1 Child Seat Tether Strap problem of the 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 06/05/2003

The rear seatbelts on the rear bench of our 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan do not stay latched on our carseats. In June of 2003 I notified Dodge and they stated they had not received any complaints regarding this issue. They now have my complaint - referral #11380233. The rear bench is also not latch equipped but does have one rear top tether anchor placed in the middle. I have 3 (soon to be 4) children in carseats. I was under the impression that all seats were to be latch compatible in all positions. As for the seatbelt issue, the dealer claimed ignorance to the internet so I have printed off the stories on unsafebelts. Com to take to them today when I go to pick it up. They claim they have not been able to trigger the response - but then they didn't try to buckle in one of my many carseats either so they will be doing that today.

2 Child Seat Tether Strap problem of the 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/02/2001

With the car parked and engine turned off, I was unable to remove my child from the integrated child safety seat of my Dodge Grand Caravan. The straps are supposed to pull forward freely, which then loosens them enabling the straps to slip over the childs head. After several tries, I was unable to pull the straps forward at all. I then managed to unclip the clips which are located on the bottom sides of the seat and then just barely slip the strap and yoke over her head to free her from the seat. I contacted the local dealership and the Chrysler corporation about this matter. I was told by both parties that since my vehicle was over the 3 yr. /36,000 mile warranty that neither would help to assist in the repair. I was also told that it would cost somewhere around $700. 00 making it a very costly repair!!! I hate to think of what might happen if I were really in a car accident and had to get my child out of the seat quickly, only to find out that the belt seized or froze up like it did unabling me to get my child out of the vehicle!!.

Day cares vehicle used to transport children has a integral child seat. Harness strap tightens up & is very hard to release. It appears to be a safety hazard. In the event of an accident, it could be time consuming & dangerous to the child trying to get them out. Dealer hasn't responded to the problem.

4 Child Seat Tether Strap problem of the 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 09/16/1997

5 Child Seat Tether Strap problem of the 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan

When using this booster seat in my van, when my child leans forward, the seatbelt, when put throught the seat belt guides on the booster seat, becomes loose and slack. When my child sits back the seat belt gets caught up on the seat belt guide, and the seat belt just hangs loose- this would definately be a problem in a crash. I'm sure the manufacturer is aware of this because consumer reports magazine just did an article about car seats, and this issue was brought up. I am going to be contacting the manufacturer myself- but your help would be appreciated. Thank you.

6 Child Seat Tether Strap problem of the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan

The straps to the safety seat do not retract properly to hold the child securely. There should be another piece to keep the child from separating the straps and getting out of the seat. Also the child is able to release the safety seat extensions which were installed to fix the problem when the safety seats were recalled.
