Unknown Or Other problem #1

Should a vehicle owner continue to keep their older vehicles the headlamps on many vehicles have plastic faces that become etched over time making it impossible to drive the vehicle at night without putting on the high beams. Hence night driving has become hazardous for these vehicles and to others. The kits to clean them do not work. The entire headlamp on the vehicles need to be replaced to correct this problem and that costs hundreds of dollars. It is not so simple as to just replace a plastic cover. The vehicle manufacturers should replace them free of charge. Plastic doesn't remain clear and visible specifically in the northeast where salt and sand are applied to the roads for winter driving. Highway driving is havec on plastic also. Are the stats up for night driving accidents???.

Unknown Or Other problem #2

Driver side sliding door will not lock/unlock with key remote or interior control. The vehicle is equipped with the feature that locks all the doors when the vehicle reaches 20mph. The door will not lock with this feature either.

Unknown Or Other problem #3

There is a heater hose assembly leading from the top of the engine to the heater cores in the passenger compartment. A hose comes out of the engine and into a y-coupling, where it splits into two hoses. One hose leads into the firewall and the front heater core. The second goes under the vehicle to the back heater core. A coolant leak developed in the y-coupling, leaking coolant onto the exhaust. After leaking for some time, the check engine light came on to indicate low coolant. . Read more...

Unknown Or Other problem #4

The air conditioning on my vehicle stopped working. Took it to a service center for repair. (did not use dealership because the service is terrible and car was out of warranty) repair was made and the shop even pointed out the flaw in the part and that it had be redesigned. Found out that a customer satisfaction notification k04 had been issued for the a/c discharge hose which is what was replaced on my vehicle. Contacted Chrysler and claim for reimbursment was denied because my vehicle VIN did not qualify even though it was the correct model year, during the build period, the correct engine type in a cold weather state and exactally the part that was recalled for other vans. Apparently Chrysler is not willing to reimburse and do the right thing for a part they know is bad so I was told my only way to get any reimbursement may be to file here and if enough other people have the same issue that another recall may go out in which my car would qualify.

Unknown Or Other problem #5

Twice in the past two months the aluminum valve stems that hold the tpms sensors on our Grand Caravan have broken off. 1st incident in April while vehicle was parked in driveway and second while my wife and children, age 5 and 4 years, were traveling at highway speeds. The second incident stranded my wife and children in 100+ degree f heat for close to an hour while they had to wait for aaa to arrive and change the spare for them. Thankfully it was a rear tire that blew out and not a front. Could have ended much worse. Upon inspection noticed that tire sidewall had excessive wear from loosing air at highway speeds and being driven to safe stopping position. Decided to go ahead and purchase four new tires because wife and children will be taking an extended driving trip soon. Noticed that the 2011 and 2012 models now have the much more reliable rubber valve stems and sensors instead of the failing aluminum stems. A little research shows that they will interchange directly. Asked dealer if they would replace all four with more reliable stem at time of tire change. Said yes, but only if I pay for them. Amount? close to $400. 00 why should the customer pay for a part that is poorly designed and known for failure. A little research of the NHTSA website for for multiple model years of Dodge and Chrysler vehicle shows that this has been an issue for a number of years now and has amassed a large number of complaints. Are we just waiting until some person gets seriously injured or killed before this gets addressed? luckily my wife and children were not injured, I just hope everyone else is just as lucky.

Unknown Or Other problem #6

A corroded valve stem let gojust after the low tire light came on. This was the first time this has happened. We managed to pull over to the berm and called aaa. The man came out and put the spare tire on and we were able to get home. I checked out the other valve stems and they are corroded also.

Unknown Or Other problem #7

Power door locks fail.

Unknown Or Other problem #8

As I was driving the vehicle, it suddenly shut off. The vehicle was still in motion as it shut off. The steering locked up as thi shappened, therefore I could not even move the vehicle safely to the side of the road. I had it towed tot he dealership and the win module was replaced.

Unknown Or Other problem #9

While traveling southbound on I-75 at milepost 263. 3 a faint alarm of some kind came on. Then the engine began making a noise and quit. When I pulled over to the side of the highway the engine compartment shot flames and smoke from under the hood. I was attempting to release the hood latch when flames burst in through the firewall under the dash. We then abandoned the vehicle and called 911. By the time a fire truck arrived the van was totally burned. I have the vehicle serviced regularly and had just replaced the tires and brakes. I have no idea what the cause might have been but it bears looking into.

