Three problems related to cruise control have been reported for the 1999 Dodge Ram 2500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While driving my father's 1999 Dodge 250 diesel pickup at any speed between 35 and 65 mph, the cruise control would not disengage when brakes were applied. Engine raced and attempted to maintain cruise speed. Accident averted by switching off cruise control. Event duplicated many times under safe and controlled conditions. No maintenance performed yet. Dealer contacted but unaware of this failure scenario.
Cruise control on vehicle will surge 10-15mph over speed at which it is set. In one instance the unit had been holding a steady 55mph for approx. 10 min. And began climbing through 65 before it was caught and disengaged. This surge behavior appears to be low-temperature dependent as it ceases in the summer and re-occurs in the winter.
When cruise control is set engine accelerates to a higher speed. Driver has to apply the brakes in order to slow down. Dealer can't find a solution.
