general problems of the 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan - part 2

The back side driver side door is stuck into lock position and will not unlock and the door will not open. I feel this is a safety issue! besides the fact I have several kids and these doors are the reason I bought this vehicle.

Van shuts off while driving - 3x in a fifteen minute span. Loss of steering and ability to control the car. Only 70k miles - extremely dangerous. Must put the car in park to turn it back on. Local mechanic cannot diagnose the problem because the diagnostic computer is not sent any kind of signal. Battery has been tested 3x and found to be working normally. Mechanic drove the car approximately 25 miles over 3 separate periods to repeat the engine failure and could not. Says he cannot 'fix' a problem if it cannot be detected.

Sold by dealer as hands free for phone, it isn�t. When purchased agreed to give second key fob and repair door, over $600 later I have a key fob and my doors stay closed, transmission failed had to be replaced, and now the catalytic converters is out. There could not be a bigger lemon than this vehicle!.

Engine requires key wiggling to start 9 times out of 10 no matter where or how its parked, randomly won't start or starts and shuts back off also with no positional correlation, and randomly shuts off while driving without warning or check engine lights, usually at lower rates of speed. Battery drains and have had to replace it 3 times in as many years.

I had to change the transmission after 60 k miles although I took very good care of the car. The mechanic and other customers were reporting the same issue with same model! gear doesn't shift from first to second gear. While driving on normal road and normal speed. This car mainly used to commute to school nearby. Never off-road and never missed a maintenance required. No cushion light but there is a code and a replacement or transmission rebuilt is required, my poor family lost thousands of dollars on this job. The mechanic encouraged me to report this vehicle due to many smeller cars from the same type and model with exact same transmission problems. He took care of my car and it shouldn't have any issues. Please investigate and advise.

Ignition switch the van turn off if you hit a bump an highway.

Van shuts off when driving. Ignition chip bad very dangerous and part was recalled on caravans up to 2010. Should it be extended to 2012 vehicles.

Both back sliding doors want to close automatically after opening all the way. They won't always stay open when a person tries to enter the vehicle. I have a handicapped daughter and this is very dangerous for her. Happens when vehicle is stationary. Happens about everytime you open door.

My vehicle randomly stalls while I am driving. It happens at varying times of the day, varying speeds, sometimes several times a week, other times it is fine for a month. I have had it to the dealership several times and they cannot find anything wrong with it.

Vehicle has extreme vibration problem occurring at approximately 40 and 80mph this eventually caused it to stop running. Vehicle was towed to a service center where no problem could be found. However, transmission fluid was added and transaxle oil filter was changed. Problem not resolved. Eight months later engine mounts needed replaced due to shift in engine/transmission by 6 in. Problem not resolved. Two weeks later transmission filter changed, fluid and dr tranny added. Problem not resolved. Vibration stops when gas is no longer applied however returns at approximately 30-45mph. Problem has been noticeable for over 2 years.

Vehicle shuts off during driving. Dodge did I need a whole new ignition setup. Other 2012 Dodge caravans have this as a recall. Vehicle also won't switch gears and rpms go up to 6000 at times.

I called the dealer inpanama city, FL to set up appointment to fix recall and they told me there was a long waiting list to get it fixed. They took my name and number and said they'd contact me when I came up on list. They have not called me back so I have not had the recall fixed. That was three months ago.

For a couple of weeks the engine and battery lights would come on but flash off. I assumed that the oil just needed to be changed. Had the oil changed on 8/17/15 and requested that the mechanic put it on the computer for any additional issues. When I picked up my 2012 Dodge caravan the service technican stated that nothing was found. Then on 8/28 I was driving at 35 mph when all the dashboard lights started coming on and the van seemed sluggish. Because I wasn't sure what was happening I pulled over to the side of the road and shut the vehicle off. . . Letting it sit about 10minutes - when I went to start it, it would not start. Had a friend come and jump me so I could get it home. Had a mechanic come to the house and put it on the computer and found the alternator was blown. It is barely 3 years old and only 63830 miles.

Faulty tipm. Wife transporting children, van stalls and cannot be started after multiple attempts. No pwer to entire vehicle. Very dangerous. Dodge says this is not a recall but online research exposes that this is a huge safety issue. What is going on. Issue a reecall before someone gets hurt or killed!!.

The passenger side sliding door becomes stuck shut and unable to open. In the event of an emergency we would not be able to quickly get a child out from that side. This is not a failure of power doors. The door physically won't open regardless of being unlocked.

Our passenger side and rear heating system will not shut off. It continues to blow full blast regardless of any action we take. This was the first day we did not need heat since we bought the car this past fall, so we were unaware of the issue. It continues to happen. There are thousands of similar complaints online and no recall has been ordered. Why?.

Received a recall notice in January 2015, original appointment made in February to have the rear quarter vent window switch replaced, now I have been on a waiting list at jeff wyler eastgate since being told that their has been 100-50 people ahead of me and that the dealer gets about 10 of the parts in monthly so my wait could be another 5-6 months. Not having the part keeps the rear of the car hot so we cannot ventilate allowing air into the rear windows. This is unacceptable when someone invests 20-30 thousand into a car purchase.

