Tire Valve Problems of Dodge Sprinter

Mercedes benz Sprinter. Consumer writes in regards to tire valve stems safety recall. The consumer stated the manufacturer refused to honor the recall.

Accident waiting to happen. Winnebago industries markets the navion motor home and the user cannot easily and routinely check the air pressure in the dual rear tires because winnebago covered up the valve stems with wheel covers---to check pressure one must secure a variety of tools and remove the wheel covers to gain access. This is difficult and the result is that owners will not routinely check the air pressure to be assured of safe operation.

I have had 3 valve stem failures where the stem goes into the rim in approx 6 weeks of time resulting in flat tires. Last one was while parked but was rapid deflation told stems from the factory were not the correct stems. Replaced by the dealer for free all stems.

While parked in my driveway my 04 3500 Dodge Sprinter right rear outside tire suddenly deflated. The valve stem core had separated from the rubber, causing the tire to suddenly deflate. Dodge claims my truck is not covered under the valve stem recall. This is the 3rd. Valve stem to fail.

While parked in a store parking lot with tires inflated to 60 psi (max 65 psi) inside left rear tire on a 04 3500 Dodge Sprinter suddenly went flat, the valve stem core separated from the rubber causing the tire to lose air.

I own a 2004 Sprinter VIN # wd1pd443745xxxxxx with continental tires. I have had 3 valve stems separate with the core coming completely out with less than 40,000 miles. When I had the others (3 plus the spare) replaced 2 of them also came apart.

While parked in my driveway tires inflated to 60 psi maximum 65 psi, left front tire suddenly deflated. The valve stem core separated from the rubber causing the tire to deflate. The valve stem was replaced. This is on a 04 3500 Dodge Sprinter and is not covered under the valve stem recall according to Dodge.

Dt contact's vehicle lost two back tires because of the tire stems. This is a dually vehicle. The rear inner tires blew out. The dealer can not get replacement tires. The dealer did an examination of the tires, and they determined that the valve stems split open. Had all six valve stems replaced. The tires are serviced regularly, and the recommended pressure is 60 lbs.

Recall campaign 04v600000 concerning tire valve. While driving 60 mph the vehicle swayed severely across the road. Consumer was able to pull the vehicle off the main road, and noticed the right rear tire was flat. Then, consumer changed the tire, and drove the vehicle to his brother in law's home. He inflated the tire with air, and noticed air leaking from the valve stem. Consumer was unable to get the other three tires repaired under this recall.

Tire valves suddenly allow air to escape from wheel, a collision could have easily occurred. Found that the valve was faulty, and failed due to high temperatures generated by disc brakes. Pe04066_cat.

While stopping for a red light consumer heard a loud noise. Cfonsumer got out of vehicle and noticed that tire flat. Aaa was called, who indicated that the valve stem blew out. The next day while the vehicle was sitting in the driveway the valve stem blew out again at another another tire. Pe04066_cat.

I have a 2003 freightliner Sprinter van, made by mercedes, and while on a trip I noticed a low tire and when I attempted to add air the valve stem threaded brass part separated from the neoprene. I took it to a tire place and had the valve stem replaced. About a week later, on the trip back to florida, I woke up in the morning to find another different tire flat with the valve stem delaminated and I changed it myself. When I got home, I contacted Dodge for help got a cold shoulder. I then had all 5 dismounted and metal stems installed. I have the failed stems if you would like to see them. I am a member of a chat group devoted to the Sprinter and several owners have reported the same problem. I think this is a chronic problem and could result in a highway accident with serious results.
