Transmission pump failed while driving and resulting in loss of drivability. Vehicle began making a whining sound while on the interstate and we exited the highway. Vehicle lost ability to move while in a parking lot/drive-thru.
The transmission pump has failed while driving and now the transmission will not shift smoothly it jerks and sometimes won't shift at all making the rpm's go very high before it shift with a hard jerk. Makes a whining noise and is unstable.
Transmission pump not covered has this problem should be covered under recall but is not why.
On Friday sept 4th I was using my vehicle normally . After turning it off at my home after going to the bank, I attempted to turn it back on to go to work and it wouldn't move into gear. I put the vehicle in drive, but the engine just made a revving sound and didn't move. I tried reverse, neutral, drive and the vehicle only revved. After missing work, we had the vehicle towed to a local repair shop that told us a recall was not including our VIN #. They explained that the transmission pump wasn't getting fluid to the transmission and since it failed our transmission was damaged. We our now facing needing a new transmission. I don't see how there is an active recall that includes my make and year and vehicle type but excludes my VIN. If I had been aware of a recall a small repair could have been made. Now my vehicle needs an entire new transmission. This could have been deadly if my vehicle died in the middle of an intersection. A caravan is sold specifically as a family vehicle. Yet this company is putting my babies at risk. If their transmission pump is bad it's in all the caravans, not just one or two. This needs to be fixed before someone actually gets injured.

Driving at 65 mph, there was a lurch in the transmission, and the car came to a halt on the highway. Thankfully we had time to pull the vehicle over before it stopped completely. We had it towed to a Dodge dealer, where we found out that the transmission pump failed. This failure, not only stopped the car completely, but has a repair ticket of $5,400. This is a known issue for fca, but the pump failure only covers a limited number of vehicles. This pump failure may be effecting more vehicles than initially thought.
We have performed very regular maintenance on our vehicle since purchasing it. We reached 95k miles and out of nowhere, while driving, it lost ability to pull forward and started whining loudly. I turned it off and back on again and it moved forward into the drive but continued to make the loud noise. Transmission pump faliure in the middle of driving (on rr. 47), had to proceed to a spot to stop, making a left turn at a green light not knowing if it would actually accelerate, now I am told by a mechanic that whenever the pump heats up we will lose all gears. . .
While driving this vehicle it began to lose power and would not accelerate when I pushed the gas and then the vehicle would jump from 1 to 5 rpms. Took to Dodge dealership they had to rebuild the transmission due to bad transmission pump.
Tl- the contact owns a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the vehicle began to hesitate to go above 40 mph. The vehicle would be able to be driven at times after some effort, however, at other times the vehicle would not be able to be driven and or hesitate to be driven. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired as of yet. The vehicle was in motion but wouldnt shift would just take the rpms to 7000. The transmission was getting so hot it was making my temperatures gauge for my engine rise. I pulled off on exit 92 on 81 southbound by the time the vehicle came to a stop I was seeing flames coming out from the floorboard. I bought the vehicle certified preowned but I never recieved a recall for the transmission pump as it shows there is one on this website. My vehicle is a total lose and it completely burned my vehicle by the time the fire department got there.
I was driving home at night, around 35mph. All of a sudden the transmission and rpms went off the charts, all the way up to 7000rpms, any sort of acceleration by tapping the gas pedal caused the vehicle to malfunction. I had my daughter in the car and tried to get pulled off to the side of the road and get the vehicle stopped. Once I got it stopped it was undrivable at this point and had to call a tow service. My local mechanic deemed it to be the transmission pump went out while I was driving. No warning, no lights, nothihg. Now the van is at the Dodge dealer for inspection. I was told that Grand Caravans had a recall on transmission pumps between the dates of July 31, 2015 and April 18,2016 (mine was manufactrured October 2015) even though it falls in those dates, my VIN# was not attached to the recall. (s44 is the recall number, also the NHTSA campaign number is 16v461000) this was a serious malfunction, and could have been more serious if I would have been driving just a little faster. At one point, the vehicle kept accelerating without the gas pedal being pushed. We were lucky I was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road. Once the van was shut off, there was a burning odor coming from the vehicle. I have looked and found several others with the same issue as mine, who were not included in the recall and should of been. Hopefully an investigation will open soon, before someone gets seriously injured.
Transmission pump at about 20-30 mph the transmission does not shift smoothly or at 40mph it slips into neutral and revs to 4000 rpms but the speed does not increase.
