Six problems related to ball joint have been reported for the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
On October 25, 2015 around 11:00 am while driving 65-70 mph on the PA turnpike near allentown area (some minor road defects appeared to be in the roadway, weather conditions good) the vehicle violently shook as if all the tires were basketballs. Had to hold onto steering wheel as best as I could from all the shaking while applying brakes but the vehicle would not slow down. This is the fourth time this has happened with this vehicle after. We checked with the Dodge dealer to see if there were any recalls on anything similar and they told us no. So we began replacing tires, shocks, steering shaft and steering box, front stabilizer shock, left front ball joints and u joint, new brakes and rotors all the way around and the ones we took off were still very new looking, service station wanted to know if we wanted to keep them, we said no. The first time it happened was almost in the same area as 10/25/15 while travelling to tennessee so we did not travel over 60 mph, then again travelling back to PA, this was when we changed out the aforementioned parts, the third time happened while our son was driving 60 mph on route 33 in easton, PA. There has to be something seriously wrong!! I just thank god my husband was driving because I would not have been able to get it under control. . We would appreciate it very much if you could investigate this issue. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the steering wheel and front end of the vehicle began to shake violently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the four tires were rotated; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was currently being diagnosed by an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 29,000. . . . Updated 03/24/14 the consumer while driving between 55-60 mph if he hit a slight bump in the roadway or approaching a bridge where the bridge pavement and the road pavement was grooved, the vehicle would shake violently to the point, he was unable to control the vehicle. Also, the consumer noticed power steering fluid leaking from the steering box. The consumer believed it was due to the violent shaking that the pitman arm and the stress put on the ball joints and steering rods. The steering wheel would shake in his hand. Updated 04/01/14.
When hitting a small bump with the right tire the whole front end began to shake uncontrolably with difficulty steering. Had to bring the truck to a complete stop on the side of the highway. There was a semi right behind me that had to swerve to miss hitting me while I tried to control the vechile. Dodge has said there is a death wobble and are aware of it, but no recall at this time. Also Dodge told me that it was a manufacure defeact and I could pay to have it fix. Have already spent 1800. 00 dollars replacing ball joint, tirieds, bearings. Etc and still has the death wobble and unable to drive or sell due to the danger of accident.

I was driving a 2006 Dodge powerwagon down the road between 60-70mph. After hitting a bump on highway or bridge overpass, major shaking and wobbling in the front end. Known as death wobble. Accurs everytime in the same spot and everytime at the same speeds. The first time it happened I was driving and hit an uneven part in the road and the death wobble occured. Violent shaking and I hit the bridge wall. Called the dealer, they said the linkage had a recall. Took it in. Adjusted. Still same problem. Had all ball joint and tie rod ends replaced, all bushing, both shocks up front, steering stabalizer and alignment done. Still the same problem.
Out of control bouncing of the front axle on a 2006 Dodge ram 1500. We have replaced the tires and increased the tire pressure. I have been told by mechanics that the ball joints on these trucks are faulty and will need to be replaced. I have talked to multiple mechanics and Dodge owners the problem is wide spread and known by the dealerships but Chrysler/Dodge has not done anything about it.
