1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2021

60 miles from home after a 2,000 mile camping trip the truck suddenly stopped. Traveling north on highway191 in yellowstone park the dash lights started to flash and the truck died. I was barely able to pull off the narrow road. Emergency flashers didn't work and there was no cellphone service, snow was falling and trucks barely able to get around us, we feared for our lives. I opened up the hood and smelled burning plastic, the tipm was melted in spots. Finally a kind motorist stopped to see if we needed help, 20 miles further down the road he was able to call a towing service which took another several hours to get to us. We were towed to a Dodge dealership in bozeman where it will be another2 weeks before they can get it in.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2017

Tipm (totally integrated power module) failed, causing vehicles engine to stall at 75mph on freeway. Condition resulted in a "no-start" scenario. Because of this failed tipm, the onboard diagnostic computer has no power, resulting in an inability to diagnose with obdii scan tools. This situation could have resulted in a possibly fatal accident, as the vehicle was in motion at 75mph on a major freeway with moderate traffic. When the vehicle stalled, all power steering and brakes were lost. These parts are prone to failing, but Chrysler refuses to accept responsibility. An aftermarket replacement is available at the price of approx. $600, but these parts are special order, and take several days to receive.

Failure Date: 11/18/2016

As I was traveling the highway, my engine starting smoking. I was extremely fortunate that I was coming up on a service center/grocery store in idaho. There was indication on my dash instruments that my truck was operating abnormally, other than the smoke sifting through the hood. Upon my pulling over onto the the side, I opened the hood with used of heavy gloves and a towel and checked to see if radiator had fluid as the indicator light had read normal. As expected, coolant spewed out. I immediately closed it and waited for it tobe towed into idaho falls to be checked by a shop that I was familiar with.

Truck died in middle of road, truck would not start . Son towed truck out of road to parking lot. Truck, started again ran 3 days. Pulled out of parking lot , the truck accelerated out of controlled hit brakes a few times and truck died again in middle of road. Started again , truck moved 10 feet and died . Tipm (totally integrated power module ) has failed. Unexpected acceleration scared me considerably. Less experienced driver or my wife would have got scared and crashed.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2015

Totally integrated power module has a short causing the right side parking lamps, marker lamps, and right side taillight to blow the fuse every time it is changed. As soon as the lights are turned on, the fuse blows within seconds.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2015

Loaded at 18000 lbs gvw while towing a tandem axle trailer the vehicle died. Upon losing all electrical power the engine died causing the loss of power assisted brakes and power assisted steering. Fortunately the speed of the vehicle was around 5 mph. I'm 6 foot tall and over 200 lbs and I was unable to steer the vehicle to the side of the parking area. Upon leaving the vehicle I immediately smelled electronics burning. I opened the hood and immediately disconnected the positive post of the totally integrated power module (tipm). I then removed the tipm to find a hole burnt through the side and the circuit board covered with black soot. I had the vehicle and trailer towed to corbin ky where there were no Dodge dealers willing to work on a vehicle of this size. Nor would they store the trailer for me while conducting the repair. I choose to have the vehicle and trailer towed over 600 miles to my home in michigan. I called my local dealer whom took the VIN number to order an new one. After over 2 weeks waiting on the tipm (which turned out to be remanufactured) the truck is still not operable. If I had been travelling at interstate speeds with a loaded vehicle I likely would not have survived this incident. Prior to this happening I had many issues with the lighting on the truck. The low beam on the passenger side would be inoperable while the drivers high beam is the only one that would work. Also, the taillights would stop working on one side and the turn signals would flash quickly. Not seeing this as a huge safety issue I simply took it the dealer to reflash the tipm. After getting it back with half the lights inoperable, the ac didn't work anymore. Now the vehicle is worthless and all sense of security and safety is gone. I can no longer confidently take my family anywhere in this vehicle.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2011

Electrical fire on computer modular and fuse box causing vehicle to try to start and moved on its own about 150 yards. Key was not in the truck, it was parked. When discovered lights were on and windshield wipers & washers was on. Batteries had to be disconnected to shut down truck. If truck had not been found when it was it would have burnt to the ground. Truck was towed into dealership three weeks ago. Dodge is blaming this problem on the installation of utility bed which was done three years ago by spillards in austin, TX. Which has been installing beds since 1987. We are getting the total run around from Dodge! Dodge has now replaced the computer modular and now claims both batteries are burnt up due to this problem. This is a safety issue on this truck. It could have created a wreck or killed someone when it went out of control.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2007

2007 Dodge Ram 3500. The same issue as with the 2006 model is still present. The multi-function switch malfunctions. Left will flash right. Wipers become in-op. This seems to be the same issues with the last investigation, file number pe08059. When I call the dealership to get a replacement part, they are on back order. The dealer has a problem with keeping the part in stock but denies that there is a problem. This problem appears to be intermittent at first and later becomes permanent. It is helpful to other drivers when you signal left that your left signal illuminate and not the right. And visa versa.
