Dodge Ram 3500 owners have reported 23 problems related to headlights (under the exterior lighting category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I purchased headlights from carid for my 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 in December 2019. The headlights have shadows causing dark spots and a hazard. In the interim, I purchased led bulbs from the same company to rectify the problem, but the led bulbs will go dark periodically. Carid will not exchange the headlights for another brand, nor return my money, so I can purchase safer headlights.

I bought this truck new in 2011 but I have been deployed to afghanistan for the last 1. 5 years and the truck sits in the shop most of the time. My wife kept telling me on the phone that when she has to drive our truck at night it was like the headlights were not even turned on and she can not see the road at night . I drove the truck on my r&r and I will say the truck has some very very poor headlights. It's like a headlight is out or something but they both work. They are bright but the beam is not focused or something, I could hardly see at all driving the truck at night, they don't shine any distance down the road. If you drive more than 50 mph you are out driving the headlights capability. I googled 2012 ram headlight issues and there is a ton of complaints about how poor the headlights are on these trucks.

The contact owns a 1996 Dodge Ram 3500. The contact took the vehicle to an authorized dealership for a throttle cable repair March 2010 but the dealer only replaced the throttle cable and no other required parts that would keep the cable from failing. As a result, the cable became loose twice after the repair while the contact was driving at approximately 35 mph. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership. The dealer replaced the failed throttle twice. The contact then took the vehicle to a local repair shop as the dealer was not able to correct the problem. The mechanic at the repair shop informed her that the failure was caused by the throttle rod ball, the ball stud, throttle cable stud, the throttle rod thread (left and right) and the throttle return spring. In addition to the throttle failure, contact stated that the headlight repair performed June 2009 did not correct the problem; the headlight plastic and switch melted even after the repair. She called the manufacturer and filed a complaint; the manufacturer explained that the throttle failure was not due to a manufacturers defect but instead to the dealers poor workmanship. The failure mileage was approximately 221,010. The current mileage was 221,061.

mid 90's Chevrolet lumina sedan
I was traveling northbound on yellowstone road behind a mid 90's Chevrolet lumina. I was traveling behind them at or below the posted speed limit of 55mph when the lumina signaled to turn right and braked; as soon as they braked I began to brake just as a precaution. They then proceeded to pull all the way past the white line onto the right side of the road with their vehicle being completely situated on the shoulder with their right turn signal still on at which point they where approaching a driveway on their right side. I did not accelerate and then I saw the Chevrolet's front wheels begin to turn left at which point I turned left as hard I as possible. They were making in illegal u-turn on a state hwy with double yellow lines. I turned as hard as possible but the accident was unavoidable and my Dodge's passenger side front bumper made contact with the drivers side front door of the Chevrolet when the front end of their car was halfway across the southbound lane of traffic. Upon impact my airbags deployed. I did not however touch them other than my left arm being brushed up against it upon deployment. At which point the buckle of my seatbelt came undone and the tensioner did not retract. I then proceeded to go down a small ravine, through a culvert with my passenger side and through a wood fence at the bottom of the ravine. All while being unbelted due to the seatbelt failing. I was able to self extricate from my vehicle. I have been treated for back, neck, and hip pain and will be beginning rehabilitation. The truck was totaled and is available for inspection upon request.

Plastic headlight lenses have become cloudy in my 1998 Dodge Ram 3500, reducing the amount of light substantially. The dealer where it was purchased wants to charge me $186 to replace them. This is a safety issue. Dodge used inferior materials in the manufacture of the truck and they should replace them free of charge. They are familiar with the problem, so it is not an isolated incident.

Burning smell, blinking of headlights and then headlight failure while on interstate. Took to mechanic who found a recall and advised me to call a Dodge dealer. Dodge dealer said there was no recall for that particular vehicle. Called daimler/Chrysler assistance center who said there was no recall for that particular vehicle by VIN number. Mechanic in town will be fixing. Vehicle has trailer tow package.
High intensity discharge (hid) headlights. Hid's are often blinding both from oncoming traffic and from rear view mirrors. Combine this with the fact that many auto headlights are not properly adjusted and it gets even worse. Add SUV's, with their headlights already aimed so high, and hid's are especially bad. Please ban hid headlights.
