Four problems related to wiring have been reported for the 2000 Dodge Ram 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Potential safety issue. When the engine quits, power steering is lost. With the small steering wheel and low gear ratio, extreme effort is required to steer. The Dodge 2000 Ram 1500 pickup also has a computer for the engine. This has caused the engine to shut down suddenly and steering became extremely difficult. This has happened three times Dodge has not been able to determine if the computer or the wiring is at fault. To replace the computer costs $750 with no certainty this will fix the problem. Chrysler/Dodge has not been willing to assist.
The "check gauges" indicator alerted and the oil pressure went to zero. The vehcile sputtered and the engine stopped. I found out from my mechanic that the engine had siezed and would cost $5000. 00 to repair. I have already had two transmissions replaced at a cost of 3,300. 00 and cannot put anymore into this defective vehicle. 2000 Dodge1500 ram 4x4.
The entire top dash is cracked and the dash around the gauges is also cracking. It rattles pieces are starting to come loose and expose wiring. It is a safety issue due to sharp edges and flying pieces in the event of an accident, some may be smashed into someone's face by the airbag. This has been getting worse over time.
Transmissionwould not work at one point heard a loud bang and transmission started working again about a month later transmission started to screech and lock up causing rear wheels to lock up. Headlight switch defective or a short in the wiring have to beat on dash for lights to come on. Also a/c fan clutch locked up. Built ram tough is a bunch of crap.
