The contact owns a 2017 Dodge caravan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph attempting to accelerate to pass another vehicle, the vehicle accelerated abruptly. The contact depressed the brake pedal but the vehicle continuously accelerated. The cruise control light went on and off. There was smoke detected from the brakes. The contact shifted into neutral. The tachometer display revved up and vehicle was idling, then revved up to 4000 rpm and back to idle. The contact was able to put the vehicle in drive and it drove as designed. The contact called the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified but no additional assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 62, 500.
