Four problems related to vehicle speed control have been reported for the 1997 Dodge Ram 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While sitting at a gas station on a slight incline vehicle rolled backwards about thirty feet and collided with a fuel pump. The fuel pump was demolished, and fuel flooded the immediate area. Vehicle suffered scratches, a bent bumper and several dents.
It jerks when lightly accelerating.
Engine surges at idle; also pulls to one side or the other when braking.
At ten thousand miles the vehicle began to surge, idling from 700rpms up to 1200 rpms. Vehicle is accelerating without warning. Problem will occur when stopped at a stop sign or sitting in park. Consumer pulled into driveway, parked and the vehicle began to surge up to 1200, nearly went into the wall of garage. Consumer will provide VIN. # at a later date.
