general problems of the 2011 Dodge Nitro

Date of incident: 05202021 speed: vehicle parked/driving 30 mph mileage: 110000 vehicle horn sounded numerous times on own. Vehicle parked and key not in ignition. Vehicle also sounded while in on position at stop light and in on position while driving 30 mph. Vehicle does this on own without prompting and can only be stopped by disconnection of the battery.

After dealership removed the emblem from the steering wheel due to the recall, the horn would start to blow on its own for no apparent reason and stay on. It would shut off and then a few moments later start to blow again. The dealerships answer was to disconnect my horn and send me on my way. I am now driving in a vehicle that will not pass the required state inspection. It is also a safety hazard!! the dealership informed me that until the parts came in to finish the recall on my vehicle I would have to drive my vehicle this way. This is a serious safety issue!!.

The alarm goes off for maybe 1 to 4 seconds at any time it's parked and the horn blows time to time without me touching it while driving.

3 weeks after having my 2011 Dodge Nitro detenator would stick between gears, at both slow and high speeds and I was burnning through gas way too fast. Nissian found my tansmittion oil to be black, I paid for flush and told it was good to go. Next day the car died, the throttle body indicator came on, this was fixed, still burning through gas! couple weeks later now it sounds like a disel engine idle, I can not afford all these problems. I found several owners of this car have had same problems along with electrical as I have had as well, my electrical system cuts out randomly and a few times my kids and I have smelt what seemed to be that of burnt rubber or something. Im very displeased and upset with my purchase.

The interior door handle broke. I have been researching forums and it has happened a lot. I also called Dodge customer service and they gave me your number.

Found an issue with the internal check valve in the fuel tank & filler neck the evap system is operating correctly & not restricting the filling & vent system recommended replacing the fuel tank, fuel filler neck & gas cap.

My 2011 Dodge seems to have an electrical issue. I am unable to use the defrost, or air. Each time I turn it on the engine begins to run hot. Also my windshield wipers turn on when I start my engine, but they were not engaged. This happens wen the vehicle is turned on and stationary as well as when in motion.

The wind shield wipers come on and wont turn off and none of the lighting controls work , high beam, on /off, dash controls. . . This happens randomly.

2011 Dodge Nitro gasoline fill spout and fuel tank is affected part. Every time I fill up the vehicle with gasoline it spews out of the gas tank all over me and the side of the SUV. I've contacted Dodge and they say there is no recall. I contacted the dealer I bought it from and they claimed to have fixed the issue and yet it persists. This is dangerous and hazardous to my health. There needs to be a recall fixing this issue.

The first sign of issues was in September, one morning after my car had been locked all night like always, the car alarm on the vehicle just sounded. I ran outside and unlocked the car then locked it again and went inside, I went back and forth multiple times, each time after locking the vehicle the alarm would sound within five minutes, I proceeded to turn on the car, I had system warnings present stating my trunk was unlocked. I closed the trunk multiple times but the warning never subsided. I had to leave the car unlocked while parked until I took the car into the dealership later that day, the mechanics could not replicate the "gate ajar" warning, and the car alarm system problem couldn't be fixed that day. Two days later, keeping my car constantly unlocked, I took my Nitro in for an evaluation, I left with a copy of the diagnosis, after the hour they hooked my engine up to their computer they still were unable to tell me what was wrong. The next day after 5 hours in the shop and $708. 00 Dodge reprogrammed the tipm and replaced my spark plugs. The car problems were solved for two days, then again my car alarm went off while locked, the gate ajar warning also comes on randomly. I made an appointment to bring it in one last time, the day before I brought it in I was driving at 65mph and the car just shut off without warning. I had to remove the keys and jumpstart, the car was okay until later that evening when the dash computer started flashing random warnings while driving. Today my car was in the shop for 10 hours, they reprogrammed the tipm again, and the mechanics have no fix for my car. Every issue I am experiencing is that of the vehicles recalled in the Chrysler tipm recall, Dodge refuses to refund or replace my tipm and state that my VIN was not affected. I am in a rental car for the night, tomorrow I have the option of taking the car home as is.

While driving down interstate with 3 passengers including a toddler the keys fell out of the ignition. The truck lost power and steering abilities. When the truck reached 20mph I noticed the keys were not in the ignition. I grabbed them, handed them to my husband. He put truck in neutral, started truck. This happened again at an intersection about a month later. I udually only have truck key and or a house key on a single ring. Please consider testing vehicles for this possibility and the deadly probability.

Mid Nov. 7:45am while driving I noticed a low roar like the Nitro was stuck in first gear but it wasn’t, sound continued and the car was not picking up speed. I turned into a parking lot, waited then turned it back on and went to work. At 2:30 the dash thermometer said “120 degrees” I have the temperature on my phone so I know it was 80. I choose to ignore it and not take it into the dealership because I didn’t want to make a big fuss and I needed my car. Wed, 3-12-14 7:50am I was driving the 2011 Dodge Nitro to take kids to school. It turned off while turning, my blinker stopped working and there were not lights-on on the dash. The wheel was very stiff, I rolled to park along the curb. I put the car in park and turned the key to start the car and it started. Big safety concern so I chose to bring it in for service since. I took in into the dealership at 8:10am that same morning. Bustter torres checked in my car. He said he could not “duplicate” the problem and could not figure out what caused the car to stop while driving. . Fri 3-14-14 7:55am I was preparing to turn right, as I was approaching I had my blinker on and my car turned off as I was about to turn into the drive way. I was able to turn my wheel (the steering wheel was very stiff) and roll into the driveway. I noticed there were no lights on to indicate anything, I heard a click when the car turned off. I then turned the key to start the car and the car started fine. Car sat at dealer for 4 days without service because employee messed up and did not create a new work order. Not apologetic, made excuses when confronted. Had wrong mileage, employee just guessed. We had to argue to get them to check actual mileage. Horrible customer service all around, no respect for us as customers. Car still not repaired, car is a lemon.

My windshield wipers come on in and won't turn off. It happens when I turn on vehicle and wont turn off unless I pull out the fuse for them and leave the fuse out for while. At the same time the problem starts with the wipers, my blinkers won't work at all. I haven't been able to find a quick fix to get them to work again, unless I disconnect my battery and then reconnect it. That doesnt always fix the problem though. Both of these problems happen periodically, every so often and at random times. It's happened atleast 20 times now.