My heat in the Grand Caravan stopped blowing heat in -10 below weather. I called Dodge customer service and they said take the vehicle to a dealer and have the issue diagnosed and call them back. The hvac system needed to be updated apparently ( which means im not the only person that had this issue and is no fault of my own) and would cost $105 to reprogram the system. I called Dodge and they said nothing could be done as it was no longer under factory warranty even though their system programmimg was faulty. This is a safety concern as it has been one of the coldest winters on record and I purchased this van with 34000 miles on it June of 2014 to transport my 4 month old baby and ive only put 6000 miles on it.

I have received a second recall notice on my van ; have taken it in for service and asked about having the issue taken care of but, the dealership has not received replacement parts yet. It is now the middle of January 2015 and this notification was first issued last June!! what is the hold up with the parts.

With no warning, I went out to start my 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan, and it turned over for about a second, then it was like someone turned off the power to the starter . . . It just quit! I tried and tried to start it, but all I get is one small click when I turn the key. I got online and did a search, only to find that this problem has been rampant for years now; and Chrysler apparently won't do anything about it. I am currently unemployed and need my van to look for work, and to get to work if I find a job. We are living on my wife's income right now, so I can't afford to put it in the shop, and the warranty has run out. It's only 2 years old . . . There's no way I should be having major problems this soon! I don't know what I'm going to do at this point, but I am furious after reading the horror stories people have posted, where some have spent $2000 - $3000 to get this fixed, and then the problem comes back!!!.

In fall of last year (2014), I received the p25/NHTSA 14v-234 safety recall notice for the rear quarter vent window switch. I've been trying to schedule with local dealership to have new part installed for almost a year now with no success. I've been told I was put on a waiting list while the service department waits for the part(s) to arrive which are on back order. I recently received another recall notice in the mail and would like to get this resolved. Please advise.

I received a safety recall letter for rear quarter vent window switch, may get overheated and have fire so took it to the sherman Dodge they disconnected the switch and told they let me know when the parts arrive, its been almost 5 months they have not called and when I call they say the parts are not there.

All lights on the dashboard came on and the vehicle starting dinging. I pulled over, shut it off, saw no visible problems, tried to restart, & the vehicle would not respond to the fob. Had it towed, where they replaced the clock spring. Had the vehicle for 6 days when it did the same thing. I am now told that they have to replace the tipm module. This part is on backorder across the us. Everything I've read says it will be 3 mths or longer before the part is available. Chrysler is aware of the problem & a class action lawsuit has been filed. I am in a power wheelchair, and my van has been equipped with a wheelchair ramp, kneeling system, driver's transfer seat, and low effort steering. I now have to leave my van at the dealer until it is fixed because it's not safe to drive. The dealer provides a loaner but I am unable to transport my power wheelchair. It weighs 360 lbs so it cannot be lifted into a vehicle. I work full time, and rely on my wheelchair to give me the stamina to make it through the day. This tipm module failure is now completely interfering with my life. I will have to make extra plans to get groceries, and to get to and from work. Chrysler needs to do something and admit their part is faulty, get them out to people who need them, and cover the cost. Once the tipm module is installed, the dealer will charge me another $550.

My vehicle was parked in my driveway about 50 feet away from the road at apprx 11:00 am 5/3/2014 when me and my husband heard a pop looked outside to see that my rear windshield exploded. My side vents where both open on the vehicle and it was not driven since 5/2/2014 at 12:30 pm. Then was parked from there on. Police came by and saw no foul play.

Cpcs: i1440342a. Car charger. Consumer stated she had the charger plugged into the outlet in her 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan, an it started smoking with no device plugged into it.

It shakes rattles , rides like freight truck not smooth riding at all air comes around all doors dust also , doors rattle like they were not shut properly the van whistles at various times sounds like coming from motor or front of van under hood somewhere middle seats do not fold down into the compartment as shows to be stow a way seats it real shakes bounces like no shocks on it not smooth riding like the demo vans I test drove and is really load on inside from out side van from other noises and wind I have had it into the dealer 2 times for this I had less than 10,000 miles first time and it rode as if the van was 200,000 miles and over 10 years old they stated they fixed it but it was not. It has been this way since the day we bought it dealer says it gets better after 2 or 3 thousand miles or first oil change but it has not now it has the whistle thing going on bought the van may 22 2012 paid almost $30,000. For it expect for this kind of money it would ride smoother like the demos I test drove I am very disappointed in it . A friend asked about buying a new one like mine (she has handicap child) I told her to buy kia instead it would ride better . It would be better if dealership had not lied also they were suppose to refund the $900. Excise tax if I bought it that day and still had to wait over a week for the delivery to dealer before I got my van.

Passenger side sliding door rattles as if open dealer replace door panel did not fix said left side taillight was cause replace it did not fix said manufacturer left brake clips off brake pads replace still rattles told know its my imagination also transmission problems mash gas easy to maintain speed have to keep mashing almost to floor before any thing happens then it drops down into passing gear almost making you rear end vehicle ahead of you sometimes on take off will start going then hesitate causing a possible crash situation dealer said transmission needed computer update this made it worst put two more update still not shifting right have made manufacturer aware have open star case with them still can not get problems resolve have parked van at 15685 miles I feel that its unsafe for my wife an grand kids to be in ! I have several mech drive it they say something wrong also.
