Headlights problems of the 1998 Dodge Ram 3500

Four problems related to headlights have been reported for the 1998 Dodge Ram 3500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2006

Plastic headlight lenses have become cloudy in my 1998 Dodge Ram 3500, reducing the amount of light substantially. The dealer where it was purchased wants to charge me $186 to replace them. This is a safety issue. Dodge used inferior materials in the manufacture of the truck and they should replace them free of charge. They are familiar with the problem, so it is not an isolated incident.

2 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2003

While traveling at night, both headlights would go out. Dealer notified. Ph.

3 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2002

The contact owns a 1998 Dodge Ram 3500. The contact began to notice a burning plastic smell from the headlight area when the headlights were turned on for an extended period of time. The failure occurred five times. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership but no repairs were performed; the failure was repaired by the contact. The current mileage was approximately 220,000. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

4 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2000

Three times within past year; may/ November 2000, and may 2001 headlights/ dashboard lights went out while vehicle was in operation. Dealership has examined vehicle, and could not determine cause of this defect.
