The contact was able to coast off the roadway and attempted to restart the engine but to no avail. The vehicle was towed to a local repair shop where the independent mechanic advised the contact that the engine main bearings failed and the engine would need to be replaced. The contact was awaiting repairs to the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000 and the current was unknown.
The contact owns a 2003 Dodge Intrepid. While driving at speeds of less than 65 mph, she heard a loud sound under the hood and suddenly, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to her independent mechanic who stated that the engine failed. There were no related recalls. The failure and current mileages were under 110,794.

Smoke and fire erupted from under the hood and the vehicle was pushed off to the side of the road. The fire was extinguished; however there were no fire or police reports filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop, upon inspection a rod had blown through the engine causing oil splatter which caused the smoke and fire. The manufacturer was not alerted.
