general problems of the 2017 Dodge Journey

Purchased vehicle from wildcat used cars in somerset, ky on [xxx]. Took home and notified dealership of not having seatbelts in middle row. After having an inspection completed, found the srs system was disabled, airbags removed, knee airbag just stuffed back in. All cables and components unplugged, fuses missing to cause the system to not load up and show the defect. Had resistance from dealership in undoing the sale, until I made note of their mechanics checking off and noting in the carfax that it was "all good" and had be completely inspected. Dealership admitted that they don't check fuse boxes and cables if the lights on the dash aren't illuminated. This is a huge failure of safety. All is on a recorded line from their phonelines from the date range of 4/27/26-5/2/26. All is notated in documentation and photographic evidence. Finally settled and they bought the vehicle back on [xxx] and assured me it would be sent back with the correct salvage title, and it is currently out for resale on their lot as of today 5/24/26. They are fully aware of all the issues. The srs,abs, hvac 40 relays, and the traction control system have all been disengaged/compromised to bypass the system of any issues ongoing. This vehicle was involved in an accident where the srs system has been compromised & I was driving this with my [xxx] in this vehicle for approximately 2 months like this. Passenger head rest deployed for no reason. If someone was in the seat they would have got severe whiplash. It was a broken plastic piece inside the headrest. This is a common occurrence. There were no warnings. I kept the part in case it needs to be inspected. Definitely a manufacturers defect that needs to be addressed before someone gets hurt.

The car lost power and wouldn't speed up. Could have been rear ended. We had the abs light come on,the traction control light on, the air bag light on and a few more I didn't recognize they came on and went out so fast. Had to pull over and restart the car.

Was hit by another vehicle in front driver wheel which knocked me off the roadway. During the collision I kept hitting the brakes and the car wouldn't stop. I had no control over the steering as well. My car then hit a fence. My airbags never deployed with extensive damage to the front end of my car. Because of the airbags not deploying I hit my head on the steering wheel causing injury as well as my knees hit the dashboard.

In June 2023, the air bag light came on intermittently. In July 2023, the air bag light came on and stayed on (no longer intermittent.

I have been getting airbag alert on dashboard since car was purchased in 2017…would go away and come back on here and there. The headrest in passenger side deployed while driving!!! ridiculous!.

Light has been illuminating every few days, it will ding when it comes on then stay lit for several days. Not sure if the wiring under my passenger seat is loose or whats going on.

During the incident the vehicle rolled over 3 times and the front end and sides were severely damaged but no side curtain or front airbags deployed. During the crash the driver sustained a injured chest and hearing lost, the front passenger sustained neck, back, head and right shoulder injuries. A police report was taken at the scene. The cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 80,000. Jft.

I was driving straight when the vehicle 2 cars ahead of me slammed on their brakes at a green light. I rear ended the car in front of me going approximately 45mph head on, causing major front end damage. Neither of the front airbags deployed. The car was totaled.
