My 2012 ram1500 st 4. 7 liter has the 9. 25 rear differential that was in fact common for that year model too have the loose pinion nut recall my trucks VIN is [xxx] for confirmation after doing some research on the symptoms that could potentially be causing this problem include but are not limited to a whining sound coming from my trucks rear end that gets louder when accelerating and noticeably changes when decelerating and vibration that is noticeable as well which is commonly caused by this defect my information was coming from reputable sources I came to the conclusion that they matched up perfectly with this recall however when I called the dealership to schedule an appointment to get the repairs done they told me the VIN did not line up with the dates when it was manufactured to be considered apart of the recall I was surprised by this so I dug deeper into this issue only to find there was conflicting results some saying the VIN did in fact match eligibility for this recall and not eligible to recieve repairs they the customer support rep also explained that in order to determine if it would be covered I would have to go to them in order for the technicians to diagnose and verify the cause for the issues followed up by saying they would not know if my truck did infact qualify for the manufacturer to cover repair costs if it did not qualify I would have to pay for the diagnostic analysis which amounted to the tune of 300-400 dollars which I found to be unreasonable and due to my financial position due to the fact that I am being medically discharged from the army and will be out in no later than 2 months from now 3-4 hundred is alot of money givin my situation however the main take aways from my complaint are 1. Everything points to the symptoms my truck is having points to the issue lining up with the recall2. My trucks year make model and rear axle that was directly effected by this issue3. My conversation with them seemed like I hat to go to the information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2015

While on my way to work traveling downtown in a busy and trafficky business district in which acceleration is vital, upon attempting to merge with traffic at general traffic speed the transmission stalls and I nearly get rammed from behind. Fortunately the driver behind me noticed it in time & though my vehicle did not completely stop, it stalled enough to have cause a serious accident. I had noticed the stalling before, but not so significant. I have talked with customer service at my dealership & they have scheduled me in for a service visit in the very near future. Having mechanical experience, I'm apt to believe that something is going awry in the power train. I just acquired the certified pre-owned vehicle a few months ago and it has less than 82000 miles. Hopefully my dealership will address the issue accordingly & fairly, guess I'll know soon enough.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the driver side tie rod was worn prematurely, which caused the tires to be worn. In addition, three security locks and the studs and bolts fractured on the front driver side tire without warning. The suspension on the driver and passenger side tires was unstable and the steering wheel was extremely loose. The contact also indicated that the wheels were locking in the rear, which indicated a drive train failure because the bolts also fractured in the rear. The vehicle was taken to three different dealers for inspection and diagnostic testing. The contact was provided with conflicting information from the dealers and was waiting to determine how the manufacturer was going to remedy the failure. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 13v038000 (power train), 12v474000 (power train), 13v528000 (steering), 11v350000 (steering) and 10e040000 (wheels). The manufacturer was notified of the failures and provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was 29,000.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2014

While driving at 60 mph the truck failed to downshift for an incline on the highway loosing momentum. I depressed the accelerator pedal to the floor and nothing happened. At this point I signaled to move onto the shoulder while the truck continued to lose momentum. When I turned the steering wheel, it was difficult to move as if I had lost my power steering too. The brakes worked and I stopped on the shoulder. I placed the truck in park and back to drive: nothing happened. I placed the truck in park, turned it off, waited a couple minutes and restarted. The transmission and steering now worked. At no time did any warning light appear on the dash. I could have caused a significant pile up on the freeway during rush hour. Since no warning lights appeared on the dash--how do I know what happened--or more likely, how will the dealership find the root cause for this failure. This behavior is dangerous and unacceptable for a 2 year old truck with less than 15k mikes. I use my truck to sometimes pull a horse trailer. If this incident happens again while I am towing the outcome will be disastrous. I am now scared to drive my truck.

I was on vacation in smokes going up a hill . I was behind a slow moving car about 25 to 35 mph. When all the sudden my truck starts slugging. It was like it didn't know what gear to get in. It would go high and start jerking then low. Their was a car behind me so finally I just stopped in the road to let the one in front go on. It felt like the transmission was going fall out of the truck. Now it does it just going down the road . I can push the peddle 1/4 way down and it does not respond . It shifts in to a higher gear to soon this transmission in these truck need to be recalled before someone get hurt or killed. You never know what they going to do. Guess its the cause of the vibration at 60 to higher also. I took it to dealer today and they said its all normal . How can it be normal when it was not doing it when I first got it. Guess that is their answer to every problem makes their day easer. We the people of ram owners need help . Can anybody help us we pay to much for those trucks for them to ride like that. And for our peace of mind knowing that we are controlling the truck not the transmission . 23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2012

When driving in the snow and slush roads, when the truck turns to the left, the front wheel kicks up snow and slush towards the transmission. This results in snow packing around the shift linkage. The result is the inability to put the vehicle into park. It happened to me 3 different times during the snow storm that night. I had to crawl under the truck to chip away at the build-up of snow and ice. This would seem to be a bit of a safety issue to me. I made several calls to Dodge in reference to this and they haven't heard about it. I have heard of it happening to several other people as well. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.