Unknown Or Other problem #10

I was going 70 mph on a highway, with my two young children, and I came upon an area where I needed to reduce my speed to 60 mph. As I was putting my foot back over from the brake to the gas pedal my shoestring was suddenly caught on something. I could not move my foot so I quickly used my other foot to take my shoe off. Thankfully I was then able to use my bare foot to get in control of the pedals again. I stopped the van to see what happened and found that there is a clamp of some kind to the right of the gas pedal and my shoestring was caught in it. In my opinion this is a major safety issue because if I had been bumper to bumper in the city when this happened I would have likely rear ended someone. This was a very scary experience and something needs to be done to remove or replace this clamp on these vans.

Unknown Or Other problem #11

Airbag warning light came on and took it to the dealer. The dealer stated that the front impact sensors went bad because the wire harness corroded and caused the open circuit, causing the airbag warning light to come on causing damage to the components.

Unknown Or Other problem #12

2008 Grand Caravan sxt (equipped with a tpms air sensors) - with the change of weather, the low tire pressure indicator light went on. While checking the air pressure of the tires, two (of four) of the valve stem caps would not loosen. When attempting to remove one of the stuck valve stem caps, the valve stem snapped off - instantly releasing all the air in the affected tire. The local Dodge dealership was contacted, parts ordered, and an appointment was made. They are aware of the recurrent problem with these aluminum valve stems/sensors. This is the second time for a valve stem to break on this vehicle. (the last one occurred at 43,097 miles on 11/7/10. ) there is a safety concern with these failed components. We have noticed on the internet forums that this is a common occurrence and should be addressed by Dodge/Chrysler as a serious accident could result.

Unknown Or Other problem #13

Van was sitting in the driveway when I tried to open the passenger side sliding door. Door will not unlock by pulling up on the actual lock or via the power door switch. It's not a power sliding door. Thought this was an isolated incident when I looked online and saw many, many other folks have the same problem.

Unknown Or Other problem #14

The sliding passenger door locks no longer lock automatically lock while driving. They have to be locked manually. This is a safety issue. With children in the back seat, they can now open the doors while the car is moving if an adult forgets to lock them. The lift gate in the back no longer chimes when opening. This is a safety issue. Someone can get whacked with the door, not kowing that it is about to open. The parking lights stay on or come on spontaneously after the headlights have been turned off. This is a problem. Very easy for the owner to come out in the morning to a dead battery and a car that won't start. Some owners have reported the headlights cutting out while driving, a serious safety issue.

Unknown Or Other problem #15

Flywheel cracked at around 102,000 miles causing major jerking of the vehicle when the transmission shifted from first to second gear. I was told by my mechanic that this is a common problem with this vehicle and there has never been a recall. I did replace the flywheel which cost close to $800. 00.

Unknown Or Other problem #16

I purchased a Dodge Grand Caravan new in 2005. Yesterday I had a flat tire and tried to access the spare tire. It was impossible as it was frozen in place. I called my local dealership and they suggested I use a pry bar to free it. I believe this is a design flaw and that many people are driving around believing they have a spare tire while in reality, the spare is inaccessible. I could have been stranded or in an unsafe area.

Unknown Or Other problem #17

The power locks stopped working, I have to reset a fuse to get the locks to work again, but this issue will eventualy come back.

Unknown Or Other problem #18

Air bag warning light is on. Horn does not work. Cruise works sometimes. Diagnosis is clock spring. Review of online info shows repeated clock spring recalls from late 1990s to early 2000s. Vehicle has less than 37,000 miles on it. Airbag is non-functional at this time, as is horn and cruise control, hence a safety issue.

Unknown Or Other problem #19

The air conditioning for the vehicle has needed to be recharged or a/c heater tube for the rear unit has been changed out because of corrosion. Every year the a/c has needed to be recharged because there is no coolant in the a/c system. This has occurred every year for the past 5 years. This causes an expense of $70 to $150 every year. The front core has been replaced to the sum amount of around $750 last year.

