Four problems related to brake master cylinder have been reported for the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The brake line leading to the driver rear tire is severely corroded. The entire line from the master cylinder to the wheel will have to be replaced. My 16 year old daughter was driving the truck when the brakes fell to the floor. It leaked the entire contents of the brake fluid out. The breaks did still function but barely. Enough to get it home. She was on a busy street in traffic when the brake petal went to the floor.
Master cylinder has gone out now twice in the last year while driving. Completely lost brakes twice. Had to have fixed at a garage.
While braking master cylinder failed. Consumer managed to pull over, and had the vehicle towed.
Truck brakes continue to go soft. The dealer(s) have worked on the brakes. Changed master cylinder. At low speeds the pedal goes to the floor, but not every time. Now the brakes are simply slow to engage. Feels like you are going to put your foot through the floor. Of course, the dealer has only been able to replicate the problem once! any other reports of problems? solutions? not comfortable driving the vehicle. Have had to take the shoulder several times to avoid collisions. Just started the legal route since Chrysler has been less than cooperative.
