start back up . This has happened a few times on the highway so I can no longer drive the van as this problem is getting worst every day my husband drives it to work and has had the same problem as I have had with the van. We are thinking of trading it in but don't want anyone to get suck in the middle of the highway.
My van is cranking but not turning over. There are several recalls for the same issue for other Dodge and Chrysler vehicles but not mine. It states when researching it's a tipm issue.
While traveling on freeway 65 mph vehice completely stalled out after several attemps to restart in restarted has stalled multiple times mechanic says it is fuell pump relay in tipm.
Our vehicle was hard to start, and would sometimes stall while driving. After doing a bit of research on all possible solutions, it only worked when bypassing the fuel relay. This is the same problem that affected the durango and grand cherokee with their tipm.
My tipm failed while driving on a highway near my house. Fuel delivery cut off while driving. The vehicle fortunately had enough momentum to get back home, but will not start at all. Diagnosed as a faulty tipm module. Doing some research, NHTSA has previously recalled a very similar tipm in the grand cherokee and durango, essentially allowing Chrysler to recall the vehicles and install a new relay that bypasses the tipm and allows fuel to flow. I encourage NHTSA to expand this recall to all affected 2010+ Chrysler vehicles with tipms in the strongest possible terms. I am very lucky that I wasn't stranded or seriously injured. Many other similar complaints exist online and even in the NHTSA forums.
My automatic detector for windshield wipers is inop. My vehicle will not start up in the morning. Replaced numerous items and was told it was tipm which is a known issue searching throughout the internet.