Unknown Or Other problem #20

Driver side rear brake caliber mechinism. I has the caliber replaced in March and had new break pads and rotors installed. I drove about less than 3000 mile and had the same thing happen again. In this last episode I have paid out $1300 in just parts, not to mention labor costs, and two $100 tow bills and the problem is still not fixed. I have replaced the entire break caliber fully loaded mechinism and drove 20 miles and had to have the car towed due to the break caliber freezing again. This issue is a major safety issue that could cause death of myself my passengers, and others on the road. I bought this car used to get back and forth to work and family events. I got this car because of it size affordablity for me as a single mother of three living on a fixed income. I thought because it was newer that I would be able to drive it for awhile before major issues would happen. I have only this car a year and have not been able to drive it more than 20 miles before having it towed to a garage since this last issue. I have had the pad and rotors replaced twicew because of it in the last two weeks. This last time I had to tow it to my home as I cannot put any more money into it yet I still have 6 years of payments left. This is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed by the manufacturer. If they cannot fix it than they need to give me a new van.

Unknown Or Other problem #21

Headlight switch on 2005 Chrysler town and country and 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan malfunctions while driving. Extremely dangerous while driving at night. The switch on some of these vehicles seem to be installed incorrectly. There are 4 settings on the switch that when connected will turn on the lights appropriately. In some cases the switch is misaligned and the contact will either not work at all, or, make random disconnections. This is extremely dangerous when driving at night as this is a family vehicle, known to have multiple passengers. If the headlight fail at night, this could be deadly. There have been numerous forums, and blogs describing these issues with town and country, and caravan, and Grand Caravan owners. The failure occurs randomly, and the only way to fix this is to either open/repair the switch, or replace the switch. Currently I am having to flip this switch off and on back and forth until the contacts connect. If it does not work, then I have to drive while I hold the hi-beams on. This is not safe for myself nor other drivers driving toward me.

Unknown Or Other problem #22

Freon began to leak into the cabin of the vehicle after having the ac recharged.

Unknown Or Other problem #23

My husband, 2 year old son, and I were 2 hours away from home on a camping trip. We were driving home on the highway and our 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan shut off. Thank god no one was close behind us and we were able to put the car in neutral and restart it. When I came home, I see they have know about this since at least March, and we have received no recall information. We are now afraid to drive the only car we have, as we are afraid next time, we will get rear ended because of this.

Unknown Or Other problem #24

My 2007 Grand Caravan is burning oil. Currently going through oil consumption test with dealer. Car is burning approx. 1 qt. Of oil every 1000 miles. Chrysler said it is within acceptable levels of usage. Car only has 44,000 miles. Nothing has been done to correct this obvious defect, even though I bought an extended warranty from Chrysler.

Unknown Or Other problem #25

Right side van door stopped closing and opening correctly. It gets stuck part-way. Now it doesn't close properly or lock, you have to work hard to close it.

Unknown Or Other problem #26

My 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan has the front wheel bearings going out. I would like to know why Dodge has no recall on this. The shop were it is being repaired stated that Dodge had a recall on another van for the wheel bearings and they are the same bearings and same part number for my van.

Unknown Or Other problem #27

Was driving on a busy state highway in the rain and drove through a puddle. The serpentine belt slipped off and I lost the power steering, air conditioning, water pump. I was able to get the car in a parking lot without incident, but the other driver would have completely lost control of the vehicle.

Unknown Or Other problem #28

Wife was driving 96 Grand Caravan le to college in the rain. When she arrived in the parking lot steering became impossible to turn so she pulled it straight into parking spot. Looked underneath and saw belt had come off. This happended once before but car was parked in driveway at home. As she started to reverse out of driveway steering became tough and car would not move. It was also raining at this time. This happened early January 2011. Around March 2010, again while it was raining, as my wife aproaced a stop sign the car began to become unresponsive and she had to guide it to the side. Since it was blocking the road police did come by and help push if off the road until the tow truck came to take it to the garage. New belt, idler pulley and tensioner was installed by mechanice. The most recent incident (April 2011) pulley and tensioner was replaced. Don't know if it will solve the problem. Luckily the speed was slow in all instances and no injury or damage was done. . . Yet.

Unknown Or Other problem #29

I have replaced my breaks 3 times since I bought utter and motors 1 time they get very hot and smell like their burning also a possible hub barring is going out on passenger side last but not lease my light on radio is not working as well. I've observed on the web site several Dodge grandcaravans have been te having.

Unknown Or Other problem #30

Car was parked. I had opened door manually. Thought it wasn't fully opened; hit power button on door jamb to open fully. Then leaned against door with left hand and bent over to remove ice tracks from shoes. Door closed instead of opening and before I could react it closed and locked on thumb and severed it completely just in front of knuckle . Sensors supposedly designed to prevent door closing on limbs did not work. Sensors are supposed to prevent this injury, or so I thought. Car has 3 buttons to activate doors: overhead console; remote key & inside door jamb. If sensor does not work power door could activated from any one of these locations by someone not fully aware of activity around door to cause serious injury.

