4 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2020

The driver's side headrest has deployed on it's own while parked in a driveway and turned off. After inspection, the plastic brackets that retain the metal pin that is supposed to secure the headrest broke apart and released the headrest into a deployed position. This is a design flaw that should be recalled before someone becomes injured. The headrest is under a spring loaded force that the plastic was not engineered to restrain.

5 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2019

The van was in park, off, locked and unoccupied, in my driveway, on a level surface, when the driver side front seat headrest safety system deployed. It was discovered when we were preparing to leave. The plastic tabs on the inside of the headrest appear to have broken, allowing it to move up and forward.

6 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2019

The front passenger headrest popped forward while adjusting the seat to load equipment in the rear floorboard compartment. The plastic assembly that holds the metal pin which is used to keep the headrest in its normal position had broken. This is apparently a common problem according to internet research but no recall has been issued. The vehicle was stationary in my driveway and not running.

7 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2017

When I collapse the second row seats in my 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan, the head rest snap downward, extremely fast with a powerful force. I am required to pull on a handle on the doorside of the seat, which begins the automatic process of the folding of the chair, to eventually be able to store the seat in the floor of the van, for cargo space. The first time I attempted to store the second row passenger seat, on the driver's side of the vehicle, I placed my left hand on the inside, upper part of the seat, where your right shoulder might be if you are sitting in the seat. When I raised the handle to collapse the seat, the head rest, slammed down on my left arm. It was painful, it felt like my left arm may have been fractured, and it was badly bruised for more than a month. The next time I was clipped by the head rest, I was pulling up on the handle and at the same time instinctually remembered what happened the first time, and in an attempted to pull my arm out of harm's way, my left wrist was smashed under the force of the headrest. My most recent injury from the head rest malfunction, was a bash to my head while collapsing the passenger side second row seat. I wanted to talk to some one at Dodge about this, but I was unable to locate a contact for these matters. I am glad I found your site. I hope no one else has had the same, or even similar experiences. Thank you for your attention to this matter. The vehicle was stationary when these events took place.

8 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2016

The 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan was the direct cause of injury during appropriate and expected use of the vehicle. The vehicle did not malfunction. I was sitting in the middle left passenger's seat while the vehicle was in park. I was not wearing a seatbelt because the vehicle was off and in a safe parking lot. I attempted to engage the reclining function of the seat. The seat flew forward with extraordinary force upon engaging the recliner lever. The seats have stow-n-go, a mechanical feature that folds the seat into the floor for storage. The lever to engage stow-n-go and the lever to engage recline are the same lever, and there is no warning sign on the seat, in the vehicle, or in the owner's manual. The headrest folded forward, striking me in the back of the head and neck, and the seat struck my back. I received a concussion, whiplash, and permanent hearing damage and tinnitus due to the impact. Medical treatment is ongoing to determine severity of compressed nerves and damage to bone, with symptoms persisting five months after and are considered to continue persisting for months by medical professionals because of the trauma directly caused by the vehicle.
