The dash on my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 has cracked to the point that there is barely any left. I feel this is a safety issue because the broken pieces could fly at someone and cause serious injuries. Also upon impact the dash could have further pieces break off and cause damage.
The dash started to crack in this time frame and continues to crack into pieces which may fall into the housing. These pieces are sharp and in an accident could easily break away and cause bodily harm. This is a well known issue with the dash and also the black cover in this vehicle spanning a number of years. The plastic is obviously sub standard and defective. It is not only a cosmetic issue but a safety issue in that futher damage could occur from further deteriation of the defective materials.
Driving at approx. 25 mph an a residential street, I hit a pothole. The dashboard, which was badly cracked as a result of manufacturer defect, suffered catastrophic failure, collapsing in pieces. The bezel fell forward, obstructing the gauges, and two pieces fell near the pedals. I was able to pull over without further incident.
This is my second Dodge ram and again my dashboard is cracking a big chuncks are falling thru the dashboard. My first Dodge did this, but I though it may be because I failed to keep it protective from the sun, but the Dodge I have know has always been parked in a garage or under a carport and I make sure and keep protective cleaner, sun of a gun, on it frequently. I do feel that someone legal needs to get involved in this and make Chrysler/Dodge recall this and pay for it. These are not cheap trucks and the engines are very good, but the dashboard makes the truck looked ragged. I have several friends with the same complaints on their Dodge trucks.

Like thousands of other Dodge ram owners, I have a collapsed dashboard in my 2000 model ram. The truck is in absolute perfect shape with only 45,000 miles. . . Except for the shards of plastic that cut my wrist when I was retrieving a paper off the dashboard. I sure never thought I would be injured while sitting in a stationary truck in my driveway. Surely it's not a safe situation to have a collapsed dashboard over so many electrical wires and air bags.
For the last few years I have watched my dashbord slowly deterioate. It started with small hairline cracks that have evolved into huge cracks. Every bumb causes the cracked sections to cave in, requiring me to lift those sections with a screw driver. I take very good care of my truck, cleanin and polishin it twice a month. I receive compliments from people telling me that my truck looks as if it was just drivin out of a show room except for my dashboard. I'm terrified to think of what might happen if some sharp pieces were to fly in my or my passengers eyes in the event of an impact. ( please) bring this matter to Dodge's attention, lets not wait for a statistic to make us think, yea, we should have done something about it.

On hot day, a vertical crack formed in dash during normal driving conditions. This crack is very near the passenger side airbag. At the least this could cause a rip in the airbag during deployment. At the worst this could cause the airbag to malfunction all together.

This is developing into a safety hazard as the pieces will get loose in case of an accident but also the dash holds the passenger airbag. Other people claim electrical failures also (dash lights, brake lights and head lights) in conjunction with a caving-in dash that make me scared driving this car.

These aren't little holes they consume most of the dash itself. As many complaints as there has been on this problem one would assume that the manufacturer would have the courage to back their products cause it is obvious to the working man that this is not an individualized problem but a serious epidemic. While the holes are not causing any problems right now except for continuing the joke war, people laughing cause we can't keep our Dodges together, but what is the chance that some of this broken material will get down and hurt other components or even the safety components. Something needs to be done about this. Chrysler needs to step up already and recall their faulty craftsmanship.

I have a 2000, Dodge Ram 1500 pu. Several months ago, a crack began to appear in the dash. Yesterday? I went to reach for some mail I had placed on the dash? and the pressure of my hand caused the dash to shatter and two large holes to form. With the pieces falling down inside the dash. I have attempted to hot glue the remaining pieces, to prevent further collapse. I have subsequently talked with someone who tells me? that this is a common and known problem with Dodge ram trucks. I'd like to know what can be done about it? and whether Chrysler has owned up to the problem and taken measures to repair the damage caused by a known defective product.

Not only is this a cosmetic issue, it also poses a safety concern in regards to the airbag (located in the dash). I have contacted daimler Chrysler regarding the issue and got no where since a "recall" has not been issued. I feel that someone needs to look into this closer and require a "recall" before someone is seriously injured! thank you for your assistance.
My 2000 Dodge rams' dash has broken into multiple shards of plastic, some 12 inches long. This is the second time this has happened. The first dash lasted approx. 4 years. The replacement lasted less with a carpet dash cover. The shards are dagger shaped and dangerous especially when you have small children.
The dash board on my 2000 Dodge pick-up is cracked,this started on the passenger side near the windshield and also near the vents about 6 months after I got it. I now have a small hole where it started on the passenger side and around a 4x5 inch crack on the drivers side that looks really bad. My dash is all broken up also. I also had it replaced once while it was still under warranty very very poor design. My first new vehicle. How disappointing.
Severly cracked dash board and leaking heater core as a result.
I am reporting a bad dash board in my truck. I first noticed two small cracks that appeared down by where the windshield & dash meet. This remained for a few months then the dash started spider webbing. The entire dash is now cracked & laying in the bottom. There are huge gaps in the dashboard. I tried resolving this through the dealership where I purchased my truck & was told this was never a covered item & received no assistance. I have recently learned that Dodge is no longer making these dashboards & are not available to purchase for replacement.

Around June of 2003 I started having cracks in the dash and I took it back to crystal Dodge for repair but they told me that it was no longer under warranty and it would cost approx. 1500. 00 just for the part not including labor. So I did not get it fixed. Last week I saw a report on local new channel 6 out of orlando referencing the same issues that I have been experiencing with my dash and they recommended e-mailing this report. I hope Dodge is going to be held responsible for the repairs of this growing problem.

I own a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab. Over time the top dash has been crumbling to pieces however now it has completely collapsed in. This concerns me because I have looked for recalls on poor manufacturing for this and have found none. Now the instrument panel is rattling around and I'm concerned that it may fall in my lap while driving down the road as I have read several complaints of this happening. I have looked into replacing it myself but the cost is ridiculous and I feel that Dodge should have to repair and replace their own poor quality dash. If this isn't enough now the plastic hinges snapped in two which made that fall off the dash. Please help not only me but other Dodge owners get what they have rightfully paid for, not poor quality manufacturing.