Unknown Or Other problem #31

We have a 2007 Dodge caravan sxt. On two seperate occasion, I was at an intersection, with my foot on the brakes waiting for the light to change, and then the idling of the rpm started to climb very high, and the van started to vibrate, then when the light changed my accelerator pedal would not engage, it was stuck for a good 5 minutes. After which I kept pressing the pedal, and then it finally loosen, I heard a something poping loose when it happened and then the accelerator zoomed so fast when depressed. The second time it happened, same thing happened and then it got stuck again. The dealer service center, said that they could not locate the problem. Has anyone else encountered this type of problem. I know that when I decending a steep hill, I can feel alot of vibration on my brakes. Also my side doors does not open with the handle or the key remote, or overhead remote. You need to play around with the door handle on the outside for awhile before you can get it opened.

Unknown Or Other problem #32

Over the past 5 years, the serpentine belt continously slips off on my vehicle. When relacing the belt, it was noticed that the tension pulley appeared to be bent. Replaced tension pulley and ensure all pulleys lined up. New belt placed on, but when starting the vehicle, it immediately begins to slip off again. Over the past 3 years alone, have replaced upwards of 5 serpentine belts and the tension pulley on my vehicle.

Unknown Or Other problem #33

After hitting approximately 3 inchs of snow/slush in the road the serpentine belt slid off causing loss of power steering. Driver was able to avoid accident and pull to side of road. This is the 5th such incident since the vehicle was new.

Unknown Or Other problem #34

The automatic sliding door on the 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan sxt stopped the closing cycle within 6 inches of being closed. Due to the cycle stopping, the door did not reverse thus trapping a 3 year old between the door and the frame. The driver had to walk around the van and manually push the door open the free the child. The door has not fully closed using the automatic sliding door feature since this occured.

Unknown Or Other problem #35

I have 2005 Grand Caravan with 76k miles. The passenger sliding door stops opening after about 6 inches. Many owners are having same issue. I wish there would be a recall on this. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------.

Unknown Or Other problem #36

My driver side window works intermittantly. It will power down but not back up. It is more severe in cold weather. If you slam the door it will sometimes re-engage the window to work. . When investigating the problem ,many owners stated the same problem. It seems to be the wire harness is being crushed. If you put a block of wood between doorframe and motor the window seems to work.

Unknown Or Other problem #37

1st occurrence: while driving, the engine shut off, 11/13/10. Had vehicle towed to dealer. They replaced pcm "program control module". 2nd occurrence: 3/5/11. Engine shut off while driving. Could not control car, hit a snow bank and cracked front bumper. Had vehicle towed to dealer. They said no codes were issued by the computer. Contacted Chrysler and was assigned a case manager. Vehicle still at Dodge dealer as of 3/14/11. No solution. We are afraid to use the car let alone on the highway. Several u. S. Reports of same problem on internet. Posted problem on autobeef.

Unknown Or Other problem #38

Shortly after purchasing a brand new 2010 doge caravan we noticed there was a significant amount of air leakage through the two side sliding door (non-automatic) and they rattled significantly when driving.   we brought it to the dealer who acknowledge the issue and replaced the latches free of charge under our warranty.   cosmetic issues with the repair job aside, the new latches were not any better and we continue to experience the same problems even after 3+ visits back to the dealer.   the loose fitting doors create problems especially in winter.   both doors freeze shut (this happens weekly) and will not budge even after running the van for in excess of an hour with the heat on full.   the final solution of the dealership was to smear what looked to be large amounts of vaseline on rubber gaskets, bushings, and latches of the sliding doors, which made quite a mess when my kids got into the van. I am uncertain as to the root problem with the latches and door seals. I only know that it presents a serious safety issue not being able to get my kids in and out of the van in the winter time. I am also concerned by the rattling and whistling wind through the sliding doors as we drive down the road. I am concerned the latches may wear to the point of malfunction.

Unknown Or Other problem #39

Electric locks: after 36000 miles and no more warranty on the vehicle the power locks quit working. I found that pulling the battery would resolve the issue for a short while but it would come back again and that doing this could cause issues with how the engine ran for a while and of course the radio and clock would have to be reset. After researching the issue I found that this is known issue and that it would require a firmware upgrade on the vehicle on board computer. The manufacterer nor dealer would do this at no cost. It cost me $85. 00 to get the update. I do not feel this is right and only hope that others will file complaints to get Dodge to correct this and re-imburse their customers who have had to do this. As for me, this is my third Dodge and will no longer buy another.

