1 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2025

None of the airbags in the car deployed when I was in a high-impact front-end collision traveling at 45 mph. I was wearing my seatbelt, but the airbags did not deploy. I did not have the added protection of the airbags, so my injuries were much more severe than they would have been if the airbags had deployed. I have 2, possibly 3 fractures in my neck and spine, 2 fractures to the ribs near the sternum, organ damage, necrosis and nerve damage to the right leg, severe whiplash and many more injuries. The insurance company inspected the car after the car accident, pioneer insurance company. There were no warning lights on that would indicate a problem with the airbags. I had been driving that car for years and never had a problem with the airbags. To my knowledge, no one has ever been in an accident in this car that would require the use of the airbags. I expected the airbags to work if I ever needed them and they did not, without warning.

2 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2025

Unknown: traction control light, air bag light, cruis control, horn, are not functioning properly and I believe it is the clock spring. Not sure if it was part of a recall previously.

3 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2021

We noticed the drivers side front headrest was fully extended and had come apart. To be clear, this happened while the car was parked, and there are no signs that our car was struck. There were no warning lights and no reason for it to occur. It had to be component failure. Upon inspection I saw a small piece of broken plastic inside the headrest and I couldn't reassemble it. It looks like a plastic component within the headrest failed and deployed the headrest like it would if there was an accident. Thank heavens this didn't happen while either of us were driving. I did some research and this is a common problem and a huge safety issue, causing drivers to be concussed and, of course, causing accidents. I looked for recalls and to my disbelief, there aren't any. No one has inspected our car but I'm more than happy to have someone look at it. I'm angry that something so dangerous that it would strike the driver of the car randomly isn't being addressed by the manufacturer.

4 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2021

The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Journey. The contact stated the air bag warning indicator light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where diagnosed the air seat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.

5 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2021

A safety recall was made back on 9/7/2017 to jack wolf in belvidere, illinois in reference to the safety recall steering wheel wiring- the inspection stated they installed a wheel wiring and protection sleeve. The light has started to come back on and sound off and stays on. This should have been taken care of properly back on September 7, 2017 - I should not be having this problem again.

6 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2021

When airbags deployed, airbag at foot control panel (gas/brake) deploys moving feet off of brake pedal. This removes emergency control by operator to stop vehicle. Operator tried to stop at intersection after another car failed to yield/ slow down at intersection. After initial contact airbags deployed and vehicle traveled another 50yards until coming to stop in ditch. The lower operator airbag impeded the use of brakes by the operator. Had there been more traffic it would have caused more accidents.

7 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2021

The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the air bag warning light would illuminate intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver’s side seat air bag and wiring harness failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The contact mentioned NHTSA campaign number: 17v432000 (air bags) as a possible solution to the failure however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.

8 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2020

Driver's head rest air bag blew out when no one was in the car. The car was stationary in the driveway. We were just getting in the car and noticed it. That would have turned out very good if my wife was driving. I have photos if they are necessary.

Unknown ,check engine light came on the screen blacked out and began to stall out on freeway doing 55 . Was afraid of getting rearended.

10 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2020

Put car in reverse. Backing out of driveway. Headrest exploded into my head. Popped out about 3 to 4 inches. Pushed my head forward a foot. Car was in motion. No contact with anything.

11 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2020

The vehicle was stationary and turned off, the headrest to the seat was found deployed and the plastic clips broken off. Headrest is not able to be repaired without replacement. The headrest is quite powerful, and if was in the car was in motion when this happened could have caused serious injury or an accident.

12 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2019

The drivers side headrest airbag deployed by itself. No accident involved.

13 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

While driving 20mph and a flat straight road, the driver side headrest deployed without being in an accident and hit my wife in the head.

14 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

Passenger headrest deployed. The vehicle was sitting in the driveway and my toddler was getting into his sit when it just popped out. I took the vehicle in for recalls and asked about it but the vehicle was past it's warranty and since it is not a recall they wanted $600 plus to replace it. Upon further inspection, it was a plastic piece that just broke overtime. Aprox mileage at the time was around 32,000.

15 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2017

Passenger head rest air bag popped out. I wasn't driving and was on the drive way about to leave the house when my daughter and me heard a noise and it was the head rest that had popped out. We were lucky that my daughter didn't get hit by it in the head.

16 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2017

The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Journey. While the vehicle was parked in the driveway, the passenger side headrest air bag inadvertently deployed without warning or impact. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (sunland park Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram, 950 crockett st, el paso, TX 79922) and stated that the contact would have to pay for the vehicle to be diagnosed and repaired. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000.

17 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2017

Vehicle airbags and powder/smoke deployed on myself and my toddlers when the vehicle was not moving.

18 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2017

In an accident where front and back end of the car were hit. Airbags deployed. Manual says that knee airbag is just below steering column. Actual airbag deployed down by feet - directly in line with emergency brake pedal. Since drivers foot was on the brake, the airbag crushed the drivers foot against the brake pedal causing permanent damage to foot. Driver was going straight and in the process of stopping when hit in the rear causing driver to hit the car ahead. It was on a 4 lane city street. 4 cars involved in accident- all going straight at a light. 2 older cars with no airbags were able to drive away. They were the front cars. Dodge Journey was 3rd. Driver of Dodge Journey was the only injury. Getting ready for 3rd surgery. This accident has caused a permanent disability. Driver will never walk normally again.

19 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2016

"takata recall" driving about 55mph, an accident occurred with my Dodge Journey, hitting a guard rail and making the car crash and have a rollover. None of the airbags deployed, causing injuries to the people in the vehicle.

20 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2015

While driving in normal conditions on the highway, the vehicle brakes were applied and I began to loss control of the vehicle. The vehicle then flipped over on its side and airbags eventually deployed. I was taken to the hospital for potential injuries from the incident. No citations were given for the loss to indicate negligence on my end. I believe this may have been resulted from the current recall on the vehicle.
