40 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

Steering has horrible vibration and wobble at 19 mph. Seems to be getting worse. Have already replaced two steering gear boxes on 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel. Still not fixed. With recent news on Dodge rams; I am surprised they have not looked at this model years as well as many model years are having same issue. Beginning to be nervous driving the vehicle and the history of this issue with other models and really afraid the shaking is so serious it will eventually cause a wreck or loss of life. This is the 3rd report from me already. Also taken it to Dodge service center and they just peered under the truck and said everything was good. Didn't even attempt to test drive and see for themselves. I have even attempted to notify Dodge corporate last year when it started and not even a return call or message. Feel trapped and lost. Please look at these model years as well. Already had recall h46 conducted and they just told me it was not a problem. Now I have another recall n62 and never got a notice for it; just happen to look up recall notice. VIN is 1d&ks28c36j214020 I think this steering is more widespread and would want further investigation. I am going to take Dodge in for n62 and r25 recall and I bet the dealership will just peek at it and tell me nothing is needed, as always. No more trust in Dodge, please help.

52 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

Hauling a goose neck trailer empty to new mexico, suddenly the truck began to shake violently in the famous "death wobble" of these vehicles. I scheduled an appointment with the dealer and they found the whole front end need to be "updated" to the bigger beefier suspension. This happens often enough that Chrysler has created a whole kit for doing this upgrade. My vehicle was not consider in need of the recall replacement just four weeks prior. The service writer strongly suggested I have the vehicle in for a full inspection of the front end but never told me while inspecting he knew the front end was a safety hazard. It is obvious to me that nthsa has stepped on the end of its pecker limiting the recall to one style of front end rod. This is an engineering and materials defect of the truck. Worse it is a very dangerous defect. Nthsa needs to expand the recall to include all Dodge trucks without the beefier front end suspension.

57 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2014

Received safety recall notice n62/NHTSA 13v-528 indicating a recall against my truck. Traveling in southwest us and contacted nearest dealership in las vegas nevada. Dealership inspected my truck and determined my truck required the kit to fix the defect. The dealership did not have the kit and in fact was receiving only one kit per week from Dodge. And they had a waiting list of 60+ vehicles. Contacted the other local dealership with similar (50+ waiting list) results. Called Chrysler customer assistance per the recall notice. The agent called several cities along my planned travel and each Dodge dealer had the very same situation - 50 or more vehicles on the waiting list, with an expected delivery of only one kit per week from Chrysler. At this rate, it will take me a year to get a safety defect fixed. I am now on the waiting list at the Dodge dealer near my home and I am approximately number 58 on the waiting list. Problem: sufficient repair kits are not available to correct the n62/NHTSA 13v-528 safety defect. And current kit delivery indicates this situation will exist for more than a year! my safety is at risk!.

69 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2013

Chrysler case# [xxx] 11/23/2013 up to this point, I had no prior indication that there was a problem with my steering. I was towing my 20' single axel trailer bass boat and noticed play in the steering wheel. At washington and the 710 we heard a loud glunk, as if a piece of metal snapped in half. Just (s) of bandini the truck veered from slow lane into traffic and a total loss of steering occurred. On Monday 11/25/2013 I contacted Chrysler and spoke with a lady named [xxx]. I described what happened with my vehicle and she instructed me to bring it to a local Dodge dealer. She went on to say she had included notes in the system that would inform the service department of my problem. Spoke with [xxx] service consultant and was told that I had already brought my truck in for this recall, I believe he said the date was 3/2011 and that the recall was complete. He went on to say that there are no recalls on my vehicle and he just wanted to make certain he got paid. I contacted Chrysler for the 2nd time and was informed that there is nothing they will be doing to assist me with this matter. She stated that the recalls for this particular problem haven't went out yet, therefore the public has not been notified. I explained the severity of the situation, but she was not accepting any responsibility for a Dodge truck losing total control of the steering, due to design failure. Tuesday 11/26/2013 1:00pm I received a phone call from [xxx] . He said he had spoke with Chrysler and they were not responsible. He informed me that the steering box is the problem and if I had any questions, Chrysler would like to speak with me. This is a very serious matter and Chrysler should be very fortunate that a serious accident didn't occur as a result of their faulty steering box. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

70 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2013

11/21/2013 5:00pm while leaving lake castaic, I noticed abnormal excessive play in the steering of my truck. I was towing my boat and I attributed this to possibly being tired after a long day on the lake. I pulled over at calgrove exit off the I 5 to visually inspect my tires and anything noticeably wrong with my truck. Everything checked out ok, so I reduced my speed and took precaution. Just prior to bandini exit (s) 710 we heard a loud bang and without warning my truck veered into traffic. The wheels were locked when attempting to turn to the right and the wheel would turn freely to the left, without turning the wheels. I happen to be a very strong individual and it took every ounce of strength to maintain stability and avoid an accident. A person with less strength, would have never been able to control my vehicle. Total loss of control of a full size truck, while towing a boat on the 710 freeway is a terrifying experience. With a stroke of luck and a blessing, I was able to maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder and safely exit the freeway. I have since been informed by cerritos Dodge , service advisor daniel moreno that that the steering box broke resulting in total loss of control. I contacted Chrysler and they informed me that they are not responsible and will offer no assistance with repairing my vehicle. I was told the repairs would cost $1,689. 00 and I would have to pay this amount and then contest Chrysler for reimbursement. I had my truck towed out of cerritos Dodge and currently sits in my grandmother's driveway.
