The failure would prevent occupants in the vehicle from being protected in the event of a crash. The dealer stated that the VIN was excluded from NHTSA campaign id number 01v119000 (seat belts:front:retractor) and they would not assume financial responsibility. When the contact entered her VIN on the manufacturer's website, the output stated that her VIN was included in the recall. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 64,000. Updated 5/5/09 the seat belt retractor did not extend over the passenger. The seat belt retractor was frozen so the belt can't be released.
