The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that friction material has built up within the transmission cooler and has burned the transmission. The contact was driving 50 mph when the transmission suddenly failed. The vehicle was towed. The current and failure mileages were 50,000.
With no warning, the transmission on our 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab pick up failed. It was during a turn in an intersection and power was lost and then surged. Fortunately, on-coming traffic was able to avoid a collision. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer where we were informed that no recalls were issued and that it was only covered under a 36,000 mile warranty (our vehicle had 56,000 miles). The entire transmission had to be rebuilt and the mechanic informed us that it was caused by a pump failure. The cost was $3200. We contacted daimler Chrysler and were told that they didn't see a transmission failure as a safety concern.

An engine warning light came on my 2001 Dodge ram so I took it to dotson brothers Dodge dealership they told me it was the transmission and that they had a service bullitin the problem was that during manufacturing a plate with a hole to small to let fluid to pass though was installed this causes the tourque converter to lock up and become damaged they told me that it would be safe to drive this was on wed Feb 2 on tues Feb 8 I was coming home from work when the transmission failed reducing my speed dramaticly I narowly missed being rear ended luckly the car behind me was able to swerve around me after sitting with the truck in park for a few minutes the transmission engaged and I was able to continue home.
2001 Dodge Ram 1500, transmission failure started at 45,000 miles. Had to replace the transmission at 53,000.
While driving the vehicle the automatic transmission failed. The dealer indicated don't fix it just get a new vehicle. Please provide further information.
Total transmission failure, no slipping no warnig, truck just would not go had 60000 miles this caused me and my mother and little child to walk on dangerous highway for help. Repair cost 1800.

Consumer called complaining about having problems with transmission. Also stated that on March of this present year that transmission had fail and now on December 2002 the transmission has problems again. Dealer was contacted and stated that the warranty was for 36000 miles and is now out of warranty so they won't do nothing about it. Mr.
Transmission prematurely failed, causing vehicle to die on road. Vehicle had to be towed to dealer. Dealer will replace transmission. Prior to incident, consumer noticed cruise control light came on.
