The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving at approximately 40 mph, the rear wheels seized and prevented the vehicle from functioning. In addition, the wheels unlocked independently. The contact mentioned an abnormal noise was heard from the rear of the vehicle while driving. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the pinion bearing was loose and the rear axle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 13v038000 (power train) before the failure occurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000.
