Our turbo resonator failed 4 times. Every time this happened we were driving on the highway at 60 mph and then suddenly no power and our vehicle went into limp mode and our maximum speed was 30 to 35 mph. Very very dangerous situation , when this happened to us the 4th time I researched this on line and it looks like late 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 models are all equipped with the 2. 7 liter 5 cylinder in line turbo diesel. The resonator is made of a plastic bonded together assembly and is not well suited for high heat, vibration and high pressure enviroment so it splits and puts the vehicle and occupants in great danger . According to the article I read this has happened to many sprint owners and that there is a easy fix I strongly feel there should be a recall on this part. I have reached out to the Dodge corporate office and to timothy kuniski by letter asking why there was not a recall on this resonator. Dates that resonator had to be replaced:6/30/2008, 6/20/2011, 7/15/14 10/8/2015. Please note that the first time we replaced the resonator our mileage was 37,722, the second time we replaced the resonator our mileage was 60,433, the third time mileage was 93,424 and the fourth time was 97,267.

On more than 1 occasion, my vehicle died out while traveling on expressways. In all instances, the engine stopped working. Fortunately nobody was injured. The vehicle needs an engine replacement again and has less than 69,000 miles on it.
I own a 2006 Dodge Sprinter (it's actually a winnebago view motor home mounted on the Dodge Sprinter (mercedes Sprinter) chassis. The Sprinter has a plastic part known as a turbo resonator to dampen the whine of the turbocharger. This part has failed three times in a little over 20,000 miles. I'm now parked and waiting for a replacement part so that I can continue driving home from a vacation. I've decided to try to replace the part myself, rather than drive with limited power and speed to a Dodge Sprinter dealer about 100 miles away. Not all Dodge dealers service Sprinters. The part has always been replaced under warranty. But to my knowledge Dodge and mercedes have not corrected the weakness in this part. It fails unpredictably. When this happens, there's an immediate loss of power and speed. This would be extremely dangerous on an interstate highway. Leaving jekyll island, GA. , on Monday, I had to climb a steep grade to cross a bridge. I could only drive 30 mph. On flat highway, I could only run 50 to 60 mph on a highway with a posted speed of 65. From everything I read on Sprinter forums, this is a common problem that has been going on for years. Please insist that Dodge and mercedes correct this problem before lives are lost. Frankly, the problem is so commonly known among Sprinter owners, I'm surprised there already hasn't been a recall. The incident date is only the latest saga. I'm guessing that I've had other failures at about 10,000 miles, 15,000 miles and now about 23,000 miles.
Turbo charger resonator, boost hoses, intake air temp sensor clips, locking clamp at intake manifold for boost/charge air hose retainer. Failure of either one of these components (too often by my experience) will cause immediate power loss and deceleration causing an accident.
June 14, 2009 NHTSA: for the 4th time our winnebago Dodge Sprinter/RV has lost power due to parts failure [turbo resonators, sensors, and/or turbocharger]. Needless to say these failures took place while many miles from home and away from anyone who could help. When certain parts fail, the Sprinter is designed to enter a "limp home" mode at a greatly reduced speed, thus endangering us as we were traveling on busy highways, fearful we would be rear ended by a truck or other heavy vehicles. In addition to imperiling our lives, we have endured extra expense and great inconvenience for delayed and canceled trips resulting from these breakdowns. Judging from forums online recently, this is a problem that is quite common and daimler Chrysler is well aware of it, but, by inaction, has failed to remedy. Dealers replaced the parts with the same flimsy plastic defective parts, which is not satisfactory as they will inevitably fail again. A recall is certainly justified. Sudden slow down due to lost of power on winnebage view/Dodge Sprinter. This has happened four times resulting in hazard to other drivers from sudden reduction in speed with no brake lights. Three repairs made by dealers for same problem (turbin resonator) in 24,000 miles. The vehicle will continue to run but barely. The first incident was at 7,000 miles. The last at 24,000 miles.