Unknown Or Other problem #40

My factory installed sunroof has leaked several times flooding the inside of the van with as much as 1 1/2" of water collecting in the console. Water pours out of the electrical console on the ceiling of the van and more seriously the button on the door jams from where the side curtain airbags deploy. Also on to the dash seeping in to electronic stuff inside the dash. My major saftey concern is for electric fires and more important for the airbags(have they gotten wet? has the electrics involved gotten wet? what might that cause?) which I feel may be compromised causing them to malfunction when needed.

Unknown Or Other problem #41

Our rear evaporator does not work. Air conditioning does not work. We only have 48,000 miles on our van and I have read a alot of similar stories regarding this issue.

Unknown Or Other problem #42

Power door will not shut completely or open when button pushed.

Unknown Or Other problem #43

2009 Dodge frand caravan rear brakes failure at 30,937 miles. . An extended waranty was issued for front brakes, but problem with rear brakes have been ignored. My rear brakes required replacement at 30, 700 miles the front braks still have over half the life remaing. . Crysler should be forced to issue a recall.

Unknown Or Other problem #44

Substandard braking system on the 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan.

Unknown Or Other problem #45

2010 Dodge Grand Caravan se shut down with loss of steering control when turning left in to a parking lot. Was able to stop, put vehicle into park and restart with no issues. As with other complaints, very scary if this happens at a busy intersection. Scary enough to mention it to my wife so that if something should happen to me in an accident and witnesses say I just seemed to stop right in front of another vehicle, she will know what the cause of the accident is.

Unknown Or Other problem #46

The power locks on my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan do not work consistently. Just like the many other people experiencing the same problem, I have to take the iod fuse out for 10 seconds, and put it back in to get the power locks to work. Even then, the power locks will work for maybe a few hours, and then they stop working. Very frustrating. This is also a safety concern. Dodge needs to recall these vehicles and fix this electronic/computer problem.

Unknown Or Other problem #47

The power door locks repeatedly fail - I understand this to be a common issue with this vehicle - making it difficult to get access to vehicle from the outside, especially problematic with children in the backseats who have difficulty unlocking the doors manually. Also, the passenger side power sliding door has not been operational for some time. We have also recently experienced a, as yet still undiagnosed, complete power failure in the whole electrical system - this occurred suddenly while the vehicle was traveling 65 mph with the cruise control engaged (it had been engaged for several miles). These issues range from very inconvenient to potentially hazardous.

Unknown Or Other problem #48

I was told by Dodge that we have only had one recall on our vehicle. Your records show 6 and we have never gotten anything.

Unknown Or Other problem #49

It started prior to 29 Nov 06 that my drivers side rear power door when you would shut the door it would pop back open and sometimes not shut at all. It has been to two garages dating 29 Nov 06,11 Dec 06,12 Jan 07, 18 Jan 07, and has another appointment for 15 Jun 07. All of the times it was seen they said they couldn't duplicate the problem or they had changed out a wiring harness. Dodgeland of columbia SC identified the proble of an incomplete door closing voltage. They have been the most helpful. Sumter Dodge of sumter SC was unable to fix or identify the problem. If you notice the dates Dodgeland was able to remedy the problem for about five months and it is now reacurring.

Unknown Or Other problem #50

Dash cover has fogged up some after having vehicle several months. Dealership said something was sprayed on plastic and got behind it and is not a factory defect. Will not be covered under warranty.

Unknown Or Other problem #51

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that whenever it would rain, a puddle of water would appear on the passenger side floor. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of failure. The failure mileage was 25,000 and current mileage was 36,000.

1. Nothing 2. The fan belt on our 2000 Grand Caravan has needed to be replaced minimum of seven times in the past two and half years 3. Our mechanic has fixed the problem, without charging for his labour, all seven times. He has been in contact with Chrysler. After the first couple of fan belt problems, they sent him a kit that repairs fan belts. We still have the problem. Chrysler denies any faulty mechanics on their part. We have the past three faulty fan belts.

Unknown Or Other problem #54

Vehicle (2005 Dodge Grand Caravan) was hit from behind and ran into trees, deploying airbags. Glove box door dropped open and all the way down (past the normal open state), severely injuring the left leg of front passenger.

