11 problems related to brake disc pads have been reported for the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have just over 36,000 miles on the truck. I am on my third set of pads for the front and have replaced the shoes once. In addition, I've had the drums and rotors turned. The dealer responds by charging me to adjust the rear brakes. I have had this done but continue to eat up the front brakes. The manufacturer changed to bigger pads and rotors shortly after my truck was made but dealer & manufacturer are not responsive. Also, the rear antilock doesn't work right.
Brakes have never worked correctly, very spongy, have had into shop twice for this at worl thompson, caldwell, ohio. Brakes are very weak and have been since purchase. I had to replace front brake pads at less than 50, 000 miles. I really have to push hard to stop.
Brake pads wore prematurely at 18000 miles. Thompson Dodge who is doing the work said Dodge will pay for parts but not labor which will be 100. 00 labor. They also informed me the new pads are of a better design and should last between 40000 and 50000 miles under normal conditions. 75%of the 18000 miles on my truck are highway miles so I feel that the pads should not have worn out so soon. I that Dodge should reimberse me the 100. 00 that I paid out of my pocket for labor. Dodge's decision on this matter will dictate if my next vehicle purchase will be a Dodge product.
The front brake pads required replacing at 16,000 miles, 8,500 miles before suggested maintenance. At 35,975 miles the front brake pads and rotors required replacing. Dodge informed me this was normal wear, not within warranty and not considered a problem. They did not inform me of the TSB already released stating the known problem of early wear on front brake pads.
