5 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

I have a 2009 Journey sxt, and the transfer case blew at 12,000 miles due to bad oil at factory, I thought "odd but okay". At that time I was informed I needed brakes and rotors. Again I thought odd and questioned why I needed both, it was explained to me that the rotors are so thin that they have to be replaced when replacing brakes. Under warranty but not for brakes about 2 months katerina got the recall after they put the same [xxx] brakes and rotors on there that was recalled so imagine my surprise when I had to get them done again at 35/40k to which I had my dad do them and picked out the brake shoes myself. So I drive it for a while another 20k and again I need new tires and brakes and an alignment. So 2000 later cus having "size 225/55/r19" there is only one manufacture and tires are 250 each. Now I am used to having new tires and you rotate them every other oil change and that's it untilyou get up there in mileage again. Not so - 3 weeks later I was back in there because I kept loosing tire pressure well on tire had a nail in it - which they didn't tell me they just said the tires look great they checked them for leaks and found none. One week later I was back in there as tires are loosing air once again. To which they tell me they will reveal them just this once free of charge and I need a new tire as the patch (that I didn't know about) on sidewall blew out. Okay now I am thinking good should be all set but then the dealership told me I had a cracked valve stem and for them to fix it will be another 200. Now when I pay 250 per tire I expect that the valve stem would be replaced and a new one put on. Again nope!!!,!,!!! so very other day we have to put air in my tires. Except one day the valve stem cover came right off and now my car sits. When buying vehicle I was told full sir spare nope again just a donut so if anyone knows why a valve stem would not be replaced when tires are I would sure appreciate some answers. . . . Thanks Journey running me over information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

6 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2010 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 08/04/2012

I was driving and my tire blew out, I was told that it was because the tire pressure monitoring system was corroded, cracked and split in half. Upon checking of all my tires, all of them are cracked and corroded. On the tire that blew the stem was totally split in half. This is a huge safety issue, they changed to plastic in the 2011 Journey's. We bought the car 1 1/2 months ago as a certified used car.

8 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

9 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 05/22/2011

I have a 2009 Dodge Journey and the tire (while not in motion) tire went flat. Found out the sensor for the air pressure is the issue. This is a hazardous to every owner. What if this would have happen w/ other passengers in the vehicle especially my baby. This could have resulted in a horrific accident. This vehicle should be recall w/ some other alternative measures for the sensors. I understand all four tires have sensors and this can happen at any time.

10 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 03/08/2011

My wife tried to take the cap off one of her tires to put air in her tire. As she was trying to twist the cap off, it blew off of the tire and hit her in the face. I took the tire to a shop and they said that it was the wheel sensor that the tip corroded off. They replaced the sensor on that tire and then went to check the pressure on the other tires. When they tried to take the cap off of another tire, the end of that tire sensor also snapped off. My wife's vehicle is a 2009 Dodge Journey with 34,000 miles on it. When I called the service department of the dealership where I bought the vehicle, they said that the sensor is not covered under any warranty when it breaks off at the tip llike that.

11 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 02/21/2011

A week ago my tire pressure sensor light lit. Found the passenger rear tire was very low. Added air and the sensor light went off. A few days later the sensor light came back on. Checked the other three tires first and all were ok. Went to check the passenger rear and the cap was seized. Tried giving it a good twist and the stem broke off. Dealership won't cover the costly part under warranty because it the stem itself was broken off. I've heard of many problems similar to this and they were covered. I think my dealership, danbury Dodge of connecticut, just sucks! I'll never go there again! I should have known it was trouble when the sales manager shook hands on a deal and then had the nerve to come back and raise the price due to an "addition" error. It all adds up to bad customer service!.

12 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 01/08/2011

We purchased a used 2009 Dodge Journey with 41,000 miles on it. The low tire indicator light was on, which the dealer assured us was due to cold winter air. 10 days later a tire went flat sitting in the driveway. I changed the tire to the donut spare, took it to a tire store, and they explained that the tpms device had broken, which had allowed the tire to deflate. They checked the other tires and 3 of the 4 tires had broken tpms devices. The mechanic indicated they saw similar problems with lots of Dodge vehicles, especially in winter. The tire store did not have the parts they needed to fix it right then, so a regular valve stem was placed in those three tires as a temporary fix. The mechanic indicated that the tpms devices in the other two tires were so broken that any sudden disturbance, such as a pothole, could have caused them to lose pressure very quickly, and that this was a definite safety hazzard.

13 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 12/27/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated the tire pressure sensor gauge had broken on the vehicle. The stems on the front passenger side and the rear passenger side had also broken. The failure was caused by corrosion. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told this is a known problem with the vehicle, and that is why the 2011 was changed to a brass stem from cast aluminum. The failure was 39,000 and the current mileage was 45,000.

14 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 07/31/2010

I just purchased a 2009 Dodge Journey at royston Dodge in morristown TN. My family and I were driving down the highway and the tire pressure sensor went off. I noticed that my right front tire was low and when I started to inflate it the valve stem popped off in my hand. This would have been a definite fatality.

15 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 06/05/2010

Tire pressure monitoring system on 2009 Dodge Journey. Valve stems have metal threads at end that were broken prior to purchase of vehicle. Dealer working to replace, but have been told there is a large number (approx. 20,000 on back order) and it is unknown when parts will be available. Apparently, this is a common problem affecting Chrysler/Dodge vehicles. I currently have three tires that I can check air and add air as necessary, but difficult with broken valve stems. On the fourth tire, the threads are completely broken and missing making it impossible to check air pressure or add air. The tire monitoring system continually warns of low air pressure - dealer says it is a malfunction and to ignore. Parts availability is an unknown. Safety of vehicle and occupants is questionable with defective system.

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the tire pressure monitor valve had fractured on each tire except the front passenger side tire. After the first failure, the dealer repaired the vehicle. After the second failure, the contact called the manufacturer who stated that the parts for repair were on national backorder. The vehicle was eventually replaced. The vehicle had not yet been repaired after the third failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000 and the current mileage was approximately 35,000. The VIN was unavailable. Updated 02/09/lj upadted 03/03/11.

17 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 01/13/2009

I own a 2009 Dodge Journey, within the last month my wife and I have both experienced tire blowouts. The problem comes from the valve of the tire snapping off and immediate loss of air pressure. These incidents have taken place in the winter. This is a very dangerous matter that needs to be followed up. After the first incident 12/12/2010, I took vehicle to my mechanic who put a rubber valve on till I could vehicle into dealer. The second incident took place 1/13/2011. I called the Dodge dealer told him about what had happened and scheduled an appointment to have valves replaced, when I asked if they would replace other two valves I was told they would have to contact talk to Dodge. Dodge said it would pay for damage to tire this should be an immediate recall when your dealing with safety.
