Brakes not braking uphill dash lights not lighting when have issues like low fluids or oil drive train light comes on power steering makes kind bump noises when turning transmission studders in reverse or switching gears.
The wiper relays went out recently and somehow caused the door locks to beep and go crazy then die completely. And a few weeks ago the brake came undone somehow and fell into the wheel well, ripping the inside of the rim open causing a blow out while my wife, 2 year old and I were on the freeway. And now after taking it to 2 different Dodge dealerships, the problems are not fixed, there is more warning lights on than I've ever seen. And so far both places have told me they fixed an emblem on the steering wheel, and that the other recalls aren't applicable because of being a 2007 and the recalls are for the 2008. Even though my Nitro is obviously having the same if not worse problems. All the way down to the emergency brake not working, we love our Nitro and Dodge as a company and would please like some kind of help with this situation. Our vehicle is our only source of transportation and it is not safe for us to be driving, especially in the winter conditions we just got hit with here. Thank you for your help to whom this may concern. Here are some pictures of what happened with the brakes, thank the lord we were getting off the freeway when the brakes gave way, if we had been on the freeway 15 seconds more, the accident would have been fatal without question.
My parking brake has not been holding my vehicle and this time it about ran me over and put my grandson in the lake! something must be done about this! this is a safety problem and needs to be addressed. The date for when this happened is the most recent. It's been intermittently since I got it and nothing was ever found wrong. . . .
While driving the vehicle on the interstate it will just shut off. No lights on dash or warning. When this happens you have no power steering or brakes. After getting it stopped and restarting it will drive fine. Other times the remote will not work the locks, it will lock and unlock by them selves after you open the door and try to start vehicle . You can put the key in the ignition and it will not start lights on dash will go off and on and after a few attempts it will start. There are times you can not put in in park you can shut it off and restart it press brake pedal and nothing works to put it in park and then it will just go in park like nothing was wrong. All of these things happen up on occasions with no warning. It all will work fine for weeks or months and then it will act up again. The heater does not blow hot air on one side, every year you can flush out heater hose and radiator and it will blow hot air for a month or so and then it will go back to only blowing warm air out on one side. No codes are ever thrown when the things happen. There is never a warning and when you take it to the dealership or a mechanic they can never find anything wrong with it.
Breaks have gone out twice now and I have been told its because of me running with my emergency brake on. Not true and I have had to replace all breaking system. Cruise control does not work while on hwy took it to dealership 3 times and they said it works. I have had electrical issues with window motors and wipers along with cruise control.

The contact also indicated that while pressing the brake pedal to stop, the vehicle would not immediately stop and the breaking distant was extended. Vehicle just died going down the road electrical quit, engine quite, power steering and power brakes quit working.
When backing up vehicle hesitates . When speeding up on the highway vehicle bumps like transmission is coming out of case like it is pushing car forward. When stopping at high speeds vehicle steering wheel shakes and car squeals coming from left front brakes. While driving down the road vehicle pulls to the right. When at a stop light rpms go all the way down like vehicle is ready to stall.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro. Th e contact stated that the emergency brake was not working properly intermittently. The contact used the owners manual to bypass the transmission lock out feature. The vehicle began to roll forcing the contact to apply excessive force to the parking brake and the brake pedal at the same time; to ensure that the vehicle came to a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the drums needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the failure recurred. An independent mechanic also diagnosed that the parking brake handle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was scheduled for inspection, diagnosed and repaired by an authorized dealer. The contact was not included in NHTSA recall campaign id number: 13v121000 (power train) and had an automatic transmission the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000. Dyd rk.
The emergency brake never worked like it should, even when new, the electric window switches and power door locks work when they feel like it, and the inside door handles break for no reason other than poor workmanship and poor choice of materials (plastic) rendering them useless. These are all known problems for years with Dodge Nitros . They should be forced to recall them for these reasons, especially because they are all dangerous. It's like the money pit. Dodge wants $150. 00 per door just to repair the handle assemblies. Are they kidding me? who makes a door handle out of cheap plastic? we take care of this vehicle like its a new car, and never abuse it. It has only 60,000 miles on it. The first door handle broke with 30,000 miles. Dodge had better do something before I no longer own this vehicle or I will cross them off my list for good. I have no problem going back to Ford and staying there. (or Hyundai for that matter).
Esp can not be shut down completely. The problem I am having is when I need to pull the boat off a slip, it activates when wheels spin or begins to slide applying the rear brakes aggressively. Also when I am in 4x4 and spinning in the mud it also does the same resulting in almost getting stuck or getting stuck, which makes me use 4x4 more often then not. I have contacted dealers and Dodge about this issue but they say its integrated into the abs system and can do nothing about it. I have gone through several rear brakes and rotors due to this issue. All I ask is to change the modes on the deactivation from 70 percent to 0 percent.
The emergency brake ratchet assembly is broken. There are no replacement parts available in the united states and I was told there 77 customers waiting for the part ahead of me. This is one Dodge dealer in the united states. The safety issue is that when parking on any type of grade ti transmission could slip and allow the vehicle to roll out of control. Additionally with out these part the vehicle will not pass the pennsylvania annual safety inspection.
My Dodge Nitro is not able to pass safety inspection due to non-working parking brake. Mechanic inspected rotors and drums. Everything looked okay. Problem seems to be too much slack and brake handle but no way to adjust. I have seen a lot of complaints about similar problem; even a recall but only for manual transmission Nitros, mine is automatic. I feel a recall is warranted.
Nhtsa complain report. Done on 08082810 at 754am Dodge Nitro 2007, engine stalling when wet or just after raining - it happen already more than 10 times, went to dealer and they reprogrammed some electronic component, problem went away for a while. But now, not only car stalls, meaning engine shuts off but also the esp/bas, abs, and the skidding car icon lights all are on, suddenly brakes started pulsating when driving probably at about 30/25 mph, decided go back home before getting into the freeway which speed limit is 60/65, so after reading recalls at NHTSA official web page I am going today to the dealer for those two problems, and other one I found in same web page, thanks to the people that works for NHTSA for giving us all this information.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro 4x4. The contact stated that the electronic abs control module caused a delay in braking when coasting uphill. In addition, both rearview mirrors exhibited a blind spot. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 73,700.
My 2007 Dodge "nitro" brake pedal goes to less than one (1) inch of being hard on the floor. On presenting this problem to the local Dodge dealership, their response was that they could show me a 2008 "nitro" with brake pedal the same way. My constant concern is whether I will be able to stop the vehicle safely at all times. I certainly paid for brakes and feel I should have received brakes that are safe and dependable. I reported this condition when I first purchased the vehicle, and told this was normal.
Back break lights go out continuously. I have had them replaced several times while under warranty. Lights are still going out but now my extended warranty is over. Dealership said they would have to run a diagnostic test before they could find out what is wrong. This is very concerning because it is a documented problem since the first year I purchased the car in 2007 and the problem still exists. My rear windows stopped working, had to have them replaced which I found odd because I hardly used the back windows. Driver's side handle has snapped in half. This makes for a safety issue because I cannot get out of the car without rolling down the window and then unlocking myself then roll up the window before turning off my car. Also, the power window control has snapped off as well for controlling the front passenger window. I'm concerned I will be trapped in my vehicle if I continue to lose power functions to the car. Heating unit works sporadically. Took it to local mechanic he fixed it. It worked temporarily and then stopped. Called dealership and once again was told that they would have to perform a diagnostic test; which is understandable if this was the only problem, but unfortunately this is not.
