general problems of the 2013 Dodge Ram 2500

Six problems related to engine and engine cooling have been reported for the 2013 Dodge Ram 2500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2014

When driving this vehicle there is a very strong smell of diesel in the cab and coming from the ventilation system when stopping. The fuming is very strong and extremely worrying. I have been sickened during these fuming events. The smell is not unlike charcoal lighter fluid vaporizing but not igniting. I believe that these fumes are deleterious to health and pose a serious danger to public safety. The common unqualified wisdom is that it is a 'regeneration process' taking place, but it does seem to be a dumping of raw fuel and this is vaporizing into the ventilation system, the only things that helps a little is to turn off the a/c off, and switch of the fresh air, use the recirculating air system, open windows. This is the only thing that can be done when you cannot stop the truck and get out for fresh air. My research found many reported cases of this. It seems to be a concern among many Dodge (Chrysler) ram owners. The manufacturer will not admit there is an issue and the dealers hold fast that its not a problem and is 'normal'. Whatever this is, it is not 'normal'. The suggestion of just using 'recirculated air' is a nonsense. This must not be allowed to go on, someone is going to get seriously injured, or themselves and someone else killed from this gassing issue. This issue should be subject to a redesign and a recall on these affected trucks. Irrespective of the processes taking place under the hood, higher egt's, regeneration mode etc. These processes should not affect the health and wellbeing of the vehicle operator. I am imploring the odi to investigate these issues and reported cases, Dodge must respond to odi and they must be made to resolve these issues to the satisfaction of the odi and owners alike. Chrysler and the Dodge ram marque are responsible and liable for their products and faulty engineering. .

2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

While driving my 2013 Ram 2500 crew cab 4x4 (VIN 3c6ur5fl4dg535461 ) I was on an onramp headed onto the highway and I tried to accelerate from roughly 10-15 mph to highway speed because of the short on ramp and heavy traffic. The truck refused to accelerate at even a moderate speed while the accelerator was fully depressed. I ended up having to pull over to the shoulder because I was not able to gain any speed due to what I believe was some kind of electronic program preventing acceleration. I tried to research online for some issues other people may have been reporting and found people referring to something called torque management being there problem. I want ram to fix this issue because it is a true safety issue which prevent necessary acceleration in real world driving situations.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2014

During normal driving when turning or changing lanes and trying to accelerate rapidly to merge into moving traffic, the truck will stop responding via accelerator completely. The traction control is on, but not active during this effect. Basically anytime I accelerate rapidly from a stop the truck does not respond and leaves me dead in the water.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2013

Vehicle exhibits an accelerator 'dead pedal' problem. When pulling out into traffic, or slowing then accelerating, if one lifts the throttle then reapplies the throttle quickly, the truck does not respond for several seconds. In heavy traffic, this can create (and has created) a potentially dangerous situation. This has been an ongoing problem that the dealer has been unable to resolve.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2013

Dead pedal from complete stop, dead pedal off and on the throttle. Safety hazard!!.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2013

There appears to be two possibly related issues with regard to the powertrain. The first issue is some sort of backlash in the drive train when accelerating to 30-35 mph and then letting off the gas. The system seems to shift gears before the torque converter unlocks. The second issue is that when accelerating from a stop there is a significant lag in response between the engine and the pedal both in accelerating and decelerating. This can cause an issue when pulling out into traffic. Both of these relate to the bcm and the electronic throttle control. Multiple visits to the dealership have not solved this issue.
