Hood Latch Problems of Dodge Ram 2500

The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500. While driving approximately 45 mph, the hood flew up and struck the windshield. The dealer was notified and stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 01v040000. Updated 05/13/08. (latches/locks/linkages:hood:latch). The current and failure mileages were 110,000.

1) the vehicle was being used to tow a 16' flatbed trailer, with the purpose of picking up a load of hay. The trailer was not yet loaded at the time of the incident. 2) the hood of the vehicle flew open while the vehicle was being driven down a state highway, creating the potential for a serious crash. The ring into which the latch hooks came free of the vehicle, causing the failure. 3) to date, the local dealer and Dodge (daimler Chrysler) have declined to act on the complaint.

While driving 25 mph the hood flew up without warning. As a result the windshield was shattered. No impact reported. The dealer stated the secondary hood latch had failed.

While driving at 40 to 50 mph hood flew open, blocking consumer's sight, truck went to right. Consumer had to stick head out of window to see, and vehicle went into a ditch. Consumer could have killed someone.

Consumer received recall notice, contacted dealer for setting up an appointment for the recall but still has not heard from dealer regarding recall, the dealer stated they would call consumer back to let her know if the part was available.
