13 problems related to wiper have been reported for the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Dodge is aware of this issue. They have updated the part and there are many customer paid repairs. The control box for the heating and a/c system is defective and breaks at the blend door. When this happens, the blend door no longer works and it disables the defroster and a/c. On cool or cold days, the windshield can suddenly fog up and there is no way to clear the view as air does not blow in that direction. On hot days, the system can not push air out enough to keep the driver from excessive heat. The part number is 68004226ac. This part has been supersession chain of about 4 other numbers as Dodge corrected design flaws over the years. I would also note that because this involved a/c and heating, many people do not notify NHTSA of the concern, but it is very well documented and known. It is a very common problem that causes driving issues without being reported.
At first the wipers would stop randomly (while driving in a rainstorm) but I would fiddle with the switch and they would normally come back on. In the last week they basically quit working altogether other than a random stroke here or there. I replaced the wiper/signal control switch on the steering column yesterday thinking it must be worn out. To no avail, the wipers are not working and after researching on the internet, I find that it is a very common problem. People are replacing parts, spending money at service centers and not getting the problem solved. I live in the rainy northwest and I can tell you that it is a big safety issue not being able to see in front of you while navigating I-5 at 70mph at some random point during a trip. This problem started over a year ago but was always a momentary thing and would resolve itself, but it is now a permanent problem and I wish I knew what part replacement would resolve it.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle's ac unit would jam when an attempt was made to switch the unit to or from defrost. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnose to be the blend door actuator and the unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also referenced recall 09v158000(visibility) however the vehicle's year and VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 110000. Kh.
In driving rain, and on a major highway, the windshield wipers suddenly stopped working. I had to repeatedly turn them on in order to clear the rain from the windshield. There was a recall for this very defect and for this year vehicle. I called Chrysler, but its customer service person, dennis, refused to honor the recall, claiming the VIN wasn't included. He also, magnanimously, offered to "reimburse" for the expense "if the recall is expanded. " unacceptable response and obvious, blatant lack of concern for safety, and especially for this vehicle which it knows has this very defect.
After owning a Dodge 1500 2006 mega cab for 4 years had to replace the multi function switch it stopped working had no wipers high beams or signals. 5 years later have the same thing happen seems like an on going problem with these switches. When the don't work make it a safety issue due to no wipers, signals, or high beams. . .
Defrost won't work. Heat works on floor and vents. I understand from on line forums that this is an on going problem with these trucks. I feel this is a safety issue and this need recall. Someone is going to get hurt or killed some day because of this.
Blower blend doors/ defrost doors that send airflow to windshield for proper visibility. Outside air doors that allow frigid air to mix with air being delivered to windshield allowing for freezing of moisture in air on windshield. Doors failed due to defective inferior plastic materials being connected to drive motors. This failure is prevalent among 2002- up ram pickups from my research online. Company responded that this was not a warranty issue. Please see below for correspondence with Dodge [xxx]: thank you for contacting the Dodge assistance center. Tl - the contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, he heard a loud clunking noise. The contact mentioned that the heater became defective causing the the air to go towards the floor board and the windshield to frost blocking his visibility. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 84,000. Pm.
The windshield wipers just stop working. It would occasionally work at times but it wouldn't correspond to the correct speed. You can put the wipers on the fastest setting and it will only work on the slowest setting or just work intermittently and sometimes not work at all. This seems to be a common problem with other owners of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 and maybe it is a defective control module or defective fuse box.
While driving towards flagstaff at night in the rain, the wipers went off. After I pressed the wash control, the wiper function, washed the window and wiped it enough to allow us to pull over. The wipers continued to work sporatically allowing us to creep to town for the night. Now, they do not work at all and we are waiting for the repair service to obtain back ordered parts. This was very dangerous and we were fortunate to have avoided a serious accident. Surely this function is a safety issue.
My 2006 Dodge ram truck turns on the wrong turn signal, for instance if I am making a right turn and I push the stalk up, the left turn signal turns on. This is an intermittent problem and sometimes my turn signals work and sometimes they do not. I also have the related problem that I have no control over my windshield wipers. When I turn them on, they will stay on for minutes at a time on a high speed and not turn off. Other times they will only go one or two times and shut off completely while it is pouring rain.
When driving trying to change lanes I tried to signal right and my left turn signal came on then the turn signals were alternating back and forth. This has been happening on and off for quite a few years it will start working again then later break again.
This first started a few years after I got the truck which I bought new. Occasionally when I would turn on my left turn signal, the right or both would come on. This would also make my windshield wipers not function correctly. Dealer replaced the multi function switch. Same thing happened 3 more times over the next few years. Now its happening again. I have narrowly avoided 2 accidents because of this happening. Next, the heater/ac only works through the defrost vents. In the summer when using ac the windshield starts to freeze on the inside. Causing visibility issues. Also when using heat or ac the tachometer bounces around not reading correctly. All these electrical problems concern me. Just waiting for the truck to catch fire going down the road!! Dodge has not been much of a help. $300 a piece for multi function switch. $800 to fix the heater. And they can't figure our the tachometer. I have sent videos of the tachometer messing up, complained about the milking function switch. But nothing. All these problems definitely affect the safety. Please help. Lots of other people have the same problems.