Unknown Or Other problem #55

My elderly mother purchased a used 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan from the local Chrysler-Dodge dealer in April 2002 and also purchased the powertrain care plus coverage. Not too long afterwards, the dash instruments failed to work, so the vehicle was taken in for repairs. Nothing could be found wrong and we were told to simply "keep an eye on it and bring it in when it's not working. " we took the vehicle in twice more with the same problem -- speedometer, tach, oil pressure gauge -- all not working, but these last couple of times, the check engine light, airbag and abs lights all came on and stayed on. These three times the vehicle was under this extra coverage and all three times, we were told there was nothing wrong! the last straw came on October 13, 2004 when we took the van in for the 4th time for the same problems. This time, we were told there were massive oil leaks which had sprayed oil on the wire harness, possibly causing the failure of the instrument panel. We had that repaired to the tune of over $300. Then we were told that the reason the instrument panel failed was not due to the wire harness, but the body control module (bcm) had failed. It would cost another $500 to have this repaired as it was no longer under warranty. We politely told the dealership service department we'd take the vehicle elsewhere for repairs (we've gotten the quotes, but not had repairs done at this time). It just seems strange to us that the dealership was finally able to determine what the problem was after the extended warranty had expired!.

Grand caravan sports are extremely easy to break into and even easier to steal. A 13-year-old with a standard sized screwdriver is all it takes to gain access and drive off with your vehicle <1 minute. Any accomplices are well-hidden by the privacy glass. There are no "cars of choices" for auto thieves, it's whatever is quick and easy. This accessibility issue is common to all daimler-Chrysler vehicles, not just the caravan fleet. D. C. Vehicles are quickly gaining status as "easy to steal, quick to stash, not to mention an abundant pool of possibilities". . . Expect to pay nearly $3000. 00 (low end) for someone else's joy ride and wait approximately three to four weeks while repairs are made.

Unknown Or Other problem #58

Air conditioning system had to be fixed within 3 years of having the car- which was bought brand new in 2000. We spent over 2k dollars to fix a huge leak and repair the two systems in the car. I (since 2005) am now seeing that the air stops cooling if I idle or we drive for too long, it will no longer blow out the front nor be cool. . . It blows out the top (like the defroster) and is not cooled.

Unknown Or Other problem #59

The problem I am having is that the gas mileage is way off. I am only 12 miles to a gallon and should get aleast 18. I have had in for repairs numerous times and on some occassions they will replace a sensor or a hose. Within a couple of weeks it is back to the same old problem again. Sometimes they say they can find no problem. What do I do?.

Car suddenly begins to idle very irratically & roughly when at a stop light or stop sign even when fully warmed up. The idle air control was replaced on 1-30-02, but car started stalling again on 2-11-03.

Unknown Or Other problem #65

While entering the vehicle my 3 year old daughter sliped into the front drivers seat, I had opened the side door to put her in her car seat and in a matter of seconds she slipped into the opened front door where I had just turned on the ac to cool the vehicle off. When I went to take her out of the seat she graded the gear shift and with me holding onto her and the steering wheel I was dragged by the moving vehicle until we rested upon the fence that surrounds my side/rear yard. She was not injured but I strained my back but did not receive medical attention. I was unaware of the ability of the vehicle to move so easily and was within arms reach the entire time. I have reported the incident to the insurance company but no police were involved.

The on-the column gear shift lever may be placed in park and not lock in the recessed park position so that the lever and transmission may dropped into reverse spontaneously or with very little pressure. My insurance adjuster put the vehicle in gear by push it with a tooth pick. He has a signed affidavit. There are in essence 2 park positions that the lever will register "park" on the led indicator on the dash. One of them is the "true" park where the shift lever actually sits back and must be pulled toward the driver before being allowed to be positioned down into any gear. The other position allows the gear shift lever to register "park" on the led and the transmission is in park while sitting there but any vibration could cause it to spontaneously engage into reverse. In this version of "park" the shift lever is not positioned back into the locked recess. The fact that the Dodge Grand Caravan is wantonly being manufactured without an interlock mechanism, which requires the brake to be depressed prior to shifting, has exacerbated the problem. Had it (an interlock mechanism) have been on the vehicle my wife wouldn't have gotten her ankle crushed, been in the hospital for three days, be facing further surgery and skin grafting as well as permanent disfigurement. There is ar two defects here. A design defect by not having an interlock mechanism installed as well as a manufacturing defect in that the column registers 2 parking positions when only one should exist safely.
