Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while traveling at 40 mph, the engine ceased to operate without warning. The contact was able to coast the vehicle into a parking lot but was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact had the vehicle towed to his home; the contact called a mechanic to his home and had his starter replaced. Despite the repair, the engine seized again without warning. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with engine failure. The vehicle had not been taken to a dealer. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and informed him that his vehicle was not under recall. The contact was then referred to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000. Jo.
Van shuts off while driving - 3x in a fifteen minute span. Loss of steering and ability to control the car. Only 70k miles - extremely dangerous. Must put the car in park to turn it back on. Local mechanic cannot diagnose the problem because the diagnostic computer is not sent any kind of signal. Battery has been tested 3x and found to be working normally. Mechanic drove the car approximately 25 miles over 3 separate periods to repeat the engine failure and could not. Says he cannot 'fix' a problem if it cannot be detected.
