Company employee reported that while driving our company's 2014 Dodge caravan the air bag warning light came on, on the dash. Immediately took the van to the auto repair shop they determined, by computer code, that the driver's side side airbag was defective and needs replaced. Since this is a dealer product it will be over $540 dollars to fix the issue.
At approximately 46,600 miles the airbag warning light/alert came on whjile driving on the highway. It now randomly comes on while driving. Sometimes it stays lit during the whole trip, sometimes it turns on and off several times during one trip. Speed does not matter as it comes on at random. Also, it comes on whether there are 6 passengers or just the driver.
My 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan has about 40k miles and the air bag warning light activates intermittently. I have an extended warranty that does not cover airbags and the dealership (with whom I purchased the warranty) has no interest in diagnosing the issue unless I pay an up-front fee. I think a vehicle this new should not be having this issue in the first place as it is obviously a defect or an electrical failure of some sort. Do I have any recourse? thanks!.
The contact rented a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that after the vehicle was started, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,900.
