Adaptive Equipment Problems of Dodge Nitro

Dodge Nitro owners have reported 4 problems related to adaptive equipment (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2012 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 04/06/2015

We were notified that there was a recall on our Dodge Nitro. However Dodge has made it as difficult as possible to have this recall corrected in the hopes you won't take your vehicle in and they won't have to spend money or time correcting the problem. In order to have a our vehicle recall corrected we were told that we had to bring in our vehicle in Monday through Friday so it during normal working hours so it could be inspected. After they inspect it they tell you there is a problem and you will have to make another appointment Monday through Friday during normal working hours. This now requires you to take off time during work twice but you are also without a vehicle for the entire time they decide they want to hold onto it.

2 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 08/20/2014

On August 20th, 2014, I noticed that my power door locks and front windshield washer pump had both stopped working. Looking this up online, I saw that there were numerous complaints with the tipm system for my Nitro as well as other Chrysler models. Since the repair costs were estimated at more than $1000, I decided to go without getting this repaired for the time being. Today, while heading into a local supermarket, I noticed a horn beeping, and turned around to find that it was my Nitro! the horn was going non-stop, the wipers were moving and the washer fluid was spraying out continuously. I ran to the car, embarrassed I moved it to the back of the lot, where two men helped me try and pull fuses out of the tipm unit, in an effort to get the horn to stop. We finally found the right ones, but the wiper pump had to be unplugged as it wouldn't shut off. What a coincidence that this happened to me, after reading numerous stories of the exact same thing happening to other people who own Dodge Nitro's. If Chrysler does not take responsibility for this defect, not only will I never buy from them again, I will tell everyone I can to never waste their hard earned money on a Chrysler product; that's bound to have a negative effect on their sales.

3 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 05/13/2014

I am original owner of this vehicle. It is garaged , well maintained, and serviced by dealership. There is no history of abuse, or auto accidents associated with this vehicle. The interior drivers door handle snapped off in my hands yesterday, while attempting to exit the parked vehicle. This is a considerable safety concern. Only exit is through an electric window, due to large console between seats. I have contacted doge, and due to mileage (79k) and age (2007), they offer no assistance in fixing, so I will have to pay at dealership. I have seen enough complaints in various forums of this same issue, to warrant contacting you. This is not cosmetic, but of vital concern to driver safety. Please consider further action with a view to recall , so that manufacturer will proceed rectify this dangerous flaw. Thank you for your consideration.

4 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 06/20/2012

Drivers side front door handle snapped while trying to exit the vehicle. I had just purchased the vehicle (used) and asked about it being replaced and was told that it was not covered. I was told it would cost about $300 to replace (the handle was only about $70, the rest was labor). I did not feel that I should have had to pay for this expense and I did not have the "extra cash" at this time so I opted out for repair. A year later, the front passenger door handle snapped while trying to exit the vehicle. I refuse to pay for this unacceptable defect. This is a life threatening hazard and needs to be recalled.
